Originally, that guy from the King Kong Peter Jackson remake was rumored to be Spock. This anouncement came out of nowhere.
I was expecting it - he looks the part and he can act lol. I was excited to hear it at Con :) --

I remember way way back months ago an interview being posted on here with Zach Quinto, and him saying that Spock would be his dream role. I'm glad he got it, especialy beccause all the cast always talks about how great a guy he is.
Two things though:
First Though he looks the part, I don't know if he sounds the part, if that makes sense. His voice doesn't seem to be as Nemoy's. (or maybe I'm just use to his Sylar menacing voice. i dont know.)
And lastly I really hope that this doesn't affect his role on Heroes.
I don't think it'll affect his role on Heroes - at least I hope it doesn't but I mean look what happened when the guy that played Zach got the role of John Conner - he's not on Heroes anymore.
I agree about the sound of his voice - but at the same time - I think he could do it. He doesn't sound like Nemoy but he could def pull off a younger Nemoy I think. Despite us knowing what a younger Nemoy sounds like from the old ST shows and all....lol...

I heard that at the same panel where they announced Quinto as Spock and Nimoy returning, they also denied that Matt Damon is on as Kirk. I can't find anything definate from the internet coverage though.
Damon as Kirk and Quinto as Spock would be even more awesome than Just Quinto as Spock.
But who would play McCoy?
No - no one annouced Matt Damon as Kirk. It was only Spock that was announced. Matt is the fan favorite for Kirk though.

I heard that it was anounced that mat damon was not playing kirk, but I'm guessing that that was not correct information, and the role of kirk is still up in the air.

I'm so happy for Zac.I saw a pic of him as Spock,he's really looks like the real deal.I'm sure he will do a great job.
Congradulations to Zachary. I can definately see him as Spock. Though, I might be tempted to shout out during the movie "Look out behind you Kirk, Sylar is about to suck out your brains!"

I know! I've been hearing about this for a while. Anyone know when its supposed to come out?! I can't wait. There was no one more perfect to play spock! (not including Lenord!)

I know I am a little late on this thread, but in case you hadn't found out by now, the movie was originally slated for a December 25, 2008 release BUT for a while now they have pushed the movie back to May 8, 2009 because Paramount feels it can do better as a summer movie.
Hopefully more time will allow them to make a better movie? I hate that it's been pushed back but it seems a lot of movie release dates are playing musical chairs lately.

Well according to the writers (Orci and Kurtzman, who have done chat sessions over at Trekmovie.com), the film was finished on its original schedule. I think what they said was that more time would allow better rendered special effects or something like that.
