View Full Version : What's with the sudden Estrogen power on the show?

Let's see, we have:
1. Chloe
2. Lana
3. Lois
4. Kara
5. Occasional Martha Kent appearance
Men we have:
1. Lex
2. Lionel
Women posing as men, we have:
1. Clark
2. Jimmy
Now the point I'm getting at is, everyone of the female actors will have a positive relationship with eachother in one way or another. Jimmy has already had his character portrayed as being weak and making really dumb decisions, and being a lap dog for Chloe, Crimson breakup aside. Lionel will have almost nothing to do with Clark, as Clark doesn't like him, Lex is a given. Ever since Pete left, Clark has become more and more weak and perhaps even feminin in his actions. This season, he's got 4-5 women to confide in, and 1 male that unless he proves otherwise, isn't much more than comic relief. Clark needs an actual male friend to be able to talk to, and if Jimmy becomes that, it'll be doing a near 180 from last season and the way Jimmy acts in the mythos.
I know the actors balance out for male/female, but the interactions don't, and that bothers me to see the main actor have no real Male influences/confidents.

you know you forgot about the new daily planet chief,, he`s a male. as is martian manhunter and all the justice league members.

Will the Justice league be making recurring appearances or just 1 or 2, and how much bearing really, will this new chief have on clark? MM probably will only be in a few episodes as well.
Main character wise, he's screwed. Especially considering all these characters will still be interacting with the other characters quite a bit, especially with the JL and Kara.

I'd say that Lois and Chloe are kinda masculine in the same way that you say Clark and Jimmy and kinda feminine (though I don't agree with Clark being girly).

Good thread. I don't agree that Clark acts feminine (although I can see why when ppl bring up Lana).
Now if you want a feminine character you hit the nail on the head with Jimmy. Nice guy, but the way he acts around Chloe is truly pathetic. At least Pete was a regular GUY and was someone Clark had bonded with and hung out with. He has nobody like that right now.

Well I see Clark as femenin because he likes to sit there and sulk about things until he gets kicked in the ass to do something about it. Not to mention he's always surrounded by girls, and even at times when he seems like he's over Lana, he still can't get a girl, with the exception of Alicia.
I mean the guy doesn't even TAKE interest in women, it's like the guy in that's always around women, that they love hanging out with, but for some reason doesn't have a girlfriend. Not to mention when he likes a girl, he doesn't have the nuts to do what he wants, and instead turns into the creepy stalker that only writers could make a girl like.
He looks like a man, he sounds like a man, he acts like a girl. I mean you know you could see him say "No don't do that Chloe, you'll chip a nail! Here I'll do it for you." Even though you could see Jimmy do that too, his high voice, shorter/smaller build just emphasises the Femeninity in his character.
After all, if Clark didn't save anyone and was the way he is in the show, we'd all think that aside from his obsession with Lana Lang, he'd have to gay by now.
Oh and I'm somewhat generalizing with the word Femenine since it's keeping me from using other words I want to use that begin with F to describe him :D

The reason is simple...more females for more male viewership!!!

I see the point that at this time in clarks life he does need a male confidant, influence, or role model. I think Jor-El should be worked in hear for that at some point, but it would be nice for him to at least have a male friend, like Pete.

I thought Oliver Queen served as a good male friend for Clark last season. He'll be back too for season 7 and plus we're getting DEAN freakin' CAIN.

Maybe the circumcisions became accidental castrations???

I see Olllie as more a competitor for clark at this point, and don't know if dean will be playing a role that could be considered a friend or not.

If a guy has feelings for someone, he's not a man..?

oh boy... I'm surprised this hasn't fully devolved into an exploration on masculinity.
I think the point that's trying to be made is, clark needs to be more proactive and have more male interactions, since we learn alot about being guys from interacting with other guys. Not the only way to learn it but still an effective one.
I know Ollie would've been the perfect male role model for Clark at this point in his life, cause he's everything we the viewers (and hopefully clark himself) know and want clark to be. He had the feel of an alpha male, without being too cocky about it. Something Clark could easily accomplish if he became more confident in his powers

And himself. Well put, by the way. Not cocky, not an alpha male by any means, but able to stand up for what he knows is right no matter what that means for his life. He needs to learn to trust his instincts, and to act on them. The only way I feel he would do that is if
A: He is around, and interacting/learning from others who do that (Ollie), or
B: He has a mentor of some sort that would teach him to be this way. (Jor-El)
The time for feeling that things need to be a certain way, and being to scared to act on that are over. It's time to take hold of the rains, and do something about it.

haha! this is a gd thread...althou I dnt agree that Clark is a girl
i do believe he can be a bit 'sensitive' in his actions. in fact come to think of it so is Jimmy. :)
Basically I do believe Clark needs some male friends NOT drop in once a season male acquaintainces (sorry for spellin) which is really what the justice league are to him, bring back his only proper male friend Pete!!

Really? I thought Oliver was the definition of cocky.
Besides, Clark had his dad, Pete, Lionel and Lex. It hasn't been too long that he's been without his dad.
I don't think the point trying to be made was that Clark doesn't have enough male interaction. I think the point the OP was trying to make was that he shows his emotions, and that makes him "girly".
I don't know for sure though, that's why I asked.

In short the original point wasn't about clark showing emotion, but rather drowning himself in emotion instead of taking action, and his inability to deal or cope with things *cough Lana*.
I mean the whole in-love thing is now obsessed-with. IMO in real life that kind of mentality leads to creeper status with nice restraining orders.

Jimmy would seem to be a more new-age-sensitive type guy, more like what would pass for a "typical" Metropolis metrosexual??
Lex was the ruling metrosexual until he reignited the whole 33.1, army of conquest project ... which was, essentially Lex giving the appearance of casting off his metrosexual preference for high-thread-count Egyptian cotton shirts and declaring to the world: "I am a real man" -- without actually flexing his biceps and subscribing to the latest WWE pay-per-view.
All of that was unwoven in the S7 premiere with three words: "... her soft skin." What happened to pontificating about wanting it all like Alexander the Great, Julius Caesar and other men of greatness? Make some space on that metrosexual bench, Jimmy and Ollie Queen, because Lex is back!
"Women posing to be men." LOL! It's not that Lex doesn't deserve a stint in that category -- since both Lex and Clark have had their moments throughout the series. Some of their spats could just as well have been lifted from a script of Desperate Housewives.
Wouldn't Clark fit the 'neuter' category, all the "weaknesses" of both genders and none of their strengths? Chloe may well be Clark's Brain, but does she have to wear the pants in the partnership, too?!
