Favorite Anvils

My favorite thing about Smallville is the the foreshadowing we get now and again, and the little ironies. Like when Lex tells Clark, "Our friendship will be the stuff of legends".

Which anvils are your favorite?

There hasn't been much foreshadowing at all about Clark and Lois being in love. I can only remember one time, after Lana and Clark broke up, Martha said to Clark "Maybe she's not the one for you. There's someone out there for you" and Lois showed up.

I like the Lex/Clark friendship stuff. (well, that was mostly in the beginning of the series)

and for the Anvils...I love all the anvils dropped in Chlois.

The Clois anvils are actually my least favorite. There's so many of them it's irritating. My favorite ones were the Justice League/Clark is Superman anvils. :)

I like the foreshadowing of Clark & Lex's future as enemies. That last line from Hug was a great one.

Yes! One of my favourite final scenes of the series. I'm currently reading Lex Luthor: Man of Steel by Brian Azzarello and I love that idea of Lex's role being to keep Superman in check.
I also like the scene in Stray where Lex and Ryan discuss comics and Lex tells him that his favourite character used to be best friends with the supervillain. Particularly in the early seasons these types of scenes really highlight how far Lex is going to fall. It suggests that deep down Lex would be a great ally of Superman's, if Clark had been prepared to trust in him and share his secret.

I also love all the red cape references, like that kid who sees everyones death only saw a red cape for Clark.

And don't forget Clark being wrapped in a red towel after saving Lex in the pilot episode. Interestingly, in light of what I've posted above, Lex is also wrapped in a red towel.

One of my favorite "Clois" references was a year or two ago, and I don't remember which episode. Anyways, Lois says to somebody, "With my luck, I'd wind up sitting across the desk from the most bumbling reporter on the masthead." :lol:

I also liked the "piggy bank / Harley" exchange between the two from "Oracle", and their final moment in Clark's loft from "Aqua" was a great moment, too. Jimmy and Chloe's exchange about them in "Crimson" was great as well ("...they have chemistry...so do nitroglycerin and peroxide...") :lol:

I don't think you can beat "Our friendship will be the stuff of legends." Considering it was probably the purest time of their friendship composed against their future, you could not get a more contrasting reference.


Not to mention the end of Talisman with Lex saying how Sigeeth is the real hero.

Can we really consider this foreshadowing since Sigeeth is not the hero? I know one thing: It was probably the first really chilling look into Superman's arch enemy Lex Luthor

Although I am getting tired of the constant red, yellow, and blue barrage of imagery and the subtle design references of the S symbol. There becomes a point where it almost becomes a joke beyond foreshadowing.

i love the line in the very first episode pilot season 1 said by lex to clark "do you belive a man can fly clark"to which clark replies "people cant fly lex" clasic so ironic that lex luther should ask that question to his future nemesis who will soon sore trough the sky
