View Full Version : Who is the best match for Harry?

I've reread all the HP books this summer to get ready for number seven and I've been thinking a lot about the characters dynamics and who really is the best romantic match for Harry.

There is no chemistry at all between Hermione and Ron. I have no idea what she sees in him. She also admits herself that she doesn't have a lot in common with Krum (though he is cute and famous and rich).

It seems to me that Ginny's character was written in book six just to be a match for Harry. We haven’t seen much of Ginny and her development for the first 6 books (even in book 2 we don't get to see much of her personality because she is too busy being possessed) and then suddenly in book six Ginny emerges as popular, beautiful and confident. It was as if JK R. decided she wanted a girlfriend for Harry and rewrote Ginny into someone Harry would go for.

I'm not convinced that Ginny is the right girl for Harry. Harry is impulsive and has a Hero Complex. Ginny is high spirited and a risk taker (that is why she is such a good quidich seeker). I think Harry and Ginny together is a dangerous combination.

To me, Harry and Hermione make the best pair. She is the Super Ego to Harry's ID. She is the brains and he is the guts. She would keep him in check and he would help her live life. Harry is someone who Hermione could respect and vice-versa. Harry and Hermione already have a long established friendship and a high level of trust. They already have shown many signs that they could possibly be more that just friends.

So in book seven I'm cheering for Ron's death and a happily ever after for Harry and Hermione.

What do you think?

As long as Ginny dies I don't care who he ends up with. Seriously, she is just shoved down oour throats the whole sixth book. If Harry ended up with Parvati or Luna I wouldn't have a problem since he has interacted with them more than he has with Ginny. Also, Ginny only sees Harry as The-Boy-Who-Lived, not 'just Harry'. She has had a crush on him since before she knew him.

I enjoy Ginny with Harry but she did kind of come out of nowhere in book sixs and became like a leading match so it'd probably be better if Harry found someone that wasn't so obvious for him.

I think that's my biggest problem is that Ginny suddenly came into the forefront and it became so obvious. I'd rather him with anybody else than Ginny. Plus she's been like a sister to him up until now (in my eyes anyway) that it was weird when they started dating.

I have to say I love Hermione and Ron and I think there is a lot of chemistry that has been building up in the books and the help of the movies.

I do agree about Ginny’s character that her character in book six seems to be written just to match Harry. I know that Ginny has had a crush on Harry since book 2 but where did Harry’s attraction come from. His hormones. I also feel that Ginny is kind of shoved down our throats and that we should like her. I really did try and like her but I couldn’t because I found he quite annoying like Lana. I think it is that she can do no wrong. She is quite snarky and says some hurtful things to people but its okay because it’s Ginny.

If you don't count the books, but just go by the movie, Luna has freakishly good chemistry with Harry in the 5th one. But in the books, Ginny, obviously. Although Harry and Hermione would've been interesting.

Yeah I Agree. After HP5 the movie. I can't see Hermione and Harry Potter though.

Definitely Luna and Harry

OK - I've read book 7 and there are some good Harmony scenes. But I don't want to spoil it for you. Let’s just say that being a Harmony Fan is a bit like being a Chlark'er.

Harry and Hermoine doesnt work for me at all because it's always been pretty clear than Hermoine and Ron had the actual chemistry.

I believe Ginny is and has always been the perfect match for Harry, for one special reason. By being with Ginny, Harry is family to the only family that treated him as such. The Weaselys.

If there was anyone other than Ginny I would like to see end up with, it would probably be Luna.

I just haven’t ever seen any chemistry with Ron other than the narrator basically telling us that it is so. That does change with Deathly Hallows - Ron grows up a bit and is a better match for Hermione. So it is at least believable now.

I like Harry just fine with Ginny, it works, in an odd sort of way. And Hermione and Ron are perfect for each other, they're what couples are really like. They start out with nothing in common, some of them even hate each other for a while, but something just clicks that makes them work. That's what life's like, you don't always meet the person that shares your interests and seems like a "perfect fit". You just meet the person you fall for and it eventually either clicks or doesn't.

When I first started reading the books, I thought Harry and Hermione would make the best pair, but obviously that's not going to happen... Oh well.

I liked your comment.

As far as real life goes - the chances of you meeting someone in your teenage years and then making a happy life with them is small. I know a few people who have done it successfully but not many. The divorce rate for teenage couples who eventually marry is some amazingly high number. So I'm glad our HP4 made it work and now 19 years they all are still happy.

Now that the HP story is at an end, I'm glad JKR gave us a happy ending. I hope we SV fans are as lucky.

--- a few spoilers! Warning!---

Well Ginny... became magic perfect!Ginny in book 6. And was barely in the book in 7. Not there when everything was happening.

I like Harry/Hermione (which they had a lot of...)

And Luna/Ron.

In my mind- Luna is totally the headmaster of Hogwarts in the epilogue! She's like Dumbledore but a little less "Here, I will sacrifice you for the greater good, are you okay with that?"

So true - especially in the first 4 movies. I just rewatched PoA and I never noticed before but H/H held hands like half of the movie. How many 13 year old boy/girl friends (not romantic) hold hands that you know of? They really backed away from that in OotP. In fact, I don't think Hermione touched Harry even once. Though in the books H/H continue to have a very touchy type friendship till the end. I'm excited to see how they handle the next two movies. I understand that the same director that did OotP will also do the next movie. That is unfortunate.

Lol, I saw a ton of it in OOTP.

they only brought up the Hermione/Harry hug about 1000 times. lol. Harry even brought it up to make himself feel better.

She also held his hand after "I must not tell lies"

And there was a slow motion moment, where she helped him out and he was hurt...

lol, and... the laugh and her saying quickly, "Harry is a good kisser!" and the awkward laughter.

But in the book, she'd crashed his date with Cho...

Oops... sorry for the long list everyone

You must have pay attention better than me. I had forgotten those things.

But you have to admit, in OotP it seemed as if the director intentionally made all these Hermione/Ron shots as if he were shoving their relationship down our throats. It was as if the director said, “You two stand over there close together - Harry you always stand over here away from them - now stay that way for every shot.”

Oh and how did you like Ginny’s two one word lines? I guess Harry/Ginny fans will have to wait for the next one. Though again, there were lots of shots with Harry and Ginny in the back ground right behind him.

She did get to be semi-jealous in one shot, when he was off to go with Cho Chang- lol, that's a shot Emma checked Dan out...

But, I dunno. Harry and Hermione stood next to each other the whole time in most shots...

Ginny doesn't get too much screen time, but she's there in book 6.

Lol! I'm so dorky for being able to break it down this much! I must be a fan...

lol it's wierd though because in the OOTP ginny's role in the book, she was more involved but in the film she is mostly in the background but then in the next film harry just suddenly starts like to notice her it just seems a little strange... but hey they can't fit everything in :p
