I just can't vote for Smallville. Their plan to bring in Kara in season 7 when everything pointed towards Clark getting his training finally done ruined everything. The show also has way too much angst and too many 'ships. It makes Clark look bad and it mocks Superman by showing that he is a product of other heroes' influence rather than just using the guidance of his adoptive & biological parents to become DC's greatest hero. Having Kara or any other flying hero teach Clark how to fly is an embarassment that I will never forgive this show for. That is something Clark should learn on his own (not even Jor-El should teach him since Clark is already not too far from flying based on what we saw in several episodes). The inability of Al & Miles to satisfy longtime fans (like me) and put the spotlight on what should be the focus of the show (Clark becoming the hero & reporter) has caused me great disappointment in this show. Also the inability to show that Clark/Superman & Lex become enemies over something important (instead of a love interest like Lana) clearly points out at how they missed on a great opportunity and one of the main things that kept me watching since the beginning. Had the reigns of this show been controlled by Jeph Loeb, I would have been pretty sure we would have seen some spectacular stuff. Instead we get pointless time rewinds (Reckoning), mind swipes, the removal of loved & important characters (Johnathan Kent), the inability to bring back characters who appear in Clark's future (Pete), and the show's focus going on all other characters & heroes other than the one the show is based on.

I know many will disagree with me but that's just my opinion. I really didn't have a single negative thing to say about this show during its first 3 years. I thought it was on the right track and was very excited to how things would end up. But the following season finally proved that they were running out of ideas. The next one after that started great but tanked badly thanks to the stubbornness of Al/Miles by insisting to give something the fans didn't want & omitting the stuff that made the first half of the season a smash. The season after that showed improvement in some departments, but the lack of spotlight on Clark really hurt many episodes. The biggest shame is that the direction Phantom left things in was perfect for a spectacular season 7 that would focus mainly on Clark.

Superman: The Animated Series, Justice League, and Justice League Unlimited.

Smallville is good, but not great. Al/Miles always seem to focus less on Clark each season even though he's about to become Superman. I also detest the fact tht he still can't fly even though everyone else practically can.

Pfft - the guy just stated his opinion. Tell me you wouldn't be a little worried if China mentioned off-hand, "Hey, we just might invade you guys. We have the power." Nothing concrete - just a subtle threat there.

Anyway -

Lois & Clark. Best interpretation of the Superman legend I've ever seen. The first season, anyway.

For a time, I could at least respect and take you seriously. But you just compared invasion and a TV show. Yep, I think that's about enough of even paying attention to anything you have to say. Adios.

Well MD, what can I say? I have been disappointed too many times. Last time TPTB were as excited as this to bring on a new character was season 4 with Lois and we saw how many fillers we got from that just so they can have clois episodes. Now they will do the same with Kara for the clara/klark (whatever you wanna call it). When it comes down to bringing in other superheroes for more than half a season's worth, I know the character who will have to suffer and its the same one who's done so for seasons 4 & 6 and the 2nd half of 5--Clark.

Everything that happened up until the very end of season 6 pointed out that Clark will train in season 7. Heck, Clark said it with his own mouth in Fallout. And now they're going to delay it more? Why, so they can shove Kara down our throats and hope for an 8th season? I don't wanna hear that the training would be boring or that right after the training ends he will have to become Superman. I thought of at least 3 components his training can & should consist of that would make it very interesting. And saying that Clark will get the idea to make a red & blue suit with a red & yellow S in a diamond and call himself Superman the second his training is done is very illogical. What sense of logic would one have to use to come to that? Unless Jor-El is the one who decides Clark's superhero identity, which would be the lamest thing they could do, not to mention more sand kicked in the face of a loved iconic hero.

They possibly can make a season with Kara interesting. But there are many who like me are fed up with broken promises and no payoff. After Lexana I expected that the spotlight would finally be on Clark. In a show about Superman, the last 3 seasons focused on so many pointless things rather than Clark becoming Superman and Clark becoming enemies with Lex on a basis of morals rather than a stolen girlfriend.

You might not think that Clark getting flying lessons from Kara, Hawkman, Green Lantern, Martian Manhunter, etc. is a huge slap to Superman's face but there are many who do. The classic Superman was never so incompetent that he needed so much influence by others to perform his basic abilities. And this is what drives me nuts about this. I'm tired of Clark the babysitter. We already saw this in Run & Fragile. It's time for him to grow the hell up. Raya yelled at him for not training and now he will delay that further. At least Raya was only around for 2 episodes and didn't steal his thunder. But Kara will. They will waste valuable money on the budget for her flying that could be better spent on Clark flying and other cool parts of his training.

It was abstract, I know. But for some of us, watching a T.V. show is akin to an institution. I know I moved everything so that I had nothing to do on Tuesdays (and later Wednesday, and then Thursdays) so that I could watch Smallville uninterrupted. You come to expect a level of quality from it. So when you hear from the producers' mouth that they're going to try something, you want to be as open-minded as possible.

But when said show's producer has said lots of things and they all (for me) end up further tearing up the mythos, and resulting in poor quality television, what else is "Hey! We're going to bring in Supergirl!" supposed to sound like? Here's a hint: Ka-lunk! That would be a nail going into a coffin.

And Midgard, I've come to accept and respect your opinions even though we frequently disagree, but this ain't the first time you call someone out on being negative towards something that we haven't seen yet. I understand your reasoning that it's futile to prematurely judge something based on nothing, but let's face it - when there's precedent, like the past two or three or four seasons being unsatisfactory to someone, what are the odds they're going to like the next one, when it's the same people making it and the person is still upset about the actions already taken? And while some might see Kara's introduction as a fountain of new possibilities, others (including myself) just shake their head and go, "Yeahhh... if this WASN'T a show supposedly about Clark Kent BEFORE he became Superman."

Still, xrayvision laid out his own reasons for disliking the next season better than I can (though the way I see it, it's a show being invaded by bad ideas), so there it is.

Ok you have your opinion, you don't like SV anymore, stop watching, end of the story. Keeping whining about it is not going to change anything, so it doesn't make any sense to repeat the same arguments, just my opinion.

I respect your opinion, but I disagree with it. I have the right to say what I wish about the show, and I choose to use that right. Hey - at least I don't go randomly into the Smallville-dedicated part of the forums where EVERYONE loves the show and yell out, "This sHOw SUx!" Outside those parts, the show's fair game. Know what other show sucks now? The Simpsons. The latest season was horrible.

But I do regret that I've helped veer this thread off-topic. So back on-topic:

S:TAS and Lois & Clark Season One are the best portrayals of Modern Superman.

During seasons 1 and 2, I would have said Smallville is the best Superman show ever. But by now, aside from everything with the Justice characters, the show is ridiclous. I really can't say Smallville is the best Superman show anymore.

The show is just becoming an insult comic fans, and the producers feel people just keep watching no matter what because either they'll watch anything with that glamorous cast, or they're still hooked from season 1 and 2.
