DC Comics, Superman, no doubts.
Marvel... I don't have a favorite hero. All of them have too much internal conflicts or are simply lame.

DC: Superman
Marvel: Wolverine
I always thought it would be cool to see a Superman v.s. Wolverine crossover comic. It would be cool to see if Supe's invulnerability could withstand Wolverine's adamantium claws. And it would be cool to see if Wolverine's healing factor could withstand attacks from Superman.

So Wait You Basically say the best DC hero is Superman and yet say marvel has no good ones because all their characters have the faults superman has?
Superman is a goody toe shoe b oyscout thats been bland for years. I like smallville because its so far from how bad superman really is.
Though most of DC's Best Characters are female so if we are just picking best male ones I have to go with someone like Roy Harper or Wildcat.
If we are allowed to say best including males and females
DC =Huntress, Starfire or Wonder Girl.
Marvel: Spider-man(hands down the best in both), Gambit(second best male hero ever) and Black Cat female wise.

Uh, no?
The current comics Superman is FAR from bland. And I'm not talking only about Superman, I'm talking about the majority of DC heroes, they are heroes because they want to be heroes. Marvel lost its way even before the House of M. Marvel became too "emo" for me.

Marvel: Throw up between Spidey, The Hulk, and the Silver Surfer.
I'm more familiar with DC, though. I can't get into Marvel that much....just doesn't appeal to my interests, I guess. Overall-Superman, can anyone take him? Any other heroes?

Same here. But I like the characters from the comics not the movies. It's a disgrace what Spider-Man 3 did to the character of Spider-Man & the story of his origin. The comics Batman beats the Bale movie Batman any day of the week. My favorite days of Batman was when he had to deal with Jason Todd as Robin. Those were very interesting stories. Especially that Batman issue (either 424 or 425, I forgot) where some criminal falls off a building and Batman doesn't know if he fell or was pushed by JT.

What did Spider-Man 3 do to the charactcer of Spider-Man and the story of his origin? Did the first 2 Spider-Man movies mess anything up?

Kind of. Spider-Man is not supposed to be a mutant. In the early 90's they well advertised that fact on the cover of many issues of Amazing Spider-Man. In the first movie, it is shown that the web he shoots comes out of his own skin and that his DNA was altered after being bitten by the radioactive spider. In the comics he has web shooters that he invents. The web shooters get depleted & eventually run out of web. He refills them when he notices the web fluid is running low. It was never revealed how long a piece of web that he shoots lasts, but in the comics, after an hour it starts breaking down and evaporates.
In the 2nd movie, he loses his powers because he doesn't want to be Spider-Man anymore. That's nonsense in the comics. His will doesn't give him his powers. The only way I can remember him losing his powers was in Amazing Spider-Man 341 where he wants to stop putting his life in danger and goes to a doctor who has a machine that strips his powers. It later turns out that the doctor is really the Chameleon.
http://www.coverbrowser.com/image/amazing-spider-man/341-1.jpg
The origin in the first movie was different than the comics where Uncle Ben is shot at home. I really don't mind the way the movie did it though. But in Spider-Man 3, it was revealed that the Sandman shot him, which is completely false. The whole point to his origin was to teach Peter that with great power comes great responsibility and by not stopping the burglar, his lack of responsibility cost Uncle Ben's life. In Spider-Man 3, it was revealed that whether or not he stopped the burglar didn't matter because the Sandman killed his uncle. That takes all the responsibility away.
The movie also way overdid the angst. In the comics he was never that crazy about Mary Jane in his youth. It wasn't until college that he met his first girlfriend, Gwen Stacy. The movie messed that up since he was supposed to be with her before MJ. In the 1st movie, the scene at the Queensboro Bridge was similar to Gwen Stacy's death in the comics where Green Goblin took her to the tower of the Brooklyn Bridge and dropped her. Spider-Man snagged her with his web but she died from the abrupt stop that broke her neck. This is another scene that although not exactly like the comics can still be appreciated by a fan of the comics like me.
One of the worst things was what they did with the symbiote in the 3rd movie. I wasn't expecting an origin like the comics where the heroes & villians of the Marvel Universe get transported to a far away planet called the Battleworld by the Beyonder (a cosmic being) so they could fight in a war and where Spider-Man's costume gets ripped. In the comics he heard that another hero (I think it was Thor) repaired his suit by using a machine. When he went to look for that machine he found one that he thought was the one. But it was the wrong one and a black ball popped out that covered him. I wasn't expecting this to happen in the movie, but something better than a meteor could have been done. My friend told me that the Spider-Man cartoon in the 90's had the symbiote coming from space when John Jameson came home.
Other symbiote problems:
1. The symbiote is not supposed to make him evil. What it does do is drain him of his energy which makes him tired in the comics.
2. The symbiote doesn't just lie in a chest like he kept it in the movie. In the comics it rests on a chair and when he goes to sleep it flows like a living being on the floor & covers him and takes him webswinging outside while he's sleeping so that he doesn't know a damn thing about it. I would loved to have seen this in the movie. Peter the next day was usually very late to work and was yawning like crazy.
3. The symbiote is not a black version of the red & blue suit like it was in the movie. The design was totally off. It's not supposed to have the web pattern on the mask & boots and the spider on his chest is supposed to be white & much bigger/different. Here are some good pics of it:
http://www.samruby.com/Series/SecretWars/Large/MarvelSuperHeroesSecretWars08.jpg
http://www.samruby.com/AmazingSpider-ManU/Large/AmazingSpider-Man539.jpg
http://www.samruby.com/AmazingSpider-ManK/Large/AmazingSpider-Man252.jpg
http://www.samruby.com/SpidA/Large/Spider-Man013.jpg
4. The symbiote is supposed to be smart. In the comics (Spectacular Spider-Man #100 & Web of Spider-Man #1) it disguises itself as the red & blue suit to trick Peter to wear it. He realizes that it is on him and tries to get help while a group of guys who created suits similar to the Vulture's calling themselves the Vulturions attack him. He finds a church and makes his way there and uses the bells to remove the suit from him since sound waves & fire are the 2 things that hurt the symbiote. The movie did something like this with the church. They sped up the time in which Brock found the suit, which is acceptable since they only have a few hours for the movie.
Also Eddie Brock was supposed to work for the Daily Globe, not the Daily Bugle. In the comics he was a journalist who wrote a story on a serial killer named the Sin Eater. His article was about how a mentally ill guy named Emil Gregg told him that he is the Sin Eater. After it gets published, Spider-Man finds the real Sin Eater and brings him in. Eddie Brock becomes a laughing stock and is fired. I understand how the movie couldn't do all that, but I don't like how they made Peter purposely cost Eddie his job. In the comics Eddie losing his job was unintentional since Spider-Man was just doing his job & stopping a serial killer. In the movie he vengefully exposed Eddie.
Also, Aunt May is not supposed to move out of her home. She's supposed to turn it into a senior boarding house where people pay her rent to stay there.
And Harry Osborne is supposed to become the 2nd Green Goblin. He was a good guy as the Goblin since he was hypnotized to forget that his father was the original Goblin. Eventually, he finds out what happened and puts Peter & MJ through living hell, not knowing if or when he will expose Pete's secret. He becomes very formidable and dies saving Peter & MJ though when he dies he still has vengeful thoughts about Peter.

Just playing Devil's Advocate part here. All Spiderman movie franchise is based on the Ultimate Spiderman comics, not the original ones. Also, Sam Raimi this outplayed by the studios this time and was forced to use Venom. :\

I gave up on Spider-Man comics around the time they brought back the Peter Parker clone. I also got sick of their cheap tricks like bringing back Norman Osborne and retconning who the 1st Hobgoblin was. I don't buy their BS excuses. For me, Ned Leeds will always be the first Hobgoblin. That Kingsley guy was murdered by the Rose's men in an issue I have.
I think this latest movie had too many villians. They should have stuck to only Sandman or only Venom and built up Harry as the next villian. If there is a 4th movie, I want Hobgoblin to be the enemy. That room Harry found behind the mirror in Spider-Man 2 reminded me a lot of the Norman's Green Goblin lairs Ned Leeds found before he created the Hobgoblin suit.

Thats like saying can anyone survive in outer space without a space suit. Not happening.
Just because he used his brain and found a weapon he could use doesn't make it any less of a victory.
