I can understand when a 12 year old-Smallville viewer knows so little about Superman that he thinks Lana will need to have a son named Ricky in this version of the story.
But the scary part is, Al & Miles know so little about Superman that they probably think the same thing! All they seem to know about Superman is based on those Christopher Reeve movies!

The movies came out before Smallville so Smallville should be faithful to the movies. They should have had Brad as Lanas first BF insteadof Whitney IMHO

Who's Ricky anyway :p

Look. Smallville has little to nothing to do with the christopher reeve movies. If it is all about what came out first then the movies from the 70's and 80's should have been totaly faithful to the comics. which they werent. I would not like it if Smallville had to be totaly faithful to some movie made 30 years ago! first of all, that was the 70's! SV is made in the millenium so it cant be in tune with the movie anyways. I would not want it to be cause that would mean that Clark has to one day fly around holding a bad joke making Richard Prior in his arms. And i dont want that. hahaha.
Oh, and Gypsies Princess, Ricky was Lana's young son in Superman 3, the crappy one with Richard Prior and the worst script ever made.

Well, while we're at it, why not make Lana the Insect Queen?

Yeah, but Superman 3 had a much better written Lana Lang than Smallville ever did. And it had IMHO the best fight out of any Superman movie, Clark Kent vs. Superman. I would love to see such a thing on Smallville between Clark & his Kal-El side.

hahahaha! Lana as a grasshopper! I love it!
Xrayvision, You like superman 3 overall?
Yea, the Clark vs. Red K superman was cool, but its not worth watching the whole script play out. Richard Prior acting like some computer genius was downright horrible and unconvincing. You can tell the guy was strung out on coke and uncertain of himself. Not to mention the cheesey "Lex Luthor" clone they brought in to play the "rich excintric evil guy". He even had a blonde bimbo that hung out all the time like Gene Hackman's character did. Oh, and the 'super computer' they made to defeat superman was just plain not good. The public let it be known that it sucked also. Thats why in Superman 4, they tried to go back to their roots by bringing back Lex Luthor and Lois Lane.

THE CHRISTOPHER REEVE MOVIES ARE NOT IN DIRECT CONTINUITY WITH SMALLVILLE! THE COMICS CAME LONG BEFORE THE MOVIES! DOES THAT MEAN EVERY LITTLE DETAIL OF THE MOVIES HAD TO BE RESTRICTED TO PERFECT CONTINUITY WITH THE COMICS???
THERE ARE DIFFERENT VERSIONS OF THE SUPERMAN STORY! WHY CAN’T YOU UNDERSTAND THAT?

Yeah, seriously! I mean, does this guy know that the 1950s George Reeves TV series came before the Christopher Reeve movies? Or does he know the Kirk Alyn serial films came before the TV series? Or does he know that comics came before the serial films? If all of these versions had 100% identical stories, then there’d be no point in watching any of them because we’d already know every detail!
Besides which, doesn’t he realize Smallville has already changed so much from the movies? Let me give you a short list of examples. In the Superman movies:
1. Lex never lived in Smallville.
2. Clark and Lex were never friends - in fact, they never knew each other.
3. Lois and Clark didn’t meet until Clark got a job at the Daily Planet.
4. Jimmy and Clark didn’t meet until Clark got a job at the Daily Planet.
5. Perry and Clark didn’t meet until Clark got a job at the Daily Planet.
6. There was no meteor shower that came to Earth with Kal-el’s rocket.
7. Kryptonite didn’t alter humans.
8. Metropolis wasn’t so close to Smallville.
9. Clark didn’t hear Jor-el’s voice until he went to the Fortress of Solitude.
10. Once Clark went to the Fortress of Solitude, he never left it until he was ready to become Superman.
11. Jonathan died before Clark discovered the Fortress of Solitude.
12. Jonathan died without ever knowing or hearing of the Luther family.
13. Zod was still in the Phantom Zone. He was not a “vessell.”
14. Clark didn’t fight any Phantom Zoners until after he became Superman.
15. Clark/Superman did not know Green Arrow, Impulse, Cyborg or Aquaman (or any other heroes) before or after he became Superman.
16. Clark found out about his Kryptonian roots from Jor-el directly.
17. Lana and Lex never knew each other - they were certainly never married!
That’s just the short list of what I can think of for now.
I’m not saying all these changes are a bad thing. Many of them are what make Smallville interesting: it’s a re-telling of a classic story, with twists to make it cool for a modern generation, and also unpredictable to everyone.

yea, on number 8, Metropolis in the Christopher Reeve movies was where New York is.
Kal26

I recently found that out, but had always thought that. I found a thing on wikipedia that said that metropolis was in the place of new york city, and that gotham was almost, or was visible from the outskirts of town. They were neighboring cities. It also said that on smallville metropolis was in Kansas.
All I know is that I want to go to the real metropolis. The first through the ninth of June they have superman days. It's like a huge festival dedicated to superman. I wanted to go this year but couldn't. My fiance and I are thinking of going for our honey moon. Hell, it even says something about superman on the cops badges.

Yeah, it's in Illinois. Erica Durance was supposed to be there this year, but she cancelled. Michael Rosembaum was there last year. I plan on going some time.

That looks sweet! Superman Celebration, I was close, kind of. It would have been great to meet Helen Slater, and MR the year before. I can't believe I've been alive this long, and haven't been yet. Something I'm going to have to fix!

Also, haven’t you noticed that the movies took place in the late 70s, and this show takes place in 2007…… There were no cell phones, or internet computers in the movies…… So how could this show take place before the movie? How could the show and movie be in direct continuity? Just think about it.

My thing is that smallville doesn't really follow the comics (where the true story comes from), so why should it follow the movies, especially the ones that didn't really follow the comics either? Each take on superman outside of the comics should be a version all it's own IMO. Or else you're just repeating the same thing over and over again. What's the point of that? If it really followed the story of superman in the comics, there would be no lex, lois, chloe, lionel, martha as a senator, pete moving away, FOTW, or anything else alone these lines. Lana would end up with Pete, get a divorce, and then run luthor corp. I don't want to see any of those things on smallville, and I certainly don't want to see them following the Reeve films. We've got enough of that going on right now IMO, and need smallville to be something fresh. I mean really, what is the point of writing superman, if you don't put your own spin on it? At some point we have to move forward.

I pretty much agree with everything you said…… Although I do think the twist on Bizarro was just too extreme (it wasn’t changing the comics, but rather probably making things up from scratch without looking at the comics)….. But for the most part, I agree with you.

I agree about bizarro. I like having him on the show, but really like the version that was done on the animated series. You know, a clone made by lex that degenerated so to speak. I don't like the version in the comics that has dna from the joker. So, I guess if smallville had to do it's own version, they should do something different from those two. Although I would much rather him be a clone made by lex, than a phantom.
