To me Terrance Stamp will always be remembered as general Zod, and I just think it sounds too wierd having him do the voice for Jor ell. Ithink they could have got someone who sounds similar to Brando to do it.
I'm not saying that he is not suited for the role of Jor Ell, its just whenever I hear his voice on the show I think of Zod from SM 2.
They could have got him to play Zod IMHO rather then have MR combine the two roles.

I like having Stamp as the voice of Jor-El, especially with his British accent. :D Just the way I like MR being Lex and Michael Ironside being Lex and General Lane on Smallville, and being the Flash and Darkseid on JLU:TAS and Superman: TAS respectively.

I think having TS as Jor-El was an inspired idea. It helped in the early seasons with the 'is he good/is he evil' thing and i don't know anyone else that could have done that.

Every time I hear Jor Els voice on SV, I think of Zod(stamp).

Terence Stamp was an inspired choice! He's probably only had half a page of dialogue to deliver over the 6 seasons but every line has been a pearler!! Not only does his voice have a fantastic quality but the sound guys add some decent effects to make it even more resonant.
As for associating his voice with that of General Zod from Superman II, I rather think that was the point - I'm with magoo on that one! ;)
"You will obey me Kal-el!"
"You will be reborn, my son."
I love the way he gets the last line of both S2 and S3. :p

Well I disagree with your idea that the actor should sound like Brando. Brando’s Jor-el was nothing like the Jor-el of the comics……. To me, Smallville should create it’s own identity as a live action version of the Superman comics - it should not be restricted to imitating a 30 year movie.
As for Stamp, he works fine as Jor-el for me. I know it’s the same actor as Zod, but I’m able to look at this Jor-el as his own character. No problem for me.

I think its a nifty little nod to the history of superman, kinda like have Anette O'toole playing Martha Kent which I like, but that aside I actually really like his voice acting for the role, I think he suits the character

I agree. Stamp's voice as Jor-El gave that very authoritative, dictatorial and manipulative sense which is very fitting for his portrayal in Smallville. He's not the benevolent Daddy Jor-El we all know from the movies and the mythos. But when he thanked Martha for raising Clark in Zod, it was also a very wonderful moment.

I didn't know it was him, but thought he was doing a great job. Now that I know, I like him even more.

Exactly! The connection with General Zod automatically makes us suspicious of this incarnation of Jor-el, something which was hinted at in Rosetta even before we heard him speak.
I also agree with ForzaItalia - Smallville is doing a fine job of creating its own identity for its characters. Why re-enact previous versions?

I love Terrance Stamp as Jor-el.
But the original superman films were before my time so Stamp is as much Chancellor Vellorum and sexy old guy from the Limey to me as he is General Zod. He's not stuck in that role to me as much. And he's got a great voice. Ah... I miss Jor-el.

How good is Terence Stamp in The Limey?! I love that film! Off topic I know but it needs saying! ;)
As for Chancellor Vellorum, I can't remember the film in which he plays that role?

I hate Brando. Except in On The Waterfront. And maybe Guys and Dolls.

Yes. The Limey was wonderful.
Chancellor Vellorum was in Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace. Natalie Portman's Character (Queen Amidala) was tricked into giving him a vote of no confidence. :(

Cheers! I thought it might be Star Wars related, but for the life of me I can't recall him being in it. It's been a while since I saw Episode I.

You sound a bit immature to me, what matters here is if Stamp is suited to be Jor-El or not, the answer is obvious, he has a wonderful powerful voice, a perfect Jor-El indeed.

I know I'm going to get it for this, but I actually like his voice better than brando's. He sounds stern, yet can sound soft, and always sounds intelligent. To me, brando sounded like brando. It was like he needed to pronounce things differently than eveyone else or something. I know, I'm just shooting off at the mouth here, but the whole kol-el thing has always bothered me. Oh yeah, and then there's kryptun. I'm sure at some point there would have been a robut as well. :rotfl:
