To answer the poll's question, my favorite season opener would hace to be "Bizarro," but from that last, I'll say it's between "Crusade" and "Zod".

Concerning all time favorite episodes, I've always loved "Red," "Exile," "Persona," and many other episodes.

I'm gonna jump waaaay into the seventh season and say "Wrath"
Lana has just gotten annoying at that point and i am really sick of this Clark, Lex, and Lana merry-go-round. They can only waist so many episodes on Lana's whining about how much Lex hurt her.
(This is the one i didn't like)
as for favorite opener...Arrival i think... its such a tough decision!!!
But probably Arrival because i LOVE Chloe and once Chloe knows Clarks secret the show is SO much mor fun! :)
as for favorite episode.... THERE IS NO WAY TO CHOOSE!!
Probably any episode that has a lot of Chloe and Clark interaction or Chloe getting rescued!
:)

"Heat" was also a favorite episode, it showed he had the same feelings that we all got, but his were more evident through him developing a new, awesome power (heat vision).

CRUSADEEEE!!!!!!! It's Lois Lane's debut, triumphal entrance in SV, shook Clark's world more than the meteor shower! CK: Wait?! Who are you? Lois, Lois Lane.

"Heat" was awesome if only for the humor of the teaser scene and how GAY the whole episode turned out to be. I'm not usually eyes-wide-open to the HoYay, but I saw it ALL OVER "Heat."

What's "gay" about a hot, female teacher turning on a teenaged boy? It's not like his heat vision went off for some dude.

I´ve tried to make a list of the best scenes of the series.I wanted to limit them to 1 per season what has been too difficult.I based this list on the best concordation of music (one of the reasons I started watching the show) , acting , photography and relevance in the plot.So there we go:

Season 1- Whitney´s father funeral (Eva Cassidy-"time after time")/End of Pilot (Lifehouse-"Everything")Clark dances with Lana, then realizes it´s not real and sees her arriving home.
-Note:Failed to choose only 1
Season 2-
-Note:Help!I can´t find a remarkable scene over others.Could you?.Comes to my mind the scene at the barn in "exodus" when Clark tells Lana that he has something to do before the wedding (Matthew good band-"Weapon")but I can´t say that it was the best scene of the entire season.
Season 3-Final scene in "Shattered" (Johnny Cash-"Hurt")Lex at the asylum and Lana at hospital.
Season 4-Clark and Lana dancing in "Spirit" (Lifehouse-"You and me")
Season 5-Johnathan Kent´s funeral in "Reckoning" (Peter Gabriel-"I grieve")
-Note:A lot of great scenes and songs in this season.
Season 6-Preview of "Promise"(Snow Patrol-"You could be happy")
Season 7-Final scene of "Bizarro" (Kelly Clarkson-"Sober")
Season 8-All between Chlolliver conversation and final credits (The Killers-"Good night , travel well"

As you can see , the most of them have not dialogue ,which makes acting very important. Also I tried to select scenes where some characters were implicated.

Not trying to criticise your choices (some of the are certainly amazing scenes), but I'm curious how objective you consider your own selection to be. I realise you don't have to be objective to select your favourite scenes, but your introduction suggests you were aiming for some measure of objectivity and yet it seems strange to me that a list of favourite scenes consists solely of 'cover-song scenes'.

Just wondering. :)

Yes , maybe you are right.I admit that one of the main reasons to watch the series for me was the music and I always liked the scenes were actors have to transmit emotions without words. In those scenes we usually get more information of the characters than in a dialogue.

Ooh, this thread looks fun (if not a little time-consuming):

Favorite Episode:
Season 1 - "Tempest" (followed by "Pilot," "Stray," "Hug," and "Leech")
Season 2 - "Rosetta" (along with "Exodus," "Fever," "Ryan," "Vortex," and "Insurgence")
Season 3 - "Exile" (plus "Covenant," "Shattered," "Delete," "Legacy," and "Perry")
Season 4 - "Commencement" (and "Pariah," "Blank," "Transference," and "Run")
Season 5 - "Vessel," hands down (with "Reckoning," "Lexmas," and "Arrival")
Season 6 - "Promise" (and also "Justice," "Progeny," "Zod," "Phantom," and "Labyrinth")
Season 7 - "Arctic" (with "Apocalypse," "Bizarro," and "Siren")
Season 8 (so far) - "Bride" (and "Identity," "Abyss," "Legion," "Odyssey," and "Infamous")

Least Favorite Episodes:
Season 1 - "Craving" (though "Reaper" isn't too far behind)
Season 2 - "Heat" (with "Visage" and "Redux" barely trailing)
Season 3 - "Resurrection," no doubt about it!
Season 4 - "Bound" (but "Facade" and "Ageless" are pretty much tied with it)
Season 5 - "Thirst" (and "Exposed" is right down there with it)
Season 6 - "Subterranean" (with "Wither," and "Rage" right behind)
Season 7 - "Wrath" (the first appearance of SuperLana -- need I say more?)
Season 8 - The jury's still out, but "Power" and "Requiem" are pretty good bets...

Favorite scenes:
Season 1 - Clark asking Chloe to the Spring Formal in "Obscura," and the whole dance scene in "Tempest" (right until that stupid teacher cut them off mid-near-kiss)
Season 2 - Chloe reading her letter to Clark in "Fever," Clark and Ryan in the hot air balloon in "Ryan," and Clark driving off toward Metropolis in "Exodus"
Season 3 - Almost the entirety of "Shattered," Chloe and Clark's reunification in "Delete," and the opening sequence of "Exile"
Season 4 - The meteor shower in "Commencement," Chloe's discovery of the secret in "Pariah," and Chloe's covering for Clark all through "Blank"
Season 5 - The Chlark kiss in "Vessel" is definitely #1, but much of "Lexmas" and "Reckoning" ranks right up there, and we can't forget the awesomeness that is the last thirty minutes of "Hidden"
Season 6 - The opening and closing segments of "Promise," plus the Justice League backed by the exploding 33.1 facility in "Justice"
Season 7 - Clark and Lex's final confrontation in "Arctic" is pretty awesome, no doubt
Season 8 - We'll have to wait and see!

Least Favorite Scenes:
Season 1 - Jody Melville sucking the fat off the deer, Tyler Randall turning the autopsy doctor to ashes
Season 2 - Almost the entirety of "Heat," Chrissy Parker sucking the life out of that poor guy in "Redux"
Season 3 - Clark cutting himself and pouring his blood into a jam jar in "Phoenix" was kind of gross for me, as was Jor-El's fling with Lana's great aunt in "Relic"
Season 4 - The krypto-plastic surgery stuff in "Facade" was bleagh!!!
Season 5 - The vampire sorority sisters snacking on the pizza delivery guy in "Thirst," hands down!
Season 6 - That one phantom who was ripping out people's spines... yuck times 1,000,000!
Season 7 - "Wrath" -- 'nuff said
Season 8 - Clark removes Chloe's memories of his abilities without her consent in "Abyss"

Best premiere : Crusade
Best finale : Exodus (Commencement is very good, but Exodus was more chaotic)

Episodes I Find Special : Noir, Labyrinth, Bloodline, Shattered, Pariah, Lexmas, Exile
Those are probably my favorite episodes, although I might be forgetting some from the earlier seasons. I know I really liked S3...

I am a DIE HARD Smallville fan. I have watched every episode more than once. When my wife and I were dating, I wouldn't even take her phone calls during the hour Smallville was on.

It sucks to say this... but I just want to see if I'm alone here...

DOES SMALLVILLE NOT HAVE THE ABSOLUTE WORST PREMIERES AND FINALES?!?!

Are you freaking * INSERT MULTIPLE EXPLETIVES HERE* nuts? Smallville has the absolute best premieres and finales on TV, most of the time rivaling features. It's only rivaled by Supernatural.

Season 4 episode 1, was the best premier.
The whole clark with no memory, lois lane shows up, clark flying and ripping the plane door off. I have to admit that season was pretty good as well. The whole search for the crystals and forming a bigger crystal to make the fortress at the season final leaving you with a wow factor.
The worst finale was doomsday. The other finals left you hanging waiting for the next season to find out what happened. Doomsday just cut you off, there was no major suspense build for the next season, only the zod part was the suspense and to be honest it wasn't much of a suspense compaired to previous season finals.
Season finales
season one:
left you hanging in a tornado with clark and lana. Do they make it or not?
season two:
left you hanging as clark wears the red kyrptonite ring, and runs away, where has he gone, dose return to normal?
season three:
clark leaves for training with jor-el, dose he full fill his destiny as superman?
season four:
the fortress gets built, what inside the fortress and dose clark now become superman
season five:
lex becomes the vessel for zod, clark in the pantom zone. how dose he escape?
season six:
left with bizzaro kicking clarks butt, lana dead?
season seven:
left you with lex distorying the fortess and finding out about clark, is clark ok and is lex dead?
Season eight:
Blah, the only good suspense was lois was gone into the future, what happens next. Nothing really with enough omph!
Feel free to comment.

Season Premiere: Season 3 (Exile)
Season Finale: Season 5 (Vessel)

I must admit that the current ones are a little bland, but I think it may be due to fact smallville may end in season 9 or 10, so it looks like they are trying to rush things and tell the story quicker, leaving things like how the fortress was rebuild after braniac and doomsday etc etc; out of the story making it a little thin. It would be good if they could make the stories and hour long instead of 40 minutes or so to tell the story properly hench creating a better premier or finale.

Just to give you my opinion on some episodes I hated

Calling -> Exile

Since i don't feel like typing out a long statement, I will just block and copy my feeling on this entire run from another post

3 episodes of "my life sucks" Clark, Clark doing something stupid without him doing anything heroic. This is typical drama for the sake of drama crap and it's reeved up to 11.

Let's take a quick analysis of the entire arc

Clark is finally happy, him and Lana are finally together after 2 long years of the producers throwing every road block to stop the relationship. Lana has seemed to given up for 1 episode hounding Clark about his secret like she has done the rest of Season 2 and bakes Clark a cake. So far so good.

Now that Clark and Lana are happy(for a change), Clark's evil tyrannical AI father comes calling Clark that it's time to take over the world(or at least that's how Clark interpretes it). Maybe Jor-El is sending Clark a signal because everytime Clark and Lana finally seem happy something wrong happens in his life(see Reckoning)

Now what are the chances this would happen right on the day of Lex's wedding and him finally being happy with Lana(on Smallville very high). So in Exodus we see Clark spend all day depressed and how is life sucks and decide to run away by putting on a Red K ring and do everything morally wrong towards the Superman code.

Then we get to Exile, we are to believe this is 3 months after the fact. Red K episodes should be 1 day then Clark learns his lesson, not 3 months and Clark starts a crime spree that would get the attention of the FBI and other government agencies. What makes it worse is we see a scene of Clark even on Red K feeling depressed so he takes it off and calls his mom, then hangs up on her and puts it back on(that should of been the end of Red K Clark there and at least we would have got some decent conclusion that Clark himself broke free of the red K because he realized his stupidity, but no we can't even get that).

As somebody who just wants to watch a show about a young guy who one day will be Superman this should be a 1 episode storyline and at the end of the episode Clark learns his lesson and moves on instead we get this drawn out storyline were Clark heaven forbid can't go more then 10 minutes being happy because Clark's life sucks.

So beyond this crappy storyline other issues I have with it

Helen Bryce who I thought was a cool charatcer and generally written as a good person all of a sudden in a "wonderful" plot twist is an evil ***** who set up Lex. Can't anybody leave this show with diginity, guess not.

Chloe becomes an emotional basket case selling out her friend because heaven forbid he kissed Lana

Jonathon after 2 years of putting down Lex all of a sudden says sure why not I will stand in for your father on your wedding.

Exile led us to the "great" Jonathon has heart troubles plotline of Season 3. Here is an idea get a piece of Green K and go use it on him, would have saved him all the hassles of dealing with Jor-El and 1 less thing for Clark to feel guilty about in Season 3

We find out Clark's mom never baked Clark cakes because she was the worst mom in the world and was scared something would happen at her son's bday(although had no issues sending him to public school), isn't Lana wonderful for putting Clark's mom in her place.

As for other episodes

Relic: what exactly was the point of this episode other then the producers getting Kristin and Tom to do everything Clark and Lana couldn't do because of the current storyline? Please don't tell me we found out Jor-El sent Clark specifically to the Kents at the end. 2 minutes worth of good episode doesn't save the stupidity of the other 38 minutes. The idea that Clark's dad was an adulterer(I guess it runs in the family) or Lana Great Uncle forgives "Louise" for being a slut is just ridiculous. What's even worse if Relic was supposed to allow us explore Jor-El's life, none of it sticked the next time we see Jor-El. I personally hate SV's take of Jor-El

Traveler: Clark stuck in a cage like a moron and needs 3 girls to save him. Yet another example of the show completely demasculating Clark to show us how wonderful all the female characters are and how Clark is lost without them(ie he is the hero let him be the one doing the saving). What is even worse is saving Kara should have been a Clark-Kara moment, not Chloe. Everything was wrong with this episode from start to finish(don't even get me started on the stupidity of Veritas)

Reckoning: more needless "drama" that Clark can feel responsible and hate his life about. I hated the whole Clark loses his powers but gets them back but somebody has to die in his place. Typical crappy SV drama

(lana=shyt episode)

While many episode near the top fall in that category. Lana was the least of my problems with Traveler, Calling or Exile(or even Reckoning). Power was probably the worst Lana episode ever followed by Trespass. Promise I hated more for how it was portrayed like a really bad soap opera and I hated Clexana, Ageless was just incredibly stupid premise(If you notice I wasn't a fan of the episode Ryan(did they really need to bring him back to die) although I liked Stray, Ageless was just trying to recreate "Ryan part 2" and bombed).

Lustiest scene: Clark and Maxima in the lift.

Best scene with SFX: MM flying Clark to the sun, Chloe teleporting Clark from the Phantom Zone, Chloe resisting Brainiac's attack.

Sexiest scene: Chloe playing with her lollipop, Chloe in Clark's barn wearing his football jersey

Most gratuituous scene: Chloe and Clark in the shower. (Awesome, loved it :D )

Favourite scene: In my 41 years of tv viewing, I have never seen a better scene than the S 5 cliffhanging episode where Chloe grabs Clark and gives him a huge kiss because she has always loved him, will always have a special place in her heart for him, and didn't know if it would be the last time she ever saw him. It was truly a magical moment of tv history for me. Perfection.

I can already see that this years finale will be the worst.
Once again the CW cheaps out by creating a non-power battle.
maybe they will introduce the "Phantom Zone" for the zillionth time.
Where is Kara?

The Finales are always better than the Premiers simply because they end a storyline (mostly) and bring up the possibilities for the future (much more than their opening counterparts).

But I digress. My fav finale has to be when "Clark" flies towards CAMERA and his faces changes into that of Bizarro

I'm so sad that you think that. This is the best season ever imo. The acting has dramatically improved and TW has matured onscreen, thus maturing the show and it's so refreshing!

I personally always like the Season Premiers because I think I wait all summer for it and it is such a relief for a new epi to arrive after all that time that I don't really care what happens. The Finales always leave me like "WTF", but it's never because I hate it, it's just that it's kind of like finishing a favorite book with a wierd ending ...

I guess I just don't understand why someone would keep watching SV and then come on here and complain about it.:(

We can remeber with a very big smile that times when we used to see a Clark Kent that used to go to school, to hang out with his two best friends and the girl of his dreams. That time when the only think that he needed to save is the day, not the world or the Universe.

Now we see a Story where the sake of humanity is mor important than being wondering who to talk to the girl next door (or farm jeje):D.

Clark has beacome a man and I will miss that teenage boy who wanted to be normal...

First off Ppl ...let me preface this post with a couple of things....so you all don't freak out. LOL. Firstly , I realize they can't get everything EXACTLY right in a television show. And I am a HUGE FAN of smallville ...i'm not just knocking it for the sake of knocking it. However, Some of the cheesy things, and stupid oversites in some episodes just piss me off at times. The writers don't seem to get that they are contradicting themselves at times, and that to me is just shoddy storytelling. For example, probably one of the things that pissed me off the most about the smallville universe, is the episode where Clark first meets the Flash. Now let me again preface what I'm about to say with a couple illustrations. In the episode where Clark was hypnotized by that girl with the necklace, and near the end she wanted some champagne ...Clark runs to Metropolis and back in less than 10 seconds. Furthermore ...there are NUMEROUS episodes where Clark makes the trip from smallville to Metpls. and back in the same manner, so that should illustrate his speed. Now back to the episode where he first meets the flash. At the end of this episode, Clark tries to convince the Flash to stay with him in smallville, to which he responds, "If you can catch me, I'll think about it." Then Immediately takes off. Now, EVERYONE that reads comics knows that the flash is way faster than superman, however that isn't the point i'm trying to make right now. They both take off running....for a GOOD 10- 20 seconds, WAY more time than it takes clark to make a ROUND TRIP from smallville to metrps. and BACK. Then once Bart, the Flash, Barry, Impulse...whatever you wanna call him, hits the afterburners and disappears, Clark stops in the middle of the road, and is seemingly STILL in SMALLVILLE and no where NEAR where he should be in terms of how fast he was going. OK..a couple of points here.... A.) Clark seemed to be struggling to keep up, when episode after episode , we have seen that he can run MUCH faster than that. His surroundings were still moving, hence he was moving at a MUCH slower pace than when his surroundings are frozen. So there's THAT he could have been running faster. And B.) The Flash would have been long gone as soon as he started running in the first place. Clark waits for like 2 seconds before he chases him...and thats WAAAAAYYY to long when you are dealing with someone that can run the speed of light. Anyways.....Like i said in the beginning, I realize it's just a show, and they can't get everything right. However they could at least try to not make silly contradictions like that, for me, It truly takes away from an otherwise perfect series.

The Smallville universere is ripe with such contradictions Crash, no point in getting worked up about it. There's a thread specifically devoted to such head scratchers as the one you mentioned here.

hmm... favorite episodes.
i know its a little odd, but i loved the season 8 premiere :)
as well as the obvious ones, justice, absolute justice.
im also a sucker for the episodes that show the most growth for clark even just within the episodes.
starting as early as season 2 with Rosetta, then goes on to the season 5 premiere with the creation of the fortress etc. while justice and legion fall into the same category.
&& of course the best of the clois episodes.

Exile and Homecoming (once you saw the iconic villain Brainiac show up at Smallville High, you had confidence this would be a good episode, and that was a classic opening, even with Clois barn scene with that)

HIDDEN had the most lamest opening ever, I saw by that point, the writers were lacking, it opens with that music and fuzzy shot of the gun sharpening up, and some homocidal maniac, that opening all immitates to me, "da-da-da! Another killer!"

*rolls eyes* and I didn't but that kid shooting those people. Plus that scene was very cliche. "Press the button"- "You''re out of your mind."

That wasn't a very good character. He wasn't very well developed.

But you think they're trying to give the audience a big shock in a positive way, "oh no, another killer is about to kill some people! omg! so many bad people in Smallville!"

It was redundant, that's why I couldn't give any feel to that.

Commencement has a strong opening. Vessel too.

Bloomsday and Salvation kind of ruin that though, when their supposed to be dark episodes. Because both those episodes started out very brightly, and strangely didn't open with the main plot 1) Doomsday, and 2) Zod and his soldiers are about to start World War III, crisis starts.

What the series finale opened with did it decently, it starts with Apocalypse, much like the opening of "Commencement, " the intro of what was going to happen, the casos.

That's what season finales should open with, the start of the main plot, what's going to come in the end. Spanteneously, they just do something light, like show Superman's costume for the first time. Should be a dark opening.

In later seasons, they didn't know where to place a scene. bad editing sometimes.

Speaking of which, a badly, timed-edited episode, "Blue," as for the rest, well they sho you Lara, one scene at the Kent House, right after that...but ten minutes go by, and you forget Lara! They don't establish any scenes with the two together. She comes to the Queen Tower, and you're like "oh...I forgot all about her."

Everything's f*ed up in that episode.

"Gemini"'s opening sucked as opposed to its ending, it was superb. Bizarro. Classic.

I think the season 2 opener did well. Season 3's opening was really good. Three months later. You got so into it.

Season 4 was meh, but the episode on the whole: good.

Season 5, yeah that was what I wanted, should have ended there though with the FOS. Too much had to be done in Smallville and the FOS at the same time, plus Alaska, the hospital, but once again, too much time spent on Chloe...Clark was way too busy and had too much to do, he needed to go back to SMallville and save people dammit! But he hasa chat with Chloe, they need to do that yes, but there are bigger things happening, and he has little time left.

Season 6's opening is strong. Phantoms, and good music score. First glimpse of the "S".

Season 7's was good too. Hmm...I can't really complain about any openings.

Least favorite for me is the last season's opener.

Greatest ending were the cliffhangers, "Gemini" and "Vessel." It's all in the music that gives you goosebumps.

Mark Snow's was the best though in "Vessel"'s ending. Gets me every time.

There some great scenes in Smallville that were only for like 20 seconds, you know that?

"Descent," the opening has a new record. 4 and a half great minutes with a ton of moments between Lex and Lionel.

I'll hvae to say that's one of the best openers.

That, and "Siren."

and...ohhh, "run," it was cool, and mysterious, because you're hoping it's the Flash, it's such a great concept. You hear a super speed sound, and the kid appears in red, and you hope he turns out to be what yoou want him to be. Then he disappears. The cat meows, lol.

Then Clark and Jonathan on their way, plus the accident, Clark gets his first glimpse and meeting with the Flash...just for the fact that it was the Flash when he was young was so cool...those episodes get hge ratings. It was great.

ALL that I am asking for is another show that can BEAT Smallville, but it's just not possible. 10 years of an amazing show, with the same main actor, Tom Welling, the entire time... It's impossible to ever happen again. This may sound a little corny, but Smallville will always and forever be in my memory as the greatest show ever!!!! It taught life lessons, guided you through a remarkable journey, and also had an element of humor. My best wishes for the cast and crew to have great careers in the future.

ALL that I am asking for is another show that can BEAT Smallville, but it's just not possible. ......
Personally, I thought the finale was horrendous. What are your thoughts?

1) Another show WILL beat Smallville, the question is when. I used to think no show would beat "Cheers" until "Star Trek-Deep Space Nine". As for "Smallville", as great a show as it was, it had enough flaws that the next epic series that comes along only has to avoid those mistakes. I'm talking about storylines dropped without explanation, or at the very least, a satisfying conclusion. I'm talking about attitudes that made no sense, such as Chloe's attitude towards Lionel, even after he was changed by Jor-El and even saved Chloe's life. I'm talking about Clark treating the clones of Zod and Jor-El as the real men. I'm talking about 'heroic' Green Arrow murduring (he thought, Clark thought, we thought) Lex with no thought of turning himself in, with no thought by Clark to haul him in himself. It was a great show, but it had glaring mistakes.
2) I liked the finale. I would have liked it more if it was spelled out that the Lex we saw here was the orginal, with cloned body parts, and not a complete new clone, like Clone Zod or Clone Jor-El. Still liked it.

LOLOLOLOL!!!! I'm saving that one. Gospel.

There was a lot I liked about CyberJor-El, but I had some problems with him (it), and that was one of 'em. Main one, in fact.

During S10, I posted relentlessly of how I hated that at the last minute, they gave us a major thread that pretty much said I was an evilminded fool for not agreeing with their political beliefs. That kick in the groin remains my most hated thread. Only hated one, actually. Don't misunderstand, there were others I didn't care for (the bulk of S4, for example) and the whole idea of Clark treating CyberJor-El, the Jor-El clone, and the Zod-And-The-Kryptonians clones as the real article. They weren't. The real Zod was stuck in the Phantom Zone, and most of the Kryptonians (and Jor-El) were very much dead. Clark never met Jor-El. he delt with Jor-El for Windows and a clone. Not Jor-El.
I can think of more, but those stand out.

I think this little comic explains why I hate the way the show did Jor-El to a tea

LOLOLOL. Gospel.

There was a lot I liked about CyberJor-El, but there was a lot I didn't like, too, and this is at the top of the list.

During S10, I posted relentlessly about how I hated the thread in that last season with the lesson that I was a simpleminded fool with evil intentions for disagreeing with their political beliefs. Now that all is said and done, that remains the only thread I loathe. And i will stand by my promise never to trust the last showrunners again.
But there were other threads I didn't care for. Most of S4 seemed to be written as they went along, with no real direction, espescially concerning if Jason was who he appeared to be, or if he was in league with his mother from the start. The entire "Lana possessed by a witch" thread was just lame, at least for me.
Even worse, though this isn't a thread per se, was how Clark treated CyberJor-El, Clone Jor-El, and Clone Zod-And-The-Kryptonians as the real articles. They weren't. The real Zod was stuck in the Phantom Zone the whole time, and the majority of the other Kryptonians, including Jor-El, were long dead.
Other threads that some have had issues with didn't bother me at all. Clark being indecisive once in a while didn't bother me...that was just part of his maturing into Superman. Lana being a kind of Supergirl for a time was fine too.

Smallville was a great show, it just got sloppy a few times, and very, very insulting once, when it was too late to stop watching. Other than that, it was TV worth seeing.

There was a lot I liked about CyberJor-El, but I had some problems with him (it), and that was one of 'em. Main one, in fact.

I personally just found most my hated episodes had some tie in to AI Jor-El either directly or indirectly. I thought he was written terribly from the get go. The only reason why his attitude changing didn't bother me as much as others was because I just thought well at least it's better then when we first meet him. All that being said I think the show would have been better if he never made an appearance on it in the first place.

Basically if I look at my worst 25 episodes, here is a list of the ones that Jor-El directly is my biggest problem

Exodus(2), Reckoning(3), Exile(9), Hidden(10), Calling(13), Arrival(15)

Here is a list of my worst 25 episodes that Jor-El might not be the worst thing but he is indirectly tied to the episode to some degree

Traveler(4), Beast(5), Eternal(11), Veritas(12), Quest(14), Relic(17), Solitude(19), Abyss(21), Legacy(22), Resurrection(24)

That's basically 16 of 25 episodes linked to Jor-El I could have lived without. Even if you eliminate Eternal, Veritas and Quest which is really stretching things, that is more then half the episodes that have some tie in to Jor-El that make my worst 25. That's even more then Lana-centric episodes that dominate the rest of my worst of list(Promise(1), Trespass(6), Power(7), Requiem(8), Ageless(16), Magnetic(25))

As you can see alot of my worst of episodes are tied to 2 plots that revolved around Jor-El

The S2/3 Calling-Exodus-Exile run ranks as one of my worst storyline. I should note I also hate the final scene of Rosetta with a whiney Clark and Johnathon that started that plot. That scene ranks as one of the worst scenes ever to end an episode in my book. You can probably add Resurrection(Johnathon's heart troubles) and the a lesser extent Legacy(Jor-El coming back to be a prick) to this plotline.

and

The Season 5 Arrival-Hidden-Solitude-Reckoning Clark screws up plotline(Arrival), only to have his powers taken away(Hidden) then his dad dies because of this(Reckoning). Arrival and Hidden are 2 episode that the Jor-El storyline just drags down good/ok episode to make them terrible. I should point out that I rate the last scene in Hidden the worst ever last scene on the show(even worse then Rosetta or any Clana secrets and lies scene)

Most of S4 seemed to be written as they went along, with no real direction, espescially concerning if Jason was who he appeared to be, or if he was in league with his mother from the start. The entire "Lana possessed by a witch" thread was just lame, at least for me.

Here is my take on Lana plotlines in Season 4

Where the plotlines bad? for the most part yes

Did Lana plotlines in early Seasons sell me on the show? While the early season Lana plotlines like Lana runs the Talon or Henry Small weren't bad, they never sold me on the show. I really didn't care for her Season 3 plotlines(I would actually argue S4 was a slight improvement on Season 3 Lana). Don't get me started how much I hated post Reckoning Lana storylines that to often dragged down Clark either.

Any positive thing to say about Lana plotlines in Season 4? Well they kept her away from Clark for the bulk of the season and he generally came across happier(due to less angst) which to me is a huge positive in my books.

Basically it comes down to when comparing seasons, Lana being a witch wins out over most other Lana related plots due to it being the lesser of 2 evils. The only 2 seasons of Lana plots I would rate better are S1+2 but it's not like the Lana plots were so great that it makes a huge boost to how great those seasons are.

As for your comment about "lack of direction", it's when the show had a solid direction they wanted to go in that I get scared(in general I find season long storylines to be a sore point of the show since the show generally had terrible resolution to any storyline they created). It's sort of sad that the best season long arc was Luthor vs Luthor in terms of writing and conclusion, but that storyline basically turned Clark into a secondary character with minimal involvement in it(which sort of gets glossed over when people talk about how great Season 3 is, although I found it to be a not so great season for Clark in general).

One of my favorite: "Clark would have to be on drugs to be on drugs" - Either pete or chloe, i forgot. (Red, Season 2)

"You know, it's funny to think that they used to be best friends, and now they're worst enemies...do you think our friendship would ever turn out like that?" clark to lex. talk about irony!

Lex: "Well, when people think you're insane and you're holding a rifle to their head, they, uh, tend to do what you ask."

and CHloe's love letter to clark from fever:
“I have to let you in on a secret. I’m not who you think I am. In fact my disguise is so thin I’m surprised you haven’t seen right through me.
I’m the girl of your dreams masquerading as your best friend.
Sometimes I want to rip off this facade, like I did at the spring formal, but I can’t, because you’ll get scared and you’ll run away again. So I decided that it’s better to live with a lie than expose my true feelings.
My dad told me there are two types of girls. The ones you grow out of and the ones you grow into. I really hope I’m the latter.
I may not be the one you love today, so I’ll let you go for now, hoping one day you’ll fly back to me, because I think you’re worth the wait.". so sweet

I have a little time off the next few weeks and decided to do a limited series rewatch. I settled on my favorite 115 episodes + Arrival, Vessel, Phantom, Lazarus and Finale Part 1(since I was watching another part of those cliffhanger episodes)

In Terms of how many episodes per season make the cut

Season 1 - 15
Season 2 - 10
Season 3 - 8
Season 4 - 19
Season 5 - 7
Season 6 - 13
Season 7 - 7
Season 8 - 12
Season 9 - 14
Season 10 - 15

The only Cliffhangers I left out are the god awful Calling-Exile run and Savior(which just misses out of making my top 120) and Doomsday(which I rather not watch again)

I just finished up to Season 7 on my rewatch and my opinion has changed for a few episodes. I hate to say this but the less Clark deals with Lana and to a lesser degree Chloe in earlier seasons(some of her stuff is hit and miss, generally I enjoy her when she isn't a big part of an episode but when she starts getting all passive aggressive on Clark I get annoyed and even worse there is a few episode here and there that it feels like the show goes out of there way to fit her in at the expense of Clark(which became a much worse problem starting in Season 5)), the better. The more the plot calls for Clark to deal with the guest star of that given episode, generally the less miserable Clark comes off. I don't believe the series was ment to be watched all at once because when you do it that way you notice little things in each episode that just annoy you and when you watch say 10 episodes in a day and see the same pattern over and over it starts really bugging me. As I said when Clark is dealing with whatever guest star is on that episode it's usually means less relationship drama and more Clark actually being proactive and looking like a hero.

While Season 4 still is my favorite season I think I was being to kind with how it was devoid of the Clana stuff, most episodes seem to find a way to fit one Clark/Lana scene where she could go all passive aggressive on him. All that being said the Clana at Seasons end might have been the best of the series or tied with late S2 Clana before it went to hell. I also don't think the Clana drama was anywhere near S3 or S5-7 Clana drama. To be perfectly honest if I had to pick a list of episodes to rewatch I would probably only pick 2 season 5 episodes, as for S6 I should make a pact with myself if I ever do a rewatch again, when I come to S6, I break my Fast Forward rule(I still like some parts in alot of episodes but there is no episode I would consider standout great as a whole)

Some of the storylines in S5+6 are unbearable and I feel that this was the series lowpoint. I think S5 was just poor overall, but S6 bugs me alot because it felt like the show had alot of good ideas but every episode had some link to the Clexana triangle that it drags down the episode everytime. It's sort of funny sometimes when I randomly rewatch episodes I will fast forward through Clexana scenes and S6 episodes come off great that way but when you watch it in full context it's almost unbearable at times. Season 7 on the other hand, the worst stuff from that season come of passable(it might not be good but it doesn't drag down the episode to the degree of the previous 2 seasons) and the flip side there is nothing stand out great.
