So Clark told Martha to go to Washington, and that he would let some other guy take care of the back 40 cause she wasn't gonna be around to help him run the farm. Didn't Jonathan sell that in S5 to pay Lionel back the money he gave Lois for the campaign. I can only think that Lionel may have bought back that land for Martha after Jonathan died but I don't remember anything like that.

Yeah. Just another continuity screw up. Damn it. The back forty was sold in Lockdown.

I was thinking the same thing. Johnathon did sell it to give money to lionel for the election. Maybe They grew another 40 back? Sprinkled some water on it and its like seamonkeys. lol

Not a screwup. Lionel bought it & gave it back to Martha in a later episode (Mercy or Cyborg?).

After Jonthan's death, Lionel gave Martha the money back (I don't remember in what episode). They didn't mention the back 40 but maybe she bought it back to keep the Kent legacy.

I assumed that he bought it back and gave her the deed back. It seems like my assumption was right based on this episode.

Who cares how they got the property back, this was the first smallville mention of Ben Hubbard!

Clark: Ben Hubbard's been itching to work the back forty for years.

Ben Hubbard is the man, that in Superman the Movie Clark says to his mother "I talked to Ben Hubbard, he said he's gonna help around here, whatever you need..." when he leaves to go off to the FOS, also in Superman Returns, Ben was the person that Martha was playing Scrabble just before Clark arrived. In a deleted subplot, he was going to have a scene with Clark and Martha, and Clark was going to find out they were engaged, and that Martha was selling the farm and moving with Ben somewhere. Forgot where.

Those deleted scenes can be found on the Superman Returns Special Edition.

Now check Clark out...he may be the better business man because he was like let's LEASE out the 40 this time. I found that funny.:D

I blame Clark. What kind of lazya$$ is he? As fast as he could run, how dare he let the corn crop be a bust! lol

What does Clark have to do that keeps him busy anyway? He's not going to school and he doesn't work, so basically he just has to deal with the villains that threaten Metropolis/Smallville, something Superman can do WHILE he works at the DP. I don't see why Clark can't take care of the farm. Suddenly, the reason why he decided to drop out of school is something that he can't even handle now.

I think they're setting up for his training next season, but I think it's too early for a scene like this. To make it more believable, they should have saved the part where they hire help for later in season 7, right before Clark leaves. I hope this means he will get back to college.

What happens to the farm if Martha's in Washington and Clark is at the FOS completing his training?

A Senator's son disappearing will kind of make the news big time.

Clark is to busy throwing that stupid ball against the wall to even think about running the farm by himself. Why should he care that he could do the job ten time faster and better then some random Farmer Bill?

I'm thinking that people would get suspicious if Clark was able to handle all the farm chores on his own....they have to make it look like they are running things the way a normal family would.

I'll have to check out those episodes for the "back 40" b/c I don't remember the actual land coming back to them....

I thought this too. Also, is it really that hard for Clark to handle the farm with his abilities? We know he can do most of the chores in seconds.
