Come on guys I thought that episode was actually quite good! I think the reason I liked it was because it was both a homage to the original 40's style Superman stories (bumbling clark with glasses) and a standard noir movie. It managed to be both by having Jimmy as the protagonist. If you just think of it as such then the question really becomes whether you like noir films or not. I thought all the actors did an excellent job playing the various roles, most especially Jimmy and Lana. KK has the face and voice that is born for that kind of role and played a femme fatale to a tee. Shawn Ashmore has had almost no chance so far to show his stuff, and although the reporter Olsen was nothing like his usual character he managed to make it believable and entertaining.
The only problem I have is that it would have been nice to show both sides to Superman, since Tom Welling captured the Clark side so perfectly, I like to think he could have done Supes just as well, and given the black and white and the 40's style superman suit (small "S")probably could have pulled it off visually aswell. I realise though that was just never going to happen for a large number of reasons, not least of which was that the whole thing was inside Jimmy's head. Shame though.
Given that though, bloody good episode! In Jimmys own words, it WAS nice to get away from the soap opera Smallville has become!
