Definitely when he stumbled into Chloe and pushed the glasses back onto his nose.
I yelled 'that's Clark Kent!' :D

yeah he did a good job. he really paid hommage to the late Chris Reeve on that one. But I think he owned the secret identity character more. He had more room to work and flex his acting. Either way though he did a great job.:)

Yes - he did the bumbling Kent very well - better than Reeve and much better than Routh. What ashame he wasn't picked for SR.
The "inappropriate touching" - I nearly busted a gut on that one. The funny part though was Chloe just standing there letting him do it.

do you blame her for letting him do it? glasses and all mmm

Yup, even in the 40's Chloe still had a little crush on Clark!! Keep wiping away !

I thought this was GREAT! I really saw a classic Clark Kent in tonight's performance for the first time. I was reminded of some posts from earlier episodes that basically TW sucked as Clark Kent, but I think tonight proved how great of a Clark Kent he really can be.

I think that Tom did a fantastic job in tonight's episode. I loved the fact that they gave us the Clark Kent that we all have been waiting to see. So I really enjoyed his performance in this episode.

I thought TW did an outstanding job as the Clark Kent at the Planet and he looked great in a suit. I now think that he has a future after Smallville, TW that is.

TW does surprisingly well in comedy. I'm so proud!

Wow who would've guessed?! All ya gotta do is slap some glasses on TW, grease up his hair and viola!
Way past due.
MM is going to have to add Jimmy to his list along with Lex and Lois about who gets a memory wipe, replacing the man they've always percieved Clark as, into an image of a pencil-necked reporter!

You're right - there should have been more scenes or at least a longer scene with TW like that.

Wow!
20/20 good reviews on TW's Clark Kent-ness. :P
I thought he did a good job - he was very cute and bumbly. Exactly the way I picture Clark Kent.

LOVED that scene. I wish we could get a similar scene in the real world during the final episodes of the show.

LOVED it!!! He was just the right amount of bumbling and clumsy... and I loved how Chloe looked at him as he sat down at his desk... oooo!! Gotta love the Chlark!

(God! i love him! ...his acting, i mean... I love his acting. :D)
Loved that we got to see the CK we all kinda know and love. I wish we could get a mix of 40's and real-time CK - then we'd have a near-perfect CK ready for action but not a total whiner.

He was absolutely perfect...the entire "bumbling scene" was a great homage to the Christopher Reeve interpretation...from running into Chloe, to repeatedly wiping her chest while apologizing, to adjusting his glasses...right down to when he went over to his typewriter and awkwardly started to type using the "hunt and peck" system. Did anyone catch him doing that in the background while Jimmy and Chloe continued their conversation? SO perfect. I've waited forever to see Tom's version of this Clark Kent, and he outdid my expectations!

How could it have been anyone else but Thomas Welling? I had no doubt it would be him, just like it was him playing "Joe" in The Relic.

I guess you could say Welling was okay, but he was far from great…. He did not seem real or natural as the geeky Clark Kent…. The script definitely made him like the classic Clark Kent, but Welling’s acting was nothing special….. Comparing that Christopher Reeve is insulting.
Superboy2
05-04-2007, 12:37 AM
So does this mean TPTB are going to make him geeky and bumbling? Or was it just an homage?
ForzaItalia
05-04-2007, 12:42 AM
They should make him geeky in the last episode. But for now, I think it's just a homage.

look, i love Tom welling more the next person, and i think he is a terrific actor, but saying he was better than Chris reeve is just insulting to chris reeve, since he kinda invented that clark. plus, tom was only that clark for about 5 seconds, when reeve was that clark for 4 movies. i really truely believe you can NOT compare the 2 performances. yes, tom did a great job. in fact, i almost jumped my tv screen, but you can't compare 5 seconds with 4 movies.

Tom really was amazing tonight.. it gave us a glimpse of the future Clark Kent and Superman.. :)
SuperSerena

I think this was a snippet of the future Clark but I really dont think they will be able to show us much more of Clark acting like that again. It was clear that Jimmy saw through him who's to say anyone else on the show wont. Also Christopher Reeve and Tom Welling cannot be compared to one another as their portrayel of Clark Kent. They each play him at different parts of his life. Granit in the scene Tom Welling does a great job of the bumbling Clark we all love from the movies.

HE'S the true clark kent, he did an awesome job! he was like George Reeves very true to the character, and I would spill more coffee on my shirt if that meant Clark cleaning it for me... OMG TW looks gorgeous in Bw

I agree with that..he did remind me of George Reeves.. I think that Christopher , George and Tom were born to play the roles...I couldn't imagine it any other way...and TW rocks in black and white...Let's face it..he looks gorgeous in any color

Tom did a phenomenal job as mild-mannered Clark Kent. Smallville's Clark Kent is obviously not like that, but it's really nice to see that Tom could do it when prompted to.

i really thought tom wellington was fantastic in Noir.
He really is a great actor, to play the true bumbling stumbling clark kent, then the suave clark at the club.
Really great episode.

Dudes and dudettes - the "classic" Clark Kent was not at all bumbling. That is the Christopher Reeve version. Kent was a sharp reporter usually in competition with Lane for the top story. Jimmy Olsen worked with both - largely with Lane though. That is "classic" Kent. The confident TW Clark Kent version is closer to George Reeves and the original.
All that aside - the "Reeve" Clark portrayal was indeed very good. Mannerisms and all.

I loved Tom Welling's bumbling Clark Kent. His alter ego cop was a little... dark. But I loved Tom in the whole Noir sequence!

Woah there Sancho--he was basically channeling Reeve's interpretation for that scene. How can you possibly say it was better?
Reeve>Routh>Welling in the role--sorry TW fans.

I agree that no one will ever be better then Reeve, but imo I believe Welling did an amazing job during this scene. I would have to say it is better then Routh though sorry. :D
