I'm very confused about what Lionel knows and what he doesn't. I'm not sure if Lionel was faking his ignorance about the Ares project because he was in front of Lois or if he really didn't know.

Yeah, Lionel showed a lot of emotion for someone who usually never does. Also makes me wonder if Lionel and Lana made some sort of side deal. Info to Lionel for her freedom from Lex.....

I don't think it's clear that Lionel is somehow blackmailing Lana. I just don't think Chloe understands why Lana would be taking the actions she's taken like marrying Lex or going behind both Luthor's backs.

I think there is some evil to Lana....upcoming!!!!!

She isnt totally innocent as she tells Chloe..!!!! She seems to be playing some kind of a game to get Lionel out of her way for Clark..!!! Although..it would be vry vry evil to do so..or something like that...!! but somehow I get the feeling...its not complete that Lionel is blackmailing Lana...and Lana is being easily manipulated...after what she did in the Nemesis!!!!! There is some sort of a complex situation..!!! Luthors play hard ball!!!

I think that even if Lionel told Lana that he was protecting Clark, she still doesn't fully trust him. Lionel told Lana to dig into what Lex was up to and to bring the information to him. But instead of going to Lionel, Lana went to the papers. Senator Burke's peeps intervened before the damage could be done though. So Lionel now knows that Lana was trying to get out from under both Lex and Lionel with one move. And she failed.

And now she's in a lot of danger, because it's probable that Senator Burke will tell Lex about what Lana was doing. And Lex will realize that he can't trust the only person that he does trust. As much as I have not been a fan of this Lexana thing this year, I have to say that I'm pretty interested to see Lex's reaction when he realizes that Lana has betrayed him (even though it's justified, he won't see it that way).

I agree. Lana might be double dealing, but I think shes' playing Chloe. Chloe saw that ruthless side of Lana last week when Lana was willing to let Lex die. Lana saw that, and is trying to justify herself with the 'I was forced into this marriage on the threat of Clark's death'.

Pity me Lana is so boring.

Hopefully, we'll get SOME answers in the last two episodes of the season.

He did know about the Ares project. What he didn't know is that Senator Burke is also involved in that project and working with Lex.
