But at least they had the choice to die of lung cancer if they wished without all the badgering from anyone and everyone. ;)
I thought it was nice to see something as realistic as people smoking in a bar (and anyone who thinks people don't smoke in bars because it's "bad for you" has never been to a bar) on Smallville.

They must have had 20 smoke machines on set. It's sort of funny to see the innocent Talon turned into a smokers meet.

Pure 40's noir to be sure. Then again, Bogart died of throat cancer at about 57 years of age :(

Not that I recall. And I'm sure there's some sort of restriction on Clark smoking. But pretty much everyone else had a ciggerette and/or cigar in hand. I had no problems with it, it was definetly true to the genre and the time period.

I noticed the use of ciggarettes was in high force during this episode. At least I did not see Clark smoke. That would have ruined it for me.

Right, seeing a main character that likely would've had a cigar at the bar in an old 40's movie light up and make it more realistic as a parody/homage would've killed it....
/sarcasm
May I ask why? If I recall correctly smoking is not an illegal activity and this was only a dream in the first place.

It would've been funny to see Clark trying to smoke a cigarette to impress the ladies, and then cough very badly for a few minutes.
Ah, how I miss good-old clumsy Clark.

In sweden it is forbidden to smoke on bars, restaurants, coffee houses etc etc, you have to go outside to smoke. And even though I smoke like hell when drunk, I still think it's the best law ever made.

I noticed all the cigs too.
It's funny but it is an accepted Hollywood tenent now that only villians smoke in movies. A while back it denoted being the hero or the 'tough guy' but nowadays it's usually a dead giveaway if a character smokes in a movie as it means they are a villian or could become one.
So when I first saw the cigarettes with the main characters I figured that was what they were doing. Then I chastised myself and reminded myself that in the 40s everyone smoked.
I do think that it was probably handed down that Clark not smoke though. You simply can't have Superman smoking. Too many people would complain.
Meanwhile they have no qualms with Clark shooting Lana and killing.

And I have to say I think it's the lamest law ever. When I don't want to smell smoke or inhale second hand smoke I just plain don't go to bars. And you better believe if anyone tried to pass a law banning smoking in bars here (as in east TN) they'd be destroyed politically.

My neighboring state--Illinois--just passed a law banning smoking in ALL public places (I think). Pretty much means that the only places you can smoke now are in your own home or in your own car (and in my state it is illegal to smoke in a car with minors).

I think he's just referring to Clark. Clark is the embodiment of good basically, and to see him self-inflect poison on himself would not be very accurate to the character.
Actually what would be the point of Clark smoking anyway, he wouldn't get any sort of buzz or anything. Pretty much same reason why alcohol doesn't affect him.
However I was happy to see all the other characters light up, that's just how it was back then.

I don't care if people want to kill themselfs with cigarettes I just don't want them blowing the smoke into my face and forcing me to breathe it.

Though it was kinda fun to see who on the cast actually smokes/(ed) in real life. Someone on the set have this information?
