That was some bad lip-synching there.

I'm really hoping they didn't hire a voice double for her, because if they did it was a complete waste of money.

meh...not everyone is teri hatcher. besides the buffy musical showcased some of the worst vocals i've ever heard, but it's still one of my favs.

That singing was as flat as a pancake. And that ain't good.

I can, I did some singing on stage a few years ago (OK over twenty years) I won the Karaoke contest in two catagories during a Muscular Dystrophy benifet fair, one for male adults, the other a duet with my daughter, we sang the Disney tune "Somewhere out there".
My wife sings lead in the church choir and my eleven year old is the lead in the school choir.

I probably get a -10 negative with my singing.

Lois singing was okay, could pass off as a vegas entertainer.

I really hope she doesn't go actress-turned-singer.
She wasn't terrible, but she was nowhere near good.

So, was that really her singing then? I'm not one to judge usually - since I sing best while in my car with the radio turned up - I just have to say that it was ok but not the best role or voice talent for Erica. imo.

I am not putting down Erica, the sound mixers in the production crew could have done better with her voice.

Erica did an awesome performance, they just flattened her voice in the mixing.

I'd agree with that. Since I dabble in a bit of the sound mixing I can say that I've known people who can take someone who can't sing and turn them into gold.

I just felt that overall - reducing Lois to a Lounge Singer and making her the 'other woman' for Lex was just well.....a step down. I think they could have done it a little differently. But that's just me 'back-seat driving' about how I would have done things differently lol......

I think ED did a good job with the song, i just don't think this was the right style for her. Hey, it could've been worse. she could've been seriously off key, just there to be with Lex.

She's not a trained singer but her voice itself isn't bad. If she had trained in the art and it was a passion in her life she could pull it off better, but I'm glad we heard her and not a professional who we can all tell has a different voice. Expecting her to sing like a professional is like expecting Britney Spears or Christina Aguilera to act with any great skill. Not every singer or actor can be like "Jay-Lo" :p

That scene seriously reminded me of Jessica singing in Who Framed Roger Rabbit. One of the best movies ever made IMO.

Some people keep saying it wasn’t her but it did sound a lot like her. Where is the proof if it was or not her? If it was her then I give her credit even though she wasn’t the greatest. If it wasn’t her then I think they could of gotten someone better, but what can I say whoever it was is a way better singer than me.

Hey I thought Erica did great. It's just we didn't get to hear too much of her singing cause most of the time we saw Jimmy and Clark talking while Lionel conversed with Lex.

She wasnt bad (if she really was singing:D ), but i'm rather listening another kind of music - something faster:) I will be greatfull if she dont start sing professionally:lol:

She did great. Don't forget she was singing what they sang in that era. Blues or something like that but she was great.

Erica Durance was marvelous in the episode!!! She has a very beautiful voice... People said her voice was flat, blah, blah, blah... But I didn't hear any flaw in her singing... I think she actually makes Geri (spice girl) looks wayyyyy bad... No offense... But I compare ED singing with Geri's perhaps perhaps perhaps... LOL... Where can I get the song? I mean of Erica Durance singing... I really want that (If there's any)... ehe

Actually, there have been TV actresses who happened to be excellent singers. Renee Olstead, for instance, she was on 'Still standing' and her voice is excellent, IMO:

I though it was okay.
I was not expecting to hear christina aguliara up there. If she can sing great, if she can't no biggy, not points lost for not having the best voice.

Does that make sense?
Lois is not a singer she is a Reporter.
now if her singing was as good as her reporting, that would be something sweet to hear.

That was my original point when I started this thread.

As a singer, she makes a great reporter.

The singing was not bad. I have taken music studies for a many years now. And if anyone actually took the time to analyze the singing would have noticed it was on pitch. I agree with kiariclois.

I'm listening definitely another kind of music. I think nothing from my music is similar to Lois singing. But it was good. Im not saying that i could listening it all the time like i do with some songs, but it was nice.

I thought she was good and on the right note. For those of you who already seen Spiderman 3.Mary Jane sings in the same style. In fact,I thought the scene was very simular.

I agree with that 100%.

How can you compare the 1940's style of singing to that of 2007? You can't. I wasn't around in the 40's, I don't like the 40's style of music, but the singing was definitely on pitch.

You can't judge things from the 40's based on today's standards.

smallvilleobsessor17

^^Just because someone was on pitch, that doesn't make them a good singer. But hey, ED was better than I am. Then again, at least my singing makes people laugh.:p

I'm not saying I liked it, not at all. I didn't like the song or the style of music. I hate things in black and white. Noir was just a waste of an episode IMO.

But the singing wasn't as bad as these goons are making it out to be. If they can do better, where were they when the casting call went out? In the studio working with their producer on their new CD? I highly doubt it.

Erica is not the greatest singer, but good enough to sing lullabyes to her kids, without covering their ears, when she has them.

I agree with this. They could have used Lois' temperament and given her a more 'Lois Lane' role as another reporter.

Instead, they made the Lounge singing- and the one scene with Lex- as a 'We need a scene for Lois...'

It was a huge step down. I was mroe interested in Jimmy & Clark than with the distraction of her voice.

You gotta remember, this was all in Jimmy's mind. It's how his subconciously precieved the people in his girlfriend's life.

She did it just fine, for such a lame song that is :p

It just wasn't something suited for her.
I am sure if they had time (or budget) she would or could have done better.

I agree with this. I was disappointed by how they used Lois' character in this story. It would've been awesome if she was a walk-by Daily Planet staff member, esp since Clark finally was shown as a journalist in this one. But heck, I'm just glad Lois is back. :D

I do think it is really Lois Lane/Erica Durance's singing. She is a very good singer. I've read that Erica Durance took voice lessons/singing lessons for 12 years. (Yes, it truly is her singing).

I've listened to the song a few times, and Erica's singing is pretty good. She has a smoky, sultry quality that is perfect for the material.

Well I'm not an expert in music, I took piano lessons when I was 10 only, but even if someone isn't an expert in music you know if the singer/performer is good or not, and I think she was pretty good and she did an excellent job, it's like she have a bad voice !!
It's really nice, it's the only part I enjoyed in this episode :D

I found a website that streamed the song that Erica sang in NOIR. I listened to it a few times, and actually, her singing is pretty good.

And that definitely was Erica singing. There's an interview with her on Youtude in which she describes recording the song, and then lip-synching during the filming of the scene.

I've been singing classically for years, so I'm really picky about singers, but she wasn't terrible.
Not great either, I'de say she was brave for singing, and it wasn't horrible.
