Why did Sylar cover for Pete's big Booboo(exploding nyork)?

duno but i also think he made it so hiro got out of there by letting mohinder get the drug instead of matt, he knew that mohinder was going to save him, even though sylar is evil i dont think he wants NY to explode...

of course he doesn't want NY to explode - he has the perfect cover of the city - and the country probably changed a lot since it happened so he couldn't get around as easily as he did in the past.

Sylar probably covered for Peter because it suited his main goal of finding Claire and finding other special people. I don't think he was doing it to be friends with Peter. Maybe Sylar really wants a show down with Peter? Someone who can actually put up a fight.

Sylar didn't cover for Peter. Nathan did. Sometime after, Sylar killed him.

Well I don't know if it was his intention, but everything played out fairly well for him until he ran into Peter, so maybe he was just trying to put himself in a position where he had more power and control over these people. Once he posed as Nathan, exposing Peter would only hinder him from staying in that position. Using himself as a scapegoat was much more practical, especially when his name and reputation have been thrown around several organizations that we've seen so far. It wouldn't be too much of a stretch to believe that Sylar is no different from any other terrorist except that he comes ready made to nuke a city.

Seems practical to me that Sylar used himself because everyone hated him and was after him. If he was exploded and died, no one would be looking for him so no one would suspect he's Nathan Petrelli, the President of the United States.

I'm guessing Nathan died in the explosion, and upon learning this Sylar decided to use this to his advantage and put himself in control of the U.S., giving him the most power he could.

As for giving Mohinder the injection needle, pretty obvious he was just testing Mohinder's loyalty to make sure he was still with him/Nathan.

Sylar would have had to kill Nathan after he was elected, because he had acquired Nathans' power.

Well it was either really Nathon's idea to let Sylar take the fall to protect Peter and Sylar just went along with it after he assumed Nathon's form OR most likely Sylar did it so that peeps with powers would stop looking for him. He's a bad arse one on one but if a whole group of heroes got wise and went after him all at once, he'd likely not make it. But now peeps think he's dead so he has a less of a worry of being attacked.

Plus now, he get's what he wants. His conversation with Claire is the biggest clue. He told Claire that he's now the most important man in the world and that's what that impotent little man wants. Especially now while he's in office, he get's to use Mohinder and the resources of the us government to try and wipe out the competition so that he gets to be the only person alive with powers.

AND lastly, for some reason I think Linderman is probably the one that convinced Sylar to take over Nathons life for that very reason. I mean "Linderman Act", that's a bit convient for Sylar to just have came up with the word "Linderman" without help from Linderman. Also, Sylar was talking about the world being "united" and thats what Linderman seemed to want real bad. So Linderman's crazy behind must have gotten to to his fellow crazy Sylar. Linderman also has access to the shape shifting chick, so Linderman could easily set up a romantic "dinner date" between her and Sylar, hehe.
