I mean Lex isnt totally evil yet. Something needs to happen to turn him way ova the edge. That something hasnt happened yet! I think him losing Lana could be it! Till the end of the season....

Do you think they're waiting for Lex to become pure evil at the same time Clark receives his training and becomes the 'S' word?

He and Mrs Luthor are perfect for each other although saving Clark put him one notch above her. ;)

Lex doesn't ever really become totally evil, does he? I mean that's always been part of the allure of his character, I feel.
I think an appropriate analysis would be that if Lex's strength is in his being evil, then his weakness comes from the tiny ounce of good that is always in him, somewhere deep deep down.

I really don't like how they handle Lex on this show.
For one, a guy who is supposed to be one of the most bad ass villains around is constantly either kidnapped or beat up. Not too long ago, he was bitc* slapped by Lionel and basically teary eyed over the possibility of Lana not marrying him.
Then they keep throwing in the possibility of redemption for Lex and then they go back to him being a "secret" villain.
The early seasons were meant for Lex to be billed as a good guy and someone who was misunderstood. The later seasons, especially now should be used for showing us why Lex becomes the way that he does.

I would far prefer that he remain somebody who intended to do good, really thought he was doing good -- but all of us knew he was doing evil by any acceptable ethical standard. The idea of him being evil for the sake of evil is...
...well...
...comic-bookish.
Yes, I know.
He's been reinvented a million times, but I've always preferred the honourable villain. The one who is deceitful, but when the Earth itself is in danger he will team up with Superman and will stand by his word not to betray him for the duration of the conflict (though after, all bets are off). The one in Smallville who mused about Segeth actually being a tragically heroic character, doing his utmost to stand against the alien moral dictatorship and ultimately conservative authority of Naman (I mean this NOT in a Liberal/Conservative Democrat/Republican sense). The one in this latest episode, who picked shrapnel out of Clark and found leverage with which to free him from the rubble.
And I like it best of all when even if his overall plan is for the detriment of humanity, he does have a point -- and on some occasions, his minor victories against Superman do turn out for the betterment of mankind (even though his major failures would be horrible if they were victories).
But I ask for much depth from a comic book character. The best I get is Clark musing that he might partially have shaped Lex into who he became -- which isn't all that bad. It's been done over and over in the comics, but usually in the comics Lex was just pissed about going bald instead of the fact that his best friend started turning on him 4 episodes before he had any good reason to start turning on him.
