View Full Version : Heroes=Watchmen.... but...

Okay, so I think it's fairly obvious that the latest plot twist is fairly comparable to Ozymandias' plan in Watchmen. (lacks a bit of Watchmen's edge, though, seeing as Linderman was never really portrayed as a 'good guy' so it's not as shocking)

But here's what I don't get. In Watchmen, Veidt used a genetically engineered 'alien' because the threat could not be seen as coming from Earth, or it would only serve to further divide the planet. To unite the planet, the threat had to be seen as something OUTSIDE Earth, something you couldn't blame on another country, or there would just be more war. We're probably all aware by now that's true.

So what will the people be rallying around in Linderman's plan, since the disaster he's planning is coming from a human, albeit one with powers? The obvious is that they will be doing like they do in X-Men, and start seeing all the 'freaks' as something that's real and something to be feared. I mean, one of them blows up NY, after all. (assuming the plan succeeds) But Linderman himself has powers, so why would he do this? Would he really sell out everyone on the planet with powers, in addition to killing most of the people in New York, to 'save the world from itself', considering he himself has powers? He could be putting himself at risk if he's ever found out, even if he doesn't care about others. And is promoting fear and intolerance, a new kind of racism in a way, really 'saving the world'?

I am hoping that Heroes differs from Watchmen and they succeed in stopping Linderman's plan. But I still have to wonder about his motivation.
