OK, someone had to do it: Where the hell was Gabe, Chloe's dad and Moira's husband...?!?

He was not even mentioned by name!!!

Tell me about it. This was a perfectly fine opportunity for him to show his face after... 2.5 years away (the last time I recall seeing him was a glimpse in the Season 4 premiere).

Yeah, they should have at least mentioned him. Even a throwaway line like, Moira saying, how's your dad and then please don't tell him you saw me. Something. had they perhaps not had to get Clark and Lana yammering on about the baby we could have squeezed in a couple of lines.

Is he still alive?

I doubt the TPTB even remember his name anymore. So sad. I really wanted him to at least be mentioned - maybe at least "did Dad know" or "how's Gabe" or something like that.

Well, at least he's not dead, right?
Didn't he return to work for Luthorcorp?

Gabe is someone who brags about his daughter to his colleagues and her classmates, not some kind of cold, emotionally detached man. It's absolutely unbelievable to have no mention of him at all.

Yeah I'm glad this thread was posted. I found not mentioning Gabe to be a major flaw in the story. They barely have any personal Chloe-centric storylines on the show so they should make sure to include mentions of her even having a father.

It's kind of like how after last season we've started to hear a couple of Aunt Nell mentions fo Lana. It's necessary since the viewers will just assume that Gabe never visits or divorced Moira for being a freak!!

I concur wholeheartedly.

They don't even give an explanation--there could have been something as simple as a phone call, with Chloe telling him what was going on and it being too late at the end to see her or something.

Jeez. This isn't even a budget excuse. Grrr.

IMO, it should have been him going through this with Chloe instead of Clark.

It just re-affirms my belief that Chloe has dropped her father to be close for her Clark worship...

In between work and ordering Clark about...where is there time for Gabe?

Why did she not have a heart to heart with him? Or at least a talk between father and daughter should have been hinted at.

Well Lois isn't so close to her father and sister, Lana isn't so close to Nell. I can be bad but didn't Gabe moved away to get job?

To be fair, we've had dialogue indicating that Lois has gone away to see her father and dialogue indicating that Lana has gone to see Nell, along with her showing up at the wedding. This Gabe guy is nowhere to be found and is never mentioned at all.

Neither Lois or Lana is a part of this scenario.

Chloe should have been shown talking to her father on the phone and or telling Clark about a conversation she had with her father.

Gabe could came in behind Lex holding a shot gun to the back of his bald head and telling him to let his daughter pass.

The writers seem to love the messed up Daddies. Lionel and Jor-el. The normal ones either die or fall into deep plot holes.

So back to my first question. Is he alive?

Why did she not have a heart to heart with him? Or at least a talk between father and daughter should have been hinted at. She didn't have a heart-to-heart with him because they didn't get the actor back. And because they don't tend to talk about bad things (or so she says when they were worried about plant closings).

When does she see Gabe? Beats me. She may well talk to him all that time she is off-screen. Just like she talks to Pete off-screen (according to the recent Torch article) and goes to school off-screen. It isn't relevant to the ep, so it doesn't happen.

I also think it's likely he doesn't live in Smallville anymore, since she's on Lois' couch instead of his.

I would prefer to think that he is alive or else Chloe's actions essentially killed her own father.

That's yet to be determined. Chloe is still living with Lois so even though she is not shown to be in class, I don't see any reason to assume that she is in school when she should be living in the dorms.

AM said it in interview. She had to ask AlMiles about it.

I agree. TPTB simply didn't care....

If they can simply cast Ashmore as Jimmy, without worrying on how some people might question that his twin brother has played a psycho who tried to kill Clark in S1, why worry about getting another actor who'd resemble Gabe in some way? Just for one freaking episode.

I'd say people don't even remember how Gabe looks like anyway.

I wanted Gabe. I think I would have been miffed if they'd cast another actor but... at least he would have been there.

This bugged me as well.
Not even a mention of poor Gabe? Argh! Why do AlandMiles do this to us?!
*bangs head on desk*
One line! That's all it had to be, just one line.
"Dad's fine, by the way, thanks for asking."
Or something else.
Just one little line.
Though I would have much prefered that Mr. Sullivan actually care enough about his duaghter and the mother of his child to get involved.

*sighs*
