Wow!

They are absolutely gorgeous. Stunning examples of CGI. One is of the beautiful, golden-orange sun shining on the globe, the other a night shot with a radial spin around the globe. :)

The one with the clouds looked a little odd but still its always nice to see footage.

Yes, I was looking for a thread to address this. They've really given us some stunning DP shots this season. TPTB must've heard people complaining last season with them reusing shots from season 3.

Yes I thought they were well done. However what is that giant building behind it? is it LuthorCorp.?

Great DP shots. I can't wait until the series is over and I (or someone better at it) can put together a Screen Saver with all those beautiful DP shots.

Yes. If you look carefully you can see the "Luthorcorp" sign at the top of the building on the side facing away from the camera.

For those that really care, here is a picture of the actual building they use in Vancouver for the DP. The Luthorcorp building is right across the street on the left hand side of the picture, out of the frame.

Yup I think that shot foreshadowed the final Chlex scene...

Reporter vs. The Billionaire and Lex has a bit of a upper hand (Taller building over the Planet) had isn't afraid to squash Chloe.

But note, we all know... Lex wouldn't make such a deal or gather evidence like that against Chloe if he didn't think of her as a threat...

I just can't bring myself to care about shots of the DP rotating planet.

A few seconds of episode gone...for spinning ball.

Think of it as visual foreplay... :)

That's a very important spinning ball though. It's essential to the plot. If that ball isn't spinning, then it would be stationary. If it's stationary, then....yeah, it's not very important come to think of it. Who cares about a spinning ball?:D

:D Come on guys. I believe the spinning ball got more airtime than Martha. Where's the justice in that?

I agree - looking forward to those screencaps. Have some fun with them :D Good shots - better than the same-old-same-old - however delightful the same-old-same-old shots may be.

Well - I do prefer to have more character interactions than just scenery (especially when the show if just a mere hour) but I do have to say that they were decent shots.

The daily planet is a big deal in superman history. The first series from the 1950's ( which is very good and can be seen online at aol video) had most scenes filmed at the daily planet.

Shots are crucial to stories. They bring you into the scene, and make it more alive. It gets you a better bearing on the surroundings, and can be metaphorical or symbolic.

Shots, scenary, and custom details (that we're all used to) bring it to life. :D :D :D

Go SV!

lol:lol: ..yeah..poor Martha! but the shot of the DP is now as important as the shots of the Kent house/barn/loft..it has become a Smallville staple now..

and the spinning ball:D ..well, we all know, once that ball stops spinning..then something is very wrong in the world (ie Vessel)

It is important. It's critical to the mythos and every time we see it it says, "Here we are at the greatest newspaper in the world which is Chloe's well earned place. It screams out who is the real reporter in the family. There were things that should have been cut but not the shots of the DP globe. We could have done without the Clark visitng Lana in the hospital; that was boring and pointless. Then we could have had a better ending where Moira slips back to her catatonic state or more background on how she became infected in the meteor shower or something actually relevant to the action instead of Lana's fake pregnancy.

Chloe worship...

They could have showed them in the Daily Planet without wasting the budget money on new shots of the globe. That was like money away from the Clark/Titan fight. It could've been all the more cooler.

Martha>Daily Planet Globe. :p

I noted both of these shots as well. The new day shot really made me sit up. It was beautifully done.
Very majestic.

Yes, there are certainly no towers taller than the Marine Building (the building they use for the Daily Planet) around it. Vancouver has a height restriction on buildings downtown so as to not block the view of the North Shore Mountains.

Everytime I see the DP spinning ball, I go "Here's someone at Metropolis, another one going into the blackhole of the three-hour drive from Smallville".

But I love it. The shots are simply beautiful. If there's anything that Smallville can always brag about and be consistent for every single episode, it's the amazing cinematography and the SFX.
