I hope the writers would not do that. I think having them exactly the same would take the show down a notch.

Yeah they are supposed to be opposites, not equal. I still have a strong belief that Peter can only use powers if the person is alive and Sylar can only use them if the person is dead. I still have not seen anything yet to disprove my theory so I am sticking with it.

I know some people claim Peter has Eden's mind control ability but since it hasn't been directly said yet I will still stick with this. Considering both Peter and Sylar do that voice changing thing like Eden, but Sylar didn't technically get Eden's power because she blew her brains out before he could, and since she is dead and Peter never knew of her ability I doubt he has it, I think when his voice changes it is just when he is "channeling" Sylar's ability.

TPTB said that the voice changing thing for Sylar and Peter was just for dramatic effect.

It sounded like he used it in .7% when he demanded that Isaac show him his future. But who knows.

the next sentence can be seen as a spoiler, so I just feel I should say.

But I Have just learned that, according to the online novel, Sylar was the original cause of the explosion in Future Hiro's timeline, where he killed and stole Claires power, you should all read the new graphic novel, it's very intresting.

Kring said in an interview that we would become more conflicted about liking or disliking Sylar, so I think Sylar is probably going to have a kind of change where he is like the villain that teams up with the heroes from time to time when it is necessary to save humanity. Sylar doesn't want the world to end, after all what would he gain out of that. I think we are going to see a change in Sylar in the coming weeks. Not to the good side, but he will start showing a side that is less reprehensible.

So with all the cross timelines and the proof now that he has gone to the past to change the future, he can bring back to life anyone who has previously died and change Peters and Sylars meetings to alter their powers.

He may not have Eden's mind control ability, but he does have Brian Davis's telekinesis that he absorbed from Sylar. Not saying that your theory is wrong by any means since Sylar is obviously still alive and that might be all Peter needs in order to use the power, but I'm conflicted here on what the limits around his power may be. I think the explanation might be slightly more complex than simply that he only has the person's powers if they are alive. However, I do like that thought a lot because it polarizes the two characters as archenemies. I think in another thread someone theorized that Peter could absorb other powers because he connects with people on a much deeper level than a normal person does, which fits your theory and fits Peter's personality as it's described in "Six Months Ago". It also explains why Peter knew about Nathan's accident at the moment it happened - it could be that the longer Peter is around a person the stronger the connection he has to them, much like magnetizing a piece of metal.

I hope TPTB go in this direction because I really don't like the idea of Sylar and Peter being identical. I think it would be too Superman vs. (insert random Kryptonian villain's name here), which wasn't bad in concept at first but it gets repetitive pretty quickly. I have no reason to believe that Sylar and Peter with identical powers would be any less redundant.
