He knows he crossed the line with Lana and is burying it all.
As if we believe he's hurt

not very lex-ish to be crying after a plan is coming together.

He just had something in his eye.

He's crying for joy not pain.

Maybe they were real, maybe he just realized he might have broke the girl he "loves". Or maybe he realizes she doesn't love him like he thought.

I believe seeing how upset Lana was, he feels remorse for whatever he did.

Well, his plan isn't working out like he hoped. Even with his power, money, and 'baby plan' he is still losing Lana. And Lex IS on the brink of insanity...so he's probably crying because he feels sorry for himself or something.

I don't know about tears, but at the end when Lana was depressed in the baby's room, Lex definately knew he crossed the line with Lana and was feeling bad for what he did.
Losing a baby is one of the hardest, if not the hardest, thing a woman could go through.

Lex was hoping losing the baby would bring them closer together......and Lana has pulled away from him even further.
Wait until she finds out the truth. Cover your privates Lex.

I think that he just forced them to make lana think he was said. I didn't really see him cry be cuz it was coming in so bad. My sis used to "cry" all the time to get me into trouble.

I highly doubt Lex cares about what he did to Lana and how she's feeling. He cares that he wants Lana....but can't have her like he wants to.

He does love her and to see her in pain hurts him.
He's not 100% evil yet

Right, not 100% evil yet...about 75%, and once again, I doubt Lex gave a damn about anyone else besides himself in this episode.

Lex is the reason why Lana is in pain in the first place.
He already lost Lana. I'm doing a countdown to Lana kicking baldy to the curb.
I think it was a natural reaction because he seems to really love Lana and he needed to repay his daddy's depth or at the very least snag the baby. Maybe he shed a tear for the monster he's becoming. He knows he's going down a road that he will loose Lana on if he can't keep his secrets.
Or maybe he just had a little bit of dust in his eye.

he might be upset that the baby was lost because perhaps he felt having the baby would bring them closer together. but even before the miscarriage lex can see that lana isn't the same. no honeymoon, not kissing him on the lips...he knows something is wrong and it's eating him up inside. i just can't wait to see what excuse he'll give lana when she finds out the truth.

i liked how he looked at the end, as if though he were burning in the flames, like symbolically on the road to Hell.

The tear has me baffled over Lex's intentions. Is he crying because he actully realizes what he did was truly evil and he should burn in hell? or was he just crying cause he knew he lost Lana? Like I said baffled.

I think Lex realizes he is a monster, but he knows he can't control his nature and it's going to lead to a devestating future for him, and there's nothing he can do to stop it.

call me crazy, but I think Lex put something in her champagne glass that caused her to have a miscarriage.
The way he looked was so evil when she took a sip of her drink. and then in the next scene we find her in pain.
perhapes it was a fake pregancy and something was given to her to make her body think she was pregnant so that she would marry him.
The old doctor saying "this isn't your typical pregnancy"
and now a miscarriage 1 week after the wedding?

In my opinion (but this is just my opinion), the baby was Clark Kent's instead of Lex's. I think the doctor told Lex that the baby wasn't his. Maybe that's why he's crying, wishing that the baby was his, instead of Clark's. We shall see who's baby it really was, and what happened to the baby (we'll know the real story, soon, I hope).

The baby is not Clark's. He and Lana hadn't been together for almost a year before she got pregnant.
The evidence seems to point to Lex faking the pregnancy in order to "secure" Lana. This is what the doctor was referring to when he mentioned Lex's "desperation" in PROMISE. The ultrasound, the tests, the symptoms, everything was fake -- a result of drugs probably. The miscarriage was intended to make her more dependent upon him (of course, it was going to have to happen eventually, since there was no baby in the first place).
I think it would be highly out of character, based on what we've seen, for Lex to have been using Lana as a breeding ground for some "monster baby." For one thing, Lex has too much access to other people for such aims -- why risk Lana?
The only sticking point is how Lionel knows about this? Surely Lex didn't confide this in him.

I think Lex was crying b/c he saw how upset Lana was, and he was crying to put on a front. Mainly b/c if he wasn't crying, it would be as if he didn't care. But Lex should be crying b/c of what he did to Lana, the way she was at the end of he episode was just awful.

I agree. Maybe not yet 100% evil, but he sure is moving in on 100% pretty quickly. I also think Lex cares about Lex and what Lex wants and nothing more. You don't treat someone you love the way he's treated Lana. He's treated her like a trophy he wanted to win. And when he thought he'd won his prized trophy, he realized that the victory was mostly mythical. Empty. If you let go of something you love, set it free, and if it returns to you, it was really yours. If not, it never was. Lex realizes that if he lets go of Lana, she will not return to him. He is not getting the dream life Lillian showed him he could have if only he made the right choices. He covets that dream life. Lex realizes that no matter what he wins, he will always be the loser. No matter what Clark loses, he will always be richer than Lex.
Lana is simply the measure of some perception of success for Lex. His love is poison, and he knows it. Whether he shed a tear for true sadness, remorse, regret, despair, or for show, I don't know. I really don't care. Lex has been a naughty boy and deserves some of the intestinal instability he has imposed onto others.
Lex has had a tough life. No doubt about it. Lots of us have had tough lives. That is no excuse to become a maniacal ruthless cold-blooded criminal. Lex made the choices. Lex and Lex alone. Regardless of his circumstances, Lex made some nasty choices, and I do not feel sorry for him. Not one little bit.
Tear or no tear, Lex is still Lex and Lex is not a nice guy.
