Kent & Lane VS. Ashley & Kane!
So what'd you think? Did rough-n-tumble Lois Lane hold her own against Athena? Or did Clark get his butt handed to him by Titan?

This kind of remind me of Celebrity Deathmatch Couples on MTV. But not really a together, they are on their own in a single Deathmatch

It was so awesome. The fatality punch was awesome too - 'bout time we saw some of the taking-care-of-business Clark.
I was practically jumping up and down and kicking and punching with him :rotfl: Way to go Clark!

And I know - I just found that out - no new episode next week - I hope the following week is good then - I mean this episode is good enough for me to ride it out for next week - sooooooo goooooddd.
And it's a good thing Clark wasn't on the Red K because with Lois dressed like that there might have been some other action going on in the ring as well.....lol
Now I'll just wait for someone to make a music vid of the episode - so many awesome songs to choose from...can't wait to see what comes out of it.

Clark can fight! DAYUM! and he kicked some arse up in there! Wasn't Titan a warrior? Clark must have really been pissed if he suddenly developed skills out of nowhere to kill that thing. This totally made up for the whimpy Clark we saw last week, we saw a different side to him. :D Hopefully they keep the fight scenes like this. :)

Finally. Clark won a fight, and fought well, without the help of chloe, or the mm!! Easily the best fight of the entire series!! I was jumping, clapping, and yelling as well! I was literally rooting for clark to get up and when he did...man I was proud. Welldone!!! That was a job for SUPERMAN!!!!!

Awesome fight. Thats what I've been waiting on for so long. Loved the first upper-cut thrown were Titan just unloaded on Clark. That whole effects sequence was great. Hey now.....Superman Returns sequel is geared up for some massive fights - check out www.darkhorizons.com for some dirt.
But I have to agree.....SV fight scene 10 seconds held up strong against the 8 min plane scene in SR ... but I still like SR. I just love Superman (although Batman is my main man.....he's a badass).

I loved it.......finally Clark really taking care of business. LOVED it when Clark jumped up in air and came down with elbow to Titan.. I even said out loud OMG!!! I guess I didn't expect Clark to fight that well. I have a feeling he was channeling his anger in seeing Titan's bald head as Lex's

Great, great fight scene. It made up for any shortcomings in the episode. I loved that Clark stood in there, took a beating, and then came on totally strong and kicked BUTT!! Thats my guy :D Good FX, and excellent work by Kane and TW.
There's something dangerously appealing about Clark's darker, more agressive side. Grrrrrr!

Fighting is an ugly brutish thing at times, especially if it's between two people who are very strong. And that's how superman fights when he really has to (Doomsday, Mongul, etc)
Superman didn't *learn* how to fight for a loooong time. Finally, Batman had to teach him how for some specific reason I forget currently. But before that time, he was a slugger...

Only thing I didn't like was the fact that Clark totally ignored his other powers... it's like they aren't really a 'part' of him... definitely not something he uses instinctively. But oh yeah... the best fight on SV yet...

he wanted it to be fair..lol
That and i think it had to do with what he told his mom about wanting to kill Titan with his bare hands.
The fight was awesome...lets make Clark let more of the warriors out of the Phantom Zone so we can see some more of this kind of action....

i think it was a good fight. at first i just thought that Chloe or someone else was going to come in and help but when Clark grabbed Titan's hand and said 'it's my turn' i got chills. Clark fought very well and i would consider him a pretty good fighter to go against a alien warrior guy and win...Good job Clark. just next time, don't leave the corpse lying around...throw it in the river if you must, that's what every body did in the old times any way...LOL
I liked it a lot more than I thought I would. And I liked that Clark didn't use his other powers... he wanted a good fight and a challenge. The victory was so much better using only his strength.

I think it is funny, some of you guys are like BDA can't fight needs mm or justice league to save him. Then we get a totally Clark centric fight and the "Now it is my turn" statement out of him and he kicks butt and it like ohh that is a mediocre fight, not impressed. Well I am sorry, but that was a great fight! I wish Zod fight had been like that, but I really like that move on Clarks part. Now we know he can take care of his self he don't need to be saved.

I was like "All-you-can" (from street fighter) at the end when he mad the final punch at Kane.
Well it seemed to live up to Titan's expectations.
"Good fight"

The fight was great. I was just hoping Clark would start super speeding around Titan, roughing him up. Still good, nonetheless.

I really really liked the fight scenes, the spike from the arm brought back memories of Doomsday who beat the snot outta Superman.
And most of all I was amazed that the fight lasted longer than five seconds!

By far the best superpowered fight in the entire series. The writers did exactly what I was saying they should do for a long time. It was nice to see Clark get and give a beating.
Edit: Also, did anyone notice that this was the first fight against a Zoner that Clark won alone, without any MM, cyrstal, or cheap trick (like he did for Gloria) being used to win.

It was a great fight, the best, but I certainly don't wish that they'd went for Clark upper-cutting Zod instead of the flying and crystal trapping, that wouldn't have been much fun. It's great to have a cool one-on-one fight for Clark once in a while (and he should've had one with Batista) but it certainly shouldn't be that way every single time. The fight took up a pretty good portion of the climax, and was all about the violence. That's just not how Smallville is, and while I *loved* the fight this week, I'm certainly disagreeing with those that wish Clark did that all the time.

Fight was great, but Titan's method of death was pathetic. Loved seeing Clark give and take the pain. Also, I think he ignored his other powers because he wanted to go physical only because of his Lana-heartbreak (ah well, can't have a perfect episode now can we?)

Amen. Personally I thought it was a great fight. People keep complaining that they never see Clark throw a punch when he has powers, and now we got it. I thought it was a great fight scene, and who cares if he didn't use heat vision or superspeed. It makes the fact that he defeated Titan a lot better.

None of the Phantom Zone prisoner fights have been all that much, but this one was very good and lasted awhile. Clark had a challenge, and he rose to it. The anger, rage, regret after the fight. It was all well done.

Well although I really like Clark's fight, I thought it could be much more improved. For example, in the last episode I believe of JLA, Superam faces off with Darkseid, and after Darkseid beats Batman, Superman gives a huge punch...then says :
"Batman won't quit as long as he still has breath. None of my team will. But me, I've got a different problem. (punches darkseid through a wall) I feel like I live in a world made of cardboard, always taking constant care not to break something..not to break someone. Never allowing myself to lose control...even for a moment...cause someone could die (another huge punch), but you can take it can't cha big man? What we have here is a rare opportunity for me to cut loose. And show you, just how powerful I really am...." Superman proceeds to own darkseid.
Now although I like Clark's "now it's my turn" I would have liked to see some more words talking about how he can own this dude, and then he uses his arsenal of abilities to demolish the guy, b/c you better believe if i had appeared to be getting beaten, and was holding back, I would say much more than "my turn." My two cents, but all in all, I still thought it was a lot better than what I was expecting.

I liked the fight scene. And Kane's comments about TW wanting to do all the fighting he could was nice too.
This fight seemed more gritty than other fights and fitting to the situation at hand. Go Clark go!

Since I don't read comics, I am not a devotee of the idea that Superman can not or will not kill a bad guy now and then, so I was very much enjoying him kick Titan's butt and wished for just a bit more violence for the latter as he met his end. As someone else said, he would have felt the full force of Superman in meeting his death, which was a good thing for every living person around him.
It was good.

The "leap in the air and punch down" effect was the best (IMO).
I just hope future episodes keep some action in them.

I hope Clark doesn't retreat to softer methods in the coming episodes - I really want him to take this experience and learn from it (although Clark does seem to have a learning problem in that he can't remember lessons learned from previous episodes).

I really liked the fact that Clark didn't use his other powers like other people were saying in here, Just raw power. I think everyone in here can relate to the clark in this episode. You try to be a nice guy for so long before you can't take it anymore...especially when no one seems like their grateful. You just feel like punching something.
Also, I really liked the different vibe in this episode. I can't really explain it, but everything about the way they did the episode was different. Music was different, I think I liked how they rode out cool scenes longer and cut the drama scenes down to where it needed to be. I hate when they drag out drama scenes that although neccessary shouldn't be as long.

The "leap in the air and punch down" effect was the best (IMO).
The setup of the fight was MMA style (UFC etc.). What's hilarious about your comment and what had me LMAO when he threw it, is that it's an MMA move called... wait for it...

Terry Funk VS Haystacks Calhoun.
They used that move back then too, odd though how the boots always hit the mat before the punch connected :D

It really was a great fight scene. I loved when Clark finally started giving it back. It showed how powerful he really is against a true opponent when it comes to pure physical ability. Not only that, Titan was trained as a warrior.
I remember thinking during the episode that Clark isn't really a fighter. The only reason he fights is because he is physically gifted in that way, yet he was still able to defeat someone with intense powers and strength who was trained to fight. I thought it hinted at a new side of Clark.

While it was an extra-cool fight scene (yeah, I'm like everyone else that has grown tired of Clark "shoving" people in the chest rather than punching their lights out), I still can't go past the Lana v Chloe fight in Delete as the best fight scene in Smallville history!!!
Peat Moss

It seems weird that they got ANOTHER wrestler for a phantom though. And it got me to thinking--why are wrestler cameos such bad acting? It IS what they do for a living, after all. (zing)
wraith808
03-24-2007, 03:02 PM
And so convincingly too... not!
What's so special about the writers blatantly ripping off a finishing blow from Street Fighter II?
I fully expected Clark to yell out "SHORYUKEN!!!!" as he did that uppercut, followed by a victory fly-around shot as he pumped his fist.

Can we please stop shouting rip-off at everything seen that vaguely resembles something else? It's boring, and it's inaccurate. The scene was good IMO because the choreography was nice. I've seen better fights, but not on SV.

I laughed when this fight turned out to be so good.
I mean this episode pretty much sucked, yet, arguably the best fight took place in it.
I mean, almost all of Clark's battles dont even last a minute and they really never get down and dirty. Hell Clark's battle with "Zod" wasnt even all that good.

While i was watching the fight i couldn't help wonder why Clark didn't use his other abilities to his advantage? The only reason i suppose must be budgetary.
He could have set him on fire and burnt him to a cinder, blown him out again and into solid ice, or simply blow him so hard that he would have burst out of the roof and into space. Titan didn't display any signs of superspeed so i'm sure clark could have delivered thousands of punches at superspeed before the guy could even blink!

Goes to show that, when a fight as crappy as this one is viewed so highly, how bad the fight scenes in this series have been.

This was an excellent epi and an excellent fight. Not just because of the special effects, even though IMO they were the best that this series has used in a fight todate, rather it was CK's whole attitude. He showed no fear, no trepidation what so ever. He was very deliberate from the opening bell. In short, he behaved like the Man of Steel who was performing a task that no one else was capable of accomplishing!

Here is my issue with what you wrote:
The fight scene, though good in terms of Smallville, paled to anything in the cartoons, what does that say about Smallville?
Clark was doing what he was doing out of frustration and anger, not very Supermanly is it?

Right. But cartoons are easier and cheaper to produce with awe-inspiring fight scenes. Cartoons and comic books are limited only by imagination. Smallville will never be able to compete with that. Seriously, it's just not realistic to think that it could.

I guess we should just lower our expectations and accept mediocrity?
Even the simple choreography was sub-par compared to other TV shows, screw the FX part, at least get that right !

IMO the choreography was right in line with the subject matter. To have CK fighting as if he was trained would have been a bigger mistake than to keep it simple like they did- Superman is a brawler, and if you're having a slugfest between brawlers, there's only so much choreography you can do...

Well, I've never watched any Smallville cartoons but this fight was between actual people so you can't really compare IMHO.
Clark's agenda has always been to deal with the zoners that he unintentionally freed. Luckily for him Lexana had his dander up enough to give him the impetus to be able to deal decisively with Titan.

Hmmm...
I wonder if the whole "Lexana" thing was created just for this episode just to tick Clark off enough for him to fight like that?
Interesting.....

This fight also proves how much ck has got to learn about his abilities. Usually when he fights someone, they sometimes die. This current fight fatality, like others: bug boy(s1), freeze/cold kid(s1) shape shifter meteor freak/lana lover, etc., have had a profund effect om clark's sense of responsibility, and compassion for living beings, despite whether they are 'good guys' or 'supervillians'.

Allow me to forget my almost 30 years of MA training, that makes me rather bias.
Allow to to call upon way too many years as a bouncer in downtown Toronto.
I have seen too many brawls, and while Kane's fighting was spot on at times, the crappy uppercuts aside, Clark's was, at best, ok, but that final punch just sucked worse than a bucktoothed crackhead.
Seriously.
Perhaps I am just over sensitive considering how many excellent fight choregraphers there are in Vancouver that coudl have made that fight WAY better and STILL made it look like a brawl.
I expected more from this episode.
Perhaps that was my mistake.

Pretty much it was. You're not the only one with MA training and fight experience. But some try to recognize the limits of the budget and time and actors. If someone doesn't have that experience, it takes a lot of work to get them to the point where they can do such things without making it look cheesey. I mean look at Daredevil for an example. They had choreographers and money... but the actors just plain couldn't pull it off. I'd rather them set the bar low and pull it off rather than see people that can't fight- TW in particular- look worse because they're pretending to.

When you look at it that way, I see your point, but I am sure you agree, they could have done better and that, to praise this display as "great" shows how bad recent fights have truly been.
Plus I am getting a tad tired about the "budget", it seems to be the excuse for everything that ends up being sub-apr or for Ton not using more super powers, even though it doesn't seem to effect everyone else using their super powers...

Coincidently I have a few year of MA training as well in pretty much every discipline that I can think of. Combat was giving us a two minute battle to the death. This was not supposed to be a WWE bout even if Kane was playing Titan. CK has never taken a fighting lesson that I know of and obviously doesn't know to even make a proper fist. However, the technical aspects aside, CK's deliberate, decisive mindset was the critical factor is this match. I to would have like the fight to be more intense and longer but TPTB are trying to mollify as many fans as possible and I think they did an excellent job.

^Agreed, wholeheartedly. The shows that have given us a really good fight scene within the space of an hour show can be counted on two hands with fingers left over. I can think of Angel, Buffy, Highlander... and.... I guess some of the martial arts shows (Walker, Martial Law, Vanishing Son...)... but other than that, I have a hard time coming up with any...
But those were pretty much centred around combat, while SV, as much as I hate to say it, is a soap opera. More of one than I'd like, but I watch it for what it is, keeping the limitations in mind.

2 minutes?
That long?
I have seen drunken whinos do better in a back alley.
I know that inconsistency is the name of the game in Smallville, but are we saying that, truly, this is the best we could have hoped for from an Episode entitled "combat" ?
I mean, how low do we have to set our sights here?
A MAN OF REASON!

It's about time we see Clark get down to business! No cornball dialog, no hesitation on his behalf. Just straight up I'm gonna kick your azz! Clark is definitely starting to realize his destiny!

I suppose we have to agree to disagree on this point then. SV is not a show centred around powers or combat, but supposedly character development (at times I have my doubts...)
But nonetheless, its a soap, as I've already said, and so combat will be by that very nature neither long nor well choreographed. But IMO they did pretty good for the limitations they have, especially since they aren't going to change that focus this far into the series.

Sure I would have liked more, but for Smallville, it was amazing.
In the past the most we could expect was a slap in the chest that knocked someone into the wall, or someone getting tossed through the air onto a car hood.
Having Clark actually connect with his knuckles was a major event.

It hasn't always been a soap--it had good character devolpment without becoming a soap at the beginning.
But this episode actually reminded me a lot of a S2-3 one. Because we got to see Clark in the loft reviewing what he learned about being a superhero on this episode.
That's, IMO, what Smallville is all about.

I'm sure if the show was about drunken winos fighting in a back alley, we would have seen a longer, better choreographed bout.
However, I doubt if it would have filled up the hour in an entertaining manner. So I fail to see your point. As fight scenes go on T.V. this wasn't the best, but it was far from the worst IMHO. Try not to forget that this wasn't the only physical confrontation in this episode. Still I can appreciate your critique of the match but IMO you are going a bit overboard in your analysis.

I think I may have set myself up for disappointment because of the title of the episode.

CK's fighting technique is definitely self taught. Nobody would ever lay a hand on him if he had been given any training what so ever. How could anyone as slow as Titan ever hit someone who is faster than a speeding bullet?

CK is the best. Soon he will be ready to be "Man of steel"-It is no accident that this is his name, when he came for the fight against Lois. And what can i say for the combat between Kane and Clark-great fight.

Man, this episode was downright awesome. The fight was spectacular, and Clark showed that when necessary, he can throw down. I want to see something even better when it's time for him to fight Doomsday.

The fight was surprisingly decent I thought when I first saw it. I was a little disappointed that the Superman-to-be was using his superpowers in anger and especially that it was anger over Lana's wedding with Lex. Still, quite a spectacle and, even as of Season Nine, there is no fight on Smallville to top it.

Watched it again last night. The fight was brutal and exhilarating, probably the best fight in Smallville's history with the one in Salvation being a close second. Loved the determined look on Clark's face when he said "my turn". Furthermore it's hard to resist Clark Kent in leather pants. That was a thrill in itself.:rotfl:

The best fight scene in Smallville. Clark deserved it and it was a blast from beginning to end. It's so awesome in so different levels. I also liked the little fight with Lois and Ashley!
I don't think S10 can beat in punches or brutality but I hope we get some sort of a fight that equals in epicness to what we saw in "Combat"!!
