I think in this episode things moved pretty fast. I think next season might be the last one. Now Lana, Chloe and Clark know about his secret and how much story is left?
I thought Lex killing the Doctor was a very good turn for him. I think Lana's days might be numbered and her character might not make it to the last season. I mean look at her situation, she stuck with crazy Lex and if Lex kills Lana in a jealous rage about Clark that will be something.
I wonder about Lionel wanting Lana to marry Lex. Could he actually have good motives because he might know Clark's destiny?

I also believe that the seventh season will be the last season, sadly. As for Lionel's intentions, there are already speculations going around that he's: 1. Good, and blackmailing Lana into marrying Lex to help Clark move on with his destiny and keep Lex from changing into an evil b..or 2. Bad, and actually has evil motives with his knowledge of Clark's secret.

As interesting as that would be - Al said the 'big three' are off limits when it comes to killing off characters...

I don't think its necessary to kill Lana. I think it's very tragic, but poetic to have Lana quietly harboring Clark's secret but never letting him know that she knows. It also serves as good material to draw from to show how ruthless Lex is, for instance he can start to manipulate and torture his own wife once we suspects she is hiding something from him

Or it's just for leverage over lex. Lex will do absolutely anything for the lana who loves him...if she leaves him willingly, he'll get over it and be a threat to lionel. You have to keep the weakness there to take advantage of it.
Or he could be good...but that's doubtful. My theory is the mane of hair is evil and it's certainly back.

How can Lionel be good if he used the threat of killing the sole individual who saved the fate of the world against Zod in order to persuade Lana into marrying against her will a son who he, himself, regards as a threat to humanity?
cause, Reign, what would lex be willing to do to clark to get even with him? Oh yes, ANYTHING. Think about it.
Reign

I have thought about it. But what's that have to do with Lionel being evil or not?
You're saying: If Clark gets Lana, then Lex gets even. If Clark does not get Lana, then Lex does not get even. Lionel is protecting Clark by not letting him get Lana. Protecting is good. Therefore, Lionel is good.
Think about it. That train of thought doesn't factor Lionel's alterior motives. The jux of the question lies in whether or not he has alterior motives. It also does not factor in the possibility that Lana may not be able to hide her feelings forever.
What would those alterrior motives be? For now, all I can see is obvious, he is doing Jor-Els bidding. If he really had an alterrior motive, don't you think he'd play his royal flush and done what lex did as Alexander? Slip on a green ring and totally controll clark?
Reign

Can't do that, cause he wants Martha. He has to be more subtle. Lex also has the greater share of LuthorCorps and knowledge of 33.1's location. Lionel isn't quite sure of what he wants from Lex now that he has power over him again... he wants Lana as his trump card. I guarantee you that we will see the return of the manipulative Lionel.
My sense is the alterior motive for now lies in the unborn child. I'm almost certain Lionel has an interest in the baby. What seems obvious to me is not obvious to you... and what seems obvious to you is not to me. I suppose only time will tell.

There is still alot of things that can happen in the show and remember it will stay on the air as long as it is popular. If the show is making money for the producers and for the CW they will not end a show that makes them money. Of course they might have to change some things since the actor's ages are catching up with them that they have to be treated as young adults now. So they will have to maybe start thinking of showing more of Superman coming out in Clark.
Perhaps threat by Lionel to kill Clark was that he did know Clark's future isn't with Lana and the only way for Clark to move on was to force her to marry Lex by threatening to kill Clark. He knew Lana most likely doesn't know everything about Clark but Lionel does. He knows if Lana would tell Clark that he threatened to kill Clark that with the knowledge of this threat Clark can harm or even kill him from a great distance not giving Lionel a chance to use kryptonite against Clark.

Well the big three are like someone has already stated, off limits. Plus Lana survives in the comics and pretty much all the comic characters survive, though Jonathan is still alive in the comics todya, they only seem to kill him in a few movies.
Anyway I'd like to see SV Lana die believe me comic book Lana is much better .
BUt their is little chance of Lana dying but I like how she's stepped up a little to pay back Clark by protecting him.

Since everyone's contract is up after the 7th and most have made it clear that are going on the other things, why woudl anyone think there would be more than 7?
Baring some huge event that is.

Actually in one of his most recent interviews he said that only Clark, Lois, and Lex are safe. All bets are off when it comes to the others.

I believe "Promise" was, quite simply, the greatest episode of the entire series and therefore a true TV classic: partly because no other episode has had such monumental, series-shaping events; partly because these events have such deep emotional consequences; partly because they pave the way for a whole new arc of compelling stories; partly because many of us have been hoping for six years that Lana would finally and definitively learn the full truth about Clark (not only about his powers but also about his noble motives for keeping his secret); and partly because it was masterfully structured, written, and acted.
And it was a classic above all because it creates one incredibly powerful story line: Lana making the ultimate sacrifice, marrying a man she now knows to be a monster and breaking the heart of the man she actually loves because she believes it's the only way to save Clark's life. After nearly six years of Clark protecting Lana (and the world), Lana is basically throwing away her own life in order to save his. What a breathtaking, moving new direction in which to take the show.
As to the theme of this thread: yes, I believe it does mean "Smallville" will conclude with its 7th season. (There had certainly better BE a 7th season!!) This turn of events does open up a number of potent new stories, but once they play out, the end will be in sight. After all, we knew from the beginning that two things had to happen by the time "Smallville" concludes: Clark had to be ready to go out into the world and accept his destiny, and Lex had to complete his journey into evil. The latter has already happened (the only thing remaining is for the entire world to discover the truth about him); the former is getting ever closer. If "Smallville" ends after seven amazing seasons, I'll be totally satisfied.

Have you forgotten all the times Lana told Lex she loved him and yelled at Clark telling him she didn't know how she could possibly love him? This girl's memory of who she loves and doesn't love changes hourly.

That is so true. Sad to say but Smallville is turning the corner and heading to the finish line.
It will be Clark's time to be Superman very soon.

A legitimate point. But I believe that all the times Lana said that to Clark, it was primarily out of hurt and anger that 1) he had ended their relationship and 2) he was keeping all the secrets from him. Now that she knows the full truth, the hurt and anger are gone, leaving behind the feelings for Clark she always had.

I'm finding it harder and harder to see that Lana is going to survive. For a while I thought she could move on. But they've been drilling it so hard into us that Lana is "the one", the love of his life, that they either have to have them end up together or kill her. They can't just forget about each other if they're as "in love" as TPTB seem to want us to think, though I've never seen anything between them that implies anything other than lust.
Anyway, they really can't legitamately end up together. It's just too big of a change. So I'm thinking they have to kill her.
Lana in SV is essentially a made-up character anyway, so it would be much less of a change to have her die than to have her end up with Clark. And I can't see that it is the intention of TPTB to have us forget about her--they've done too much buildup.

I dont think she will die, because she has to revisit Clark as an adult in Superman 3, remember? LOL.

Exactly, I think they are setting it up for Lana to die. All signs point to Lana being killed by Lex or his father to protect Clark and then Clark finding out before the series end and killing Lionel. I actually think Lionel will kill Lana and when Clark finds out he will kill him. The bad blood between Clark and Lex will reach high levels before he goes to Metropolis. What if Lionel kills Lana when he finds out exactly what she's about to give birth to? It's alot of scenarios that can happen but all signs are pointing to a Lana death. She's stuck with crazy Lex and Lionel and the love between Clark and Lana is stronger than ever and will not just go away.

I highly doubt lana will ever be killed off the show. Lana has always been a crucial character in the mythos of superman.

Ok first things first. There will be a season 7. Nobody made it official that season 7 would be the last actually in an interview with Al gough / miles they did not rule out an 8th or more :)
I do agree that things moved pretty fast in Promise, if it were up to me I would have written the episode differently - All those dream sequences took precious time from the show. It was already established that there was maybe still feelings for Clark in previous episodes - I don't like the way Lana found Clark's secret :) And now that I think of it it makes sense why Lionel scared off Lana, I don't think he would have KILLEd Clark, but there again I would have done differently.

Lana is in several superman books i have read as well. She will not be killed off.
And no offense bro but the big three doesnt involve lois

big three?
I just hope they don't kill of Chloe! I thought they said that they wouldn't kill her off?
The chance of Lois being killed of... is extremely slim! I believe she does really end up being the real love of Clark's life, lol..

SV does not go by the comics, per se. It goes by common Superman knowledge, and things that are seen in more than one media (comics + movies + even Lois and Clark). Now which would be a bigger change, to kill Lana, whom most casual Superman fans who haven't read the comics may not even remember, or to not have him end up with Lois, whom everyone, even people who don't like superheros, know is Clark Kent's love?

Agreed.
If they show Tom/Clark as Superman at the end.

I think promise was poorly directed, i didnt like the style at all. By moving events around in time and displaying them out of order, they take away the impact of the scenes.
I was confused at first.
That said, I liked the episode, finally imleft with questions and not answers. For once the series isnt predictable.

they need at lease 2 more seasons if they really HAVE to end it becasue you can't rush the story line.....and the whole lois and clark thing How in the world can CLARK alll of a sudden just LOVE lois and stop lovin LANA after all 6 seasons of him bein in total love with her........it doesn't make any SENSE at all they set up the lana and clark love thing since the first episode.....

Exactly, Lana and Clark's love is stronger than ever. A tragedy is waiting to happen and being set up by the writers. I think it will end with Lana's death and Clark's leaving to Metropolis.

This could be the last season. Clark said he would start his training after all zoners were taken care of. How many are left? 2? 3? Things are wrapping up. Clark will get over Lana now and Smallville will hold nothing for him. He'll go to the ice cube and emerge 10 years later as SM, over Lana and ready for Lois.

Lex will turn totally evil in the last season with losing Lana after she and Clark find out the truth behind her baby.
The last season the writers will possibly allow Clark and Lana to finally have the relationship they both are longing for. They've been kept apart longer than any TV couple. Yet their chemistry is sexier than any other couple on TV. But that's what makes a great TV show.

Okay, I can believe the first part. But, we have to let go of CLANA. If it's the last season, then isn't Clark ready to move on to Lois??? Oh yeah.
