when clark told lana to look him straight in the eyes and tell him that she would rather be with lex than him, the first thing that came to my head was the episode in season 5 when lana told clark to look her in the eyes and tell her that he dont love her

That happened to me too. I thjought I was the only one who had that flashback to season 5 episode Hypnotic. The only difference was Lana was the one lieing and Clark was the one being hurt. :(

ROLE REVERSAL!
Sometimes it works, because it brings flashbacks to previous episodes.
Sometimes it doesn't, 'cause the viewer just wants the show to move on from the whole "tell me you don't love me" and the "oh I might never see you again" plots.

It's like they've run out of ideas so they have to recycle season 5 episodes.

I liked the role reversal. This was definitely a great part of the storyline, IMO. I like the whole dynamic of the main triangle right now. It's definitely got my interest.

And btw, this role reversal has taken place in the 16th episodes of season 5 and 6, so it seems obvious that the writers had this in mind when putting the story together- rather than them running out of ideas.

I just kept thinking "EAT IT CLARK!" But then again, Lex doesn't deserve this crap either. I can't believe I am going to say this, but Lana Lang - sorry, Lana Luthor is truely better off dead.
