He has super hearing and can hear peoples heartbeats, let alone super vision. How did he not notice someone else in the cellar with Chloe?

I was thinking the same thing, he needs to pay closer attention to his surroundings. First of all, he's in his so called enemy's home and his walking around like he lives there! He was using his powers like he was back at the farm, he should have been more aware of the fact that Lana was trying to find out his secret.

In every use of his powers, other than speed and strength, he has to focus his attention. X-ray vision, heat vision, and super hearing. He can hear a heart beating if he's trying to hear it - otherwise, it's just background noise that he blots out. Same with his x-ray vision.

He was focused on Chloe and what Chloe was saying to him.

Clark has to turn on his abilities. They aren't always active. He flips his inner switch. Anyone notice the mess-up with the super-speed away the second time? The motion was gone. Clark just vanished without a streak.

^^ I think that was done on purpose because they were showing it from Lana's point of view and apparently that's what the characters see when he superspeeds away. I kinda liked it. There was, however, an inconsistancy with whole thing because they showed the heat vision beams in Lana's POV, which I'm pretty sure aren't visible to the characters, or else somebody who wasn't supposed to would have seen him using it seasons ago.
