I think Lex would have given the final blow even if the guy didn't fall back to his death.

yeah but too bad no Lana for lex hehe
For sure. It's so ominous and ironic.
It's like a funeral (well, pretty quick burial by Lex if you ask me) and a wedding on the same day.

The comparison to the the baptism scene in the Godfather isn't so far off the mark then. No turning back this time for Lex, the bridge is burned and the whole works.

By his own hands for his own purpose and the guy really and truly died, yes, definitely it's the first. Before this he probably gets his goons to do it. Or when he shot Oliver, he didn't die because of Oliver got the healing drug. He had also shot Nixon to death in Vortex, but I believe he was doing that simply to save Jonathan at that time.
MR wasn't kidding when he said it would the darkest moment of Lex's life.

Holy f#(%ing @$$crackers!! Exactly what I was thinking!
Did Smallville suddenly get new writers or something?
I can't believe that episode!!!! I mean - the Luthors are straight up evil - I knew that already - but damn - all in one episode is a lot to take in!!!
I actually felt sorry for Lana - and that last look Clark had was utter defeat made me feel so bad.

see, i never really got the feeling in "vortex" that the sole purpose of Lex killing Nixon was to save Jonathon. I think part of it was so that the kents could never find out for sure that Lex had hired him to spy on them.
and just because lex has never killed someone himself in the sense, he has had horrible things done to people by people who work for him. thats like saying Hitlor was only a little evil becasue he never killed anyone himself, he always had someone else do it for him.
