I have to admit....the only thing going for the show with this long hiatus, is that the show is GOOD.....otherwise, a 2 month hiatus it would not survive.

Prison break did a 3 month hiatus....sucked like hell....that's why I'm glad shows like Lost and 24 took the hint that people HATE hiatuses, and HATE having repeats. Hopefully Heroes gets the hint for next season.

I think we can all agree that lengthy hiatuses are a bad thing for the fans. We miss our shows, and with certain shows viewer interest dies i.e. Jericho. But if they did not have them they would have to break up the season some other way because highly rated shows need to end during May sweeps. So the hiatus is a necessary evil unless they start making 30 episodes a season. I'd rather see a couple of four week breaks than one 10 week break mid season, or even several two week breaks.
10 weeks = too much time by the time the show gets back viewer interest is gone.

2 weeks = too many breaks and viewers lose interest because there would be gaps in storytelling.

I think Heroes has done a good job of spacing their breaks. Giving 8-10 quality episodes at a time and getting people invested in the story before the breaks so that once the break is over people are still chomping at the bit to see what happens.

And since they re doing reruns on Sci-Fi channel they are keeping the folks who can't go online to NBC Rewind exposed to the series too.
Hopefully they will rerun on the NBC network as well.

When a series is as well done as Heroes, people (like myself) will return.
Several series have long hiatus periods, Monk, The Dead Zone, The 4400 and Kyle XY for example.
I am waiting for the last two to come back, but I know it will be several month before they come back, and Monk just had the season finale.
