Summary: Seniors at Hogwarts, Hermione has decided to let Harry know she’s worth seeing as more than just a buddy!
Hermione Granger wasn’t stupid. She knew what the others thought of her while living in Hogwarts all the years she did. She wsn't seen as anything but a bookworm who had no friends and wasn't likely to be anything but a nuisance. It wasn't true, but that was how a lot of them thought.
Eighteen and ready to graduate, Hermione saw Harry studying for his finals across from her, in the library. The room was deadly quiet. Nobody dared to say a word because Professor Snape would box their heads together and make them wish they hadn’t. It was rather comical, actually, Hermione thought, because the boys in this school never headed to it.
Looking at Harry again, Hermione knew in her heart that he was a true wizard. Another time of just sitting here and not taking in her work because lately she was thinking and watching Harry, Hermione thought, but didn’t’ care. She was so close to gaining her cap and gown and diploma that she saw this time as time to spend as she pleased. She wasn’t really stressed – although she knew that tonight she’d be up extremely late because it was in her to be ridiculous in studying even when she didn’t have to.
Finally getting his attention, Harry looked at Hermione and said, “What? What is it?”
Hermione blushed and said, “Nevermind! I was just watching you…toying your pencil…don’t you know it’s a terrible habit?”
Harry rolled his eyes and said, “No, I never knew that. Anyway, we’ve got to stay busy.”
Hermione huffed, “I know…” But she wasn’t in the mood to study. She wanted to watch Harry, dang it! It wasn’t just a crush that she had on him, it was a warmer feeling in her heart. Seven years of living in this place with him, risking her life with him so many times. Researching together on projects. Sneaking into places that they weren’t supposed to go to. Then watching as Harry became a Tri Wizard and seeing how brave he had become from that experience. How much he grew from it. That was four years ago and he’d continued to adopt an independently daring personality that Hermione found interesting…and she liked him. She knew it inside her. She’d known it for a long time, but dang it he’d been too blind to see it! Her crush on Ron had long gone away and he had met another girl, named Suzy. Hermione had still been too nervous to tell Harry that she thought about him, that she liked him, in this way. Instead, she acted silly, as if she wasn’t eighteen…as if she was still fourteen and wishing he’d ask her out!
Her hand on her books, Hermione pretended to be working, but was really watching as Harry flipped through notebooks and took more from his texts. Dang it all, she was strong and daring too! Hermione decided that she was going to put on her strategy hat again, but this time she was going to use it on her best friend in the world…a true wizard…she wondered if he’d be brave enough to shirk her off when he saw just how she felt. Hermione smiled as she watched Harry frustratingly digging in his backpack for another pencil…

Chapter Two
Hermione sneaked out past the hours when they were supposed to be in their rooms for the night. She'd already studied in advance for next week's finals...so this was purely over-anxiety - that and a wild want to do something she shouldn't before graduation.
Walking over to Harry's room, Hermione knocked. Harry walked to the door and whispered, "Who is it? It's after midnight."
Hermione looked around in the dimly lit hall, only small egg-shaped lights were on the walls. She whispered back, "Harry, it's me, Hermione."
Harry opened the door and looked at Hermione with a strange look in his eyes. His hair was a mess and his glasses were pushed on, she could tell. Harry must have been in bed. Hermione said guiltily, "I'm sorry! I didn't mean to...I can just come back by tomorrow...Goodnight Harry."
Harry stopped her though saying, "Hermione, wait." Pulling her back, he said, "I'm awake and can't sleep anyway, come on in. But be quiet, Ron's sleeping."
Hermione walked into the room behind Harry. She whispered, "I'm sorry, Harry, I just can't sleep...and truthfully, I just wanted to do something I shouldn't."
Harry turned and smiled wickedly. He brought Hermione to his bed. Sitting on it together, Harry said, "Senioritis, you, Hermione?"
Hermione shrugged and said with frustration in her voice, "Maybe. Why can't I have moments like that? Just because I study potions that doesn't mean I'm a bookworm all the time."
Harry slid his hand to Hermione's and said kindly, "I didn't mean it like that, Hermione."
Hermione looked around at the darkened room and was glad it was night time. She could be honest and not worry about others hearing or seeing her.
Hermione spilled out, "I guess I'm going to have to be honest. Harry, I came in her tonight because I'm tired of being what everyone here at Hogwarts thinks I am."
Harry smiled and said, "And what is that? Hermione you're a brilliant person..."
Hermione smiled largely and said, "Thank you, Harry...but that's my point...I'm...frustrated! I can't stand that I've gone here all these years and ...( thinking of Harry) people don't know how I feel."
Harry asked, "So...tell me. How do you feel, Hermione?"
Hermione looked into Harry's eyes...and she remembered that Harry's ideas of her were totally platonic and never would expand to anything else. To him she was just another student at Hogwarts. Right then, she didn't have the guts to say how she really felt about him.
So she got up and said, "If I told you, Harry, you'd probably laugh at me and tell me that I was being ridiculous. I'll just go and let you get back to bed."
Hermione walked to the door. Harry followed her, catching the wall before utterly falling on his face! The room was a total mess!
He caught her arm though and said, "Hermione, wait!"
Hermione turned and said, "Go to bed, Harry. I'll talk to you tomorrow."
Harry said, "Fine, but I want you to know something. I'd never laugh at you, no matter what you told me. You're one of my best friends, Hermione."
Hermione swallowed her own internal madness at knowing that this was why she hadn't said anything, because Harry saw her only as a best friend. She said quietly, "We're adults now Harry. We have different mindsets of what we're going to be doing after next week. And I'm wanting people to see me as a girl and not just a geek!"
Harry said, "Well I don't see you that way, Hermione."
Fine! He argued it, Hermione thought, she'd prove her point. Moving forward, she grabbed his pajama shirt and moving up a bit, she kissed Harry on the mouth.
Seeing him so quiet, Hermione said, "Goodnight, Harry."
Leaving his room, Hermione looked around, felt a tad nervous at his reaction in there, but mostly she was just happy to finally have kissed Harry Potter...
