that gun was the gun when hiro time traveled and picked it up wihen issac had his brain stolen.

OMG! I didn't realize. Nice catch indeed. So...I wonder how saving Claire from Sylar is going to effect the timeline. Will Isaac still get toasted? The intro of the gun actually shows us that that part of the timeline hasn't been effected.
Hhmmmm...the plot thickens.

I think Peter had to save her so that he would be able to foreshadow the nuclear explosion, and his direct involvement in it.
I think Simone´s death also plays a big part in that. Because now Peter not only got separated from the invisible guy who gave him some hope but also lost his girl.
On the otherhand Isaac is his desperation of saving the world and avoiding the future of his paintings is actually setting in motion the events which lead to the disaster.
Well Simone was in the vision so maybe they changed something now. Meddling in time is tricky.
