View Full Version : "Freak" and "Extinction"
Does anyone else think this episode mimics season 3's "Extinction"?
For one, it deals with the basic theme--are all meteor freaks bad guys? This heavy issue was a very big focus of "Extinction", and is brought up quite a few times here.
Also, Lana's lines in both are almost EXACT--"If you were meteor infected, it would be okay". Did she not say something strikingly similar to this in the end of "Extinction" after Van tried to convince her that Clark was a meteor freak?
And furthermore, the basic premise of one of the main characters actual being meteor infected is here--first Lex in "Extinction" with the white blood cells, now Chloe.
Anyone else notice this?

And the funny thing is that I'm 99% sure that the guy who played Tobias is the same guy who was Jake Pollen (Gill Boy) in Extinction.

 I think it was the haircut. He did look a lot like him, the resemblence was creepy. But no, I don't think that was the same guy. I'll admit that I thought the same thing at first, though. :p

hmmm interestin ur right,I wonder where I heard lana say those words before. And chloe bein a possible freak does remind me of lex sort of bein 1 back in s3.Nothin came of it and I'm bettin nothin will come of chloe, cause I doubt she's an actually meteor freak. But lex is bein cautious tho :D ,but now that u mention the similarities it does remind me of extinction alot jus switched the roles of chloe lookin into lex/lex lookin into her

The fact that we still have to deal with freaks sometimes bother me,especially this late in the game.

I was about to say the exact same thing. When Lana said those words I was thinking "Extinction" anyone?
I mean, I wonder if the writers actually expect us to believe that the characters have prior memories to previous seasons, and that maybe Lana would've remembered saying the exact same thing to Clark or the writers were trying to play it like this was all of a sudden a new thing Lana's realized, when in fact she's felt that way (officially) in season 3.
I hate how the show can go around in circles and retread.

Why were they killing them off? Was it because of the missing computer and that someone might link them to Luthercorp?

I agree.
So we know how Lana may feel if Clark were a meteor freak...
I wish the writers would explore the angle that she is anti-alien. And have her openly speak out against aliens especially to Clark so he can stop feeling so conflicted about shutting her out after all these years.

I'm not sure why they were killing them off. I don't know if they could be linked to Luthercorp. Presumbably the GPS tracking units would not be traceable back to Luthercorp. There could be a slight possibility that some of the freaks might regain their memory. So, if you are an evil guy like Lex Luthor, you might as well have them all killed as a precaution. For now, he is watching Chloe. But it really does make sense for Lex to kill her, too.

I have a theory on why he's killing them:

In all honesty do you remember exact conversations you had with people 3 years ago, I mean sure, some people do, but when there is so much more happening all around you, like there is with the characters on this show, you tend to forget the minor details.

I don't really think this was anything like Extinction, other than the basic concept of getting rid of meteor freaks

It wasn't Lex who was killing them, though, it was the Doctor. He was afraid he'd lose his career so he decided to kill them all off one-by-one to eliminate his connection...somehow. At least that's what I thought. I think he was just going a bit whacko from stress and went on a killing spree, it isn't like that's unknown in SV.

Her behavior in Extinction and her words earlier revealed her true nature, not saying it would be okay AFTER Clark assured her he was not differnet. The writers have admitted she is NoT someone who is accepting, that Reckoning was a retcon of Lana's character and I don't buy it for a second. She convinces herself perhaps and tried to convince others that she would accept someone who's different but her actions say otherwise. There's a benefit to Lana for everything she says or dioes or she won't do it.

I thought 'Extinction' was more like 'Hidden'. I didnt see the resemblance of Gillboy and Tobias.

With all of the meteor rock in SV, how is it possible that everyone isn't infected yet? What ever happened to the concept that kryptonite had zero effect on humans?

^Kryptonite has effects on many Superman villains.....could you imagine Smallville without meteor freaks?
