View Full Version : Is Lana really this dumb?

Ok, as a fan of Lana in the comics, I'm gonna get seriously annoyed if they make her much dumber. I mean, I'm actually starting to like her in Smallville (shivers) did I just say that?

Anyway, Lana should totally have Clark pegged as an alien at this point.

A: She knows Clark arrived vaguely around the time of the first meteor shower. She knew the kents.

B: She knows Clark is adopted, probably knows he "has no idea who his parents are"

C: She knows the kryptonians came with the second meteor shower

D: She knows the kryptonians were looking for someone on Earth (remember "I know where kal-el is"?)

E: She knows the kryptonians had at least super speed, super strength, and invulnerability

F: She now knows Clark is not a meteor freak

H: She knows Clark has exibited several abilities, she should have gathered super speed, super strength, and definitely invulnerability

I: Just to support that Clark is not a meteor freak, I believe they each have only had one power, correct?

J: She knows the stones with the symbols and the caves with the symbols were somehow connected or at least of interest to Clark

K: She should have recognized those symbols as the same of the Black Ship's core

This is just what comes right to mind, I'm sure I would notice more if I watched all the episodes with close calls.

I swear, if I get to Z before she figures it out, there'll be hell to pay...

heh...seriously now, is no one else noticing this?!?!

I mean, sure, we get the benefit of knowing everything, but for practically Lana's obsession, she doesn't give much intelligent thought to it.

It's bad writing. Anyways, the reason she should know is because of the Kal connection from season 3 to the Kal-el in season 5. She knew Clark's "nickname" was Kal, that's where she should have connected the dots.

to add to D, she has said before "What if someone came down in the first meteor shower and they've been here with us all along"

Seriously just bad writing. Lex and Lionel were suppose to be the smartest guys on the show and they couldn't figure it out. Especially Lex, since he clearly saw himself run over Clark.

Maybe Clark just likes people to figure it out on their own.

It's how it worked with Chole, and later how it will work out with Lois (Superman, not Smallville)

It's like a right of passage, a quest to show you aren't dumb. It's why he just wears glasses to hide his identity...

love is blindness.
How else could a guy with glasses, keep his secret from lois since 1939.

wow.....it seems really bad when you can almost get through the alphabet with all the signs that Clarks a little out of this world. lol

But I guess, Clark can be distracting when he bats those baby blue eyes around.......maybe that's one of his powers too lol.......eye candy.

The mere fact that Lana from the comics knew gives me some hope...but then again, so far AlMiles havent really cared about the comics.

Yeah your are right, but the writers don't want her to find out yet because then it would be kind of akward for her because if she's still with Lex would she tell him and how would they keep the storyline going.

I agree!!!

And it's not only about clark....I know that she is starting doubt Lex...but she is the only one that hasn't seen his evil side...and it's right there for everyone to see it!!

I'll bet she takes the bullet and gets the finger print off of it. Voila! She finds out Lex is lying to her, drop kicks him. Turns back to Clark, which sets Lex off to the really dark side of the dark side.

You can also add to your list about how in Rosetta she saw his family tree assignment with Kryptonian symbols on it and asked him "Is that your family tree?".

I just call this bad writing though. Hey, even Lex saw that family tree, stole it, scanned it, and has the scan nice & zoomed in his Clark obsession room (seen in Visitor when he takes Helen to see it).

I find it ironic that Chloe (Blonde) was smart enough to figure out Clark's secret while Lana (Brunette) can't put 1 plus umpteenth clues together.

xrayvision

Chloe didn't find out anything. She would not know had it not been for Alicia. Maybe she would have found by accident from being possessed by Dawn Stiles and waking up to see Jonathan using kryptonite to stop Clark, but otherwise, she wouldn't know.

Lana has had conflicting information about Clark, but she has apparently been researching Clark offscreen. Even after being told that he is not a meteor freak, she is still convinced that Clark has superpowers. She will soon consider the possibility that Clark is an extraterrestrial.

But the stupidity was overflowing in this episode. Tobias thinks that the guys sheparding him around are really trying to help the meteor affected people. Chloe does not want to upset Lana by telling her that Lex is evil. You know, it's better to just let Lana marry him and find out later that he is evil. Clark was especially dumb in this episode. After figuring out that Chloe was abducted, he just decides to forget about it and pretend it didn't happen. Luckily, Chloe had the sense to know that something needed to be done. Just another reminder that Clark Kent is still a long way from becoming Superman, beause that it is how Smallville is written. One step forward, two steps back. Er, make that three or four steps back.

My biggest miff is that she never wanted to know what Clark did with the stone she gave him. Never came up. How can that not drive her crazy?!

A bit off topic, but:
Oh, and don't forget, she now knows that he has her necklace from way back when. That alone should bug the hell out of her. Especially since he made a big deal out of showing her how much he knew it meant to her... I'm so glad they readdressed the necklace!

Actually, I can let Lana slide on the Clark stuff.

For me, I question Lana's intelligence when she continues on with this marriage to Lex. Its perfectly clear that she doesn't trust him. She seems to believe he could be involved in kidnapping people, and doing evil things to them. Everytime Lex can't see her face, her expression changes to an unhappy one.

I don't get why this girl is planning a wedding.

Lana knows something is up with Clark. She's got evidence but she also has evidence to the contrary. I wouldn't say she was dumb. Lex has also been in this situation yet has never figured Clark out and his is supposed to be a geneous with unlimited resources.

and yea, lana is retarded. someone smack some sense into this dumb b*tch

Chloe didn't figure it out, CrazyAlicia showed her.

Lois also decides that she loves Clark Kent not Superman and Clark later reveals to her that Superman and Clark Kent are one and the same.

Don't forget M or N, or whatever it is now...

When Lana gives Clark the blood-stained crystal in Commencement and tells him that she somehow knew it was meant for him.

I would consider that as part of the whole "clues she's been given to his secret".

man where past Z there way more clues, like the ship with krypto writeing the cave with writeing clark burning krypto writing on barn and grass, all things clark has been around and intrested in, and cant remeber what ep but someone even said to lana that clark is very special, lana knows chloe know something about clark, those r guy some i quickly though of but im sure we need to ditch the idea of ABC's and move over and use 123's haha theres to many to count shell find out

It's not that Lana stupid, it's that the writers forget what they write.

For the sake of argument, I would say Chloe was well on her way to knowing about Clark. I mean, Alicia proved it to her, but she pretty much knew.

The look Lana gave at the end of episode seemed to hint she at least is aware that Lex was lying to her. But yeah, Lana is not the sharpest tool in the shed on this show.

I have never liked Lana, in the comics, the movies, L&C and certainly not in Smallville. SHe is always portrayed as self-centered, manipulative, and often the same kind of snnopy girl we saw in tresspaass. Not a nice person and not too smart. No wonder Clark doesn't trust her and despite the retcon they've tried to shove down our throats since Reckoning, Lana has not been shown as a girl who would truly accept someone different, alien or freak, unless it was to her own personal benefit. Clark is smart to keep the secret. You did see how Lana ran to Lex and blurted out the info she's found out, right? Keep her in the dar. She cannot be trusted.

I can see like in the next episode or something where Lana will see Clark jump to the top of a building:

Lana: I saw you jump to the top of that 6 story building. Clark are you some sort of meteor freak because if so, that's alright.

Clark: What are you talking about that's, uhh, impossible, it must have been a, uhh, strong gust of wind that, uhh, blew me to the top of it or something.

Lana: OK

Lana will then later discuss the whole thing with Chloe and still not have a clue what's going on.

Lana was more than ever showing Clark that she's aware. The only reason she never totally put it together is that it would involve spending more than 2 minutes thinking about someone else instead of herself!

DayOfTheDead

Is this another trick question? ;)

But for real, why couldn't Lex, Lionel and Chloe, all smart people, find out Clark's secret on their own either? Or why Lois in the comics, movies, etc., doesn't just get that a pair of glasses and some under-roos worn on the outside, are all the separate her co-worker from the guy she has a crush on.

Because no one is supposed to know. It's an artifical conceit of the show to keep the draaahma of "will people find out Clark's secret!"

It's like in The X-Files, I was always frustrated by why Scully didn't believe in aliens when dude, the evidence was right there! I mean in the movie she is passed out and wakes up only in time to see some big hole behind her, but c'mon! What did she think made that hole? Or all those times with people with powers or ghosts and...sorry, getting off track with a pet peeve of mine. But suffice it to say that Scully was wicked smaht in The X-Files, but she somehow never saw or believed in aliens or anything, well until Mulder was gone and the conceit of the show changed from Mulder = believer, Scully = non=believer. On SV it's Lex = in the dark; had been Lana = in the dark. Chloe would have been w/out Alicia's interference, Luthor would have been w/out Jor-El's interference.

So Lana may be as my favorite LnC villian put it, galactically stupid not to get it about by Clark by now, but that just makes her like almost everyone else in the Superman universe.

Yeah, I agree. Although in all fairness, she only JUST found out that he's not a meteor freak. And I think when she was with Clark she was trying to just be patient and let him tell her instead of digging into him like she is now. I think the blinders have been off with her since she got with Lex. I am really hoping that now that she knows he's not a meteor freak she'll put the pieces together:
- He knew about Zod when no one else did...and Zod was somehow defeated
- He always avoided the subject of the ship
- I am kind of interested to see how the kryptonite necklace (now clear) might help her connect the dots too.
They've been making her a little smarter the past few epis...I hope they keep it up, I like her this way.
