That line made me chuckle though....who says that? You say 'Take the car' you don't say 'Take my Yaris' unless it's in a parking lot and you need to know what kinda car it is.

Oh well.....got to pay the bills somehow.....too bad it was Chloe who sold her soul ;)

Well you know all those purdy special effects you love? Those cost money alot of it. So more product placement = higher budget = more and better special effects

Pretty bad product placement but not as bad as what...last weeks episode I think, where Lana all of a sudden has a Sprint phone, and when the phone rang, the camera literally focused on the Sprint logo for a good 5 seconds.

Chloe's already mentioned the new Yaris this season when Jimmy layed a big kiss on Chloe at the Planet and she told him that they weren't in the back of her Yaris.

And no mention that Chloe got a new car this year, it just showed up all of a sudden in Wither.

I am hoping that we see Clark in the episode Crimson driving a concept 2008 Convertible Dodge Viper, and when we see both Clark and Lois walks into Lex's office saying "Lex, you should really drive a Viper it's so much better then any of your expensive car" or he'd probably say something a whole lot better then what i said.

Commercial Chloe strikes again! They even made her say that Clark "ran out of gas." :rotfl:

Don't forget the Old Spice Red Zone from "Jinx" and in season 4 everyone had Verizon phones.

All I know is that the Ford Fusion would whip a Yaris.

Smallville has not just became a really hot show but also became a sponsors for every commercials and ads alike.

Next on Smallville, Lex is sponsoring wigs for men

Yea and the first commercial during the preceding break happened to be a Yaris commercial.

I actually like the product placement because it gives me a good laugh, it's like they don't even attempt to make it subtle. The Yaris was pretty good, but nothing beats Acuvue!

The Yaris isn't so bad. Anything made by a non-US manufacturer pwns all! I would rather drive a Yugo than a Ford GT40 any day.

Edit: and LMFAO at the Lex-Wig thing. They could also do a Lionel Luthor hair salon..i mean, seriously, get a haircut! Hes a billionaire but he looks like a bum.

Yaris is made in the U.S., like most "Japanese" cars.

NoSoupForYou
01-25-2007, 10:23 PM
Nice display picture. Yeah, but it's designed in Japan and the company who makes it is Japanese. And most cars are made in the US, to boycott all US-made cars would be like living on Ramen for a year. Most cars are made in the US, just like how almost everything in my house NOT from Ikea is made in China or somewhere in Asia.

Don't forget the Pilot when Clark opens his fridge and we see all those Mountain Dews and Pepsi's. Not to mention him drinking milk and a big box of Honeycomb on the counter.

And lets travel back in time to the first Superman movie. In that one Clark eats Cheerios, Lois wears a Timex, and everybody watches JVC TV.

Maybe Supes could rent you ad space on the cape--the Daily Planet's just not cutting it :rotfl:

Thats why Ford lost $12.7 billion in 2006.
And Why hasn't Lex bought a wig? It would be a hilarious scene if Lana walks in on Lex in a bathroom trying on different wigs in front of a mirror.

Coyote
01-26-2007, 11:16 AM
It would be great if they had a scene where Lex is looking the mirror at his full head of hair and saying to Lana: "Thanks for telling me about Hair Club For Men, Lana. I feel so much better about myself these days that I don't even want to enslave and destroy the entire world anymore."

The whole line sounded fishy. Since when did Chloe care about driving a Yaris?

There has been a tremendous amount of product placement.

The Oliver Queen Chronicles on Sprint phones is pratically announcing it.

At least it wasn't as bad as last year with Ford product placement in Splinter and Solitude. For goodness sake, Lois spent 5 minutes detailing the features of her new car (Solitude).
Then Vengeance had the whole Acuvue placement which also promoted the Vengeance Chronicles online.
And let's not forget AOL from Hypnotic towards Oracle. "Join the hunt for Dr. Fine on america online!"

GottaLoveHotSuperHeros
01-28-2007, 02:34 PM
psch, I'm sad that it's Sprint, because I can't use it =[ but that's product endorsement, they need to pick a different phone network imo

can someone explain the Oreo thing to me please? what episode were they in?

TheoristMaximus
01-28-2007, 03:30 PM
You can't blame Smallville for the Oreo product placement, it was set up by the comics...

MM loves oreo's, always has, he eats them all the time in the comics, so blame them.

Incase anyone doesn't realize, just HAVING a car in the episode is product placement, it's more egregious to actually mention the car by name though of course.

The only product placement to REALLY bother me was the red zone placement during recruit and jinx, I think in jinx the camera actually sits on the image of Clark's deoderant for upward of 5 seconds.

I knew there was going to be a thread called "Clark, take the yaris" it was so shameless and who says that? you just say "take the car" but it was funny and well delivered, what else can chloe do? gotta get the funds from somewhere, right? beautiful eppy so gotta forgive them!

meteor_phreak
01-30-2007, 08:51 AM
i agree that it was awkward, but it was nowhere NEAR as bad as lois actually talking features when she ran that security stop in whatever episode that was. it called attention to itself, but at least it let you move on afterwards.

j03superbat
01-30-2007, 02:51 PM
Frankly, I don't know how you couldn't tell it was a Yaris. I don't mind the product placement at all - it'd be stupid if generic cars were used in movies and T.V. - but c'mon... it's a freakin' YARIS. I'm not going to confuse a Yaris with an Expedition - especially not when Yaris is flashed across the screen sublimally as you watch the episode.

After we finished watching the episode, my g/f went to look at the price of a Yaris, but she wanted the 4 door one, but I told her to take the hatchback, just like my Matrix XD~~

Haha, so true. And then the announcer said something to the effect of "Today's game brought to you by LuthorCorp...and OLD SPICE RED ZONE!!!!" And then there was a big ad for Old Spice in the audience too, if you look in the background.

To me though, the product placement has more of a comedic effect. It's like TPTB make it so obvious I can't help but laugh.

But hey, I guess if it means more money for more special effects etc., then its ok

The product placement isn't as bad as it is in Heroes. I swear every scene that Hiro has he has to mention the Nissan Versa.

Actually, I think that is not really a cheesy plug. He mentions that first because of his character being overly excited about things and the fact that the comic book descriptively showed that model of a car. Hiro is excited like a little child and so is more descriptive about things based on that excitablility. Hey, i bet Nissan enjoys it though.

Well, at least the Yaris thing wasn't as bad as the Lois Focus campaign. She spent quite some time destracting the guard with the whole, "Take a look at my Focus." Please. The line should have been "Hey there. I love a man in uniform. Watch me shamelessly bend over so you can stare down my shirt."

Product placements though I wished they'd be more suttle are hands down better then when they suck up tv time for a band to play.. Charmed was distrubing for that.. at least when it was on buffy they were slightly unknown and only given half attention.. I was so terrified when they opened the talon figuring at the end of every eppy we'd have to suffer through 3 - 5 minutes of constant montage or worse just watching the band.. I'd rather have a loft scene where they are selling products..

Anyone notice that in Nicodemus, when Lana is playing with the whipped cream, that the Reddi Wip logo had red tape over it? I why why the TPTB did that? Perhaps, RW didn't want their product to be advertised on the hottest TV show on the (then) WB.

Some people refer to their cars by their model. When I would refer to my old 1967 mustang .. I would regularly refer to it as .. the mustang. My moms refers to her focus as .. the focus - the flatbed desiel? the dodge (ok yeah thats the make but whatever). .

Maybe... she is the kinda person that refers to a car by its make.
Or maybe you should say "thank you Yaris for giving money to Smallville" and all Chloe had to do was say their name.
