This probably only applies to people not watching on the CW. Has anyone had trouble hearing the dialogue tonight? I'm watching on the A-Channel, and the background music is way louder than the dialogue, making it almost impossible to tell what they're saying without the volume cranked.

did anyone else have issues with the sound? (i'm trying to determine if it was my local CW affiliate or an intended thing?)
*The dialogue would fade down to where it wasn't audible... at certain points in clark's 'dream'*
(In western OH... dayton area.)... (looking for other affiliates that had issues.)

It was fine for me here in Chicago
It was okay for me here in State College, PA.
It was fine for me, I was watching it on A-Channel. The HUUUUUUMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM got kind of annoying, but it wasn't a problem for me.

Yeah, I had the same problem, I had to keep turning my volume up and down. I'm in the Pittsburgh area at the moment, so it could have something to do with close affiliates.

i had no ploblems when i was watching it.
I didn't have a problem hearing the sound - I did hear an underlying humm or what I supposed was some kinda music - but only during the scenes when Clark was trapped inside his mind - so I was guessing it was part of the overall effect.

Same problem watching the CW in Erwin, Tennessee. Could hear the hum but voices came and went.

ok, I know that many places had sound dropping, I know a guy in Florida that had the same problem we had in Ohio, but only during the dream sequence, it was clear here once he came out of it, I thought it was on purpose

The sound went out for a second here in Cleveland, OH. Not long, but it was annoying.

The music..if you could call it that..it definetly overpowered the talking! It was a very annoying hum..it made me feel kinda crazy!!

That background hum sound is incredibly annoying! Way too loud and it basically through the whole episode, at least while Clark is out of it. It's making me go crazy, I think it ruined the episode.

It's part of the episode, because when Clark woke up it stopped, it must just be louder on certain stations.

It was okay in BC. Or from where I live in BC.

best way I can describe the effect was that someone switched up the sound channels on a surround sound setting. (Left that hum in the front... and the dialogue kept fading in and out in intensity.)
The fact that it only happened in the 'dream' world made me believe it was intentional as well... but it seems that some did not have that happen to them. (I had to use the cc to be able to tell the dialogue of the episode when it'd drop out.) It also seemed that certain lines were punctuated to come through.. with again led me to believe it may have been intentional.
I'd love to have an answer from the producers about whether it was or not.

I watch AChannel too, and I didn't notice anything.
The background music was louder than usual, but I had no problem hearing dialouge. It was just during the dream, the "background music" (which sounded more like ominous ..breathing? I can't explain it) but I thought that was on purpose.
But I tend to watch Smallville VERY loudly, so I didn't notice much.

I noticed the same thing with the hard-to-hear voices here in OKC on KOCB. I'd have to rewatch to be sure, but the problem may have only been at the beginning of the episode.
If the audio thing was intentional during the dream sequence it didn't work for me, just made it hard to understand the dialogue.
The audio dropped out once for about a second that that may have just been a glitch with the local transmission.

In the LA area the picture stopped a few times while the voices continued.
I think the "hum" you all hear is Shelby's barking, that's why at the end of the dream sequence he thanks Shelby for saving him, and when he wakes up Shelby is still barking. I'm thinking he could still hear it with superhearing? Somehow the phantom wasn't able to completely disable that power?
Just a thought
I had similar problems with the audio on CW here in Spokane, Washington. It must be a problem with the network satellite feed?
