That actually seemed weird because didn't he also not tell Clark everything in the beginning about Belle Reeve. Which side is Lionel on??

Hopefully we'll find out in upcoming episodes...An Al Gough interview mentioned Lionel showing his true colors in the second half of the season. Oh and they really need to start hinting back at the "POWER" thing from "Zod."

I agree, also even though it seems like Lionel was covering for Clark, maybe he has plans for Clark that he doesn't want Lex involved in.

Clearly Lionel is playing BOTH sides, IMO. He's in it for himself, and has figured out that being everything that everyone wants him to be is the best way to do it. I'm betting that he gets caught in one too many lies later in the season and is outcast from both the Kents and Lex.

He's on the same side he's always been on - his own side. ;)

Yep, I had to disagree when Lex made that comment about Lionel missing things in his old age...

Lionel has his own agenda and he only knows what he really wants and is going to do. We knew all along that Lionel said that he would keep and protect Clarks secret so it wasnt a surpirse to me that Lionel lied to protect Clark, especially from Lex, Clarks biggest enemy. I loved the line that Lionel said to Lex, "dont you have other enemies to worry about?" or something like that.

I'm telling you guys in the end Lionel is the most corrupt. And it's gonna piss Lex of to the point where he offs Lionel maybe even this year. He dose have to take sole possestion of Luthor corp. And thats only happening with the death of Lionel

of course he is going to cover for clark
it probably isn't because he actually cares about clark
it could be because of that whole Jor-EL tie or more of a lust thing....martha kent

Yes, I too am at a loss as to what the heck Lionel is up to. It does keep things interesting. And I have to agree. The look on Lex's face as Lionel was describing his dinner with Clark and Martha. PRICELESS!!!

Yes Lionel was so believable that I even pictured the scenerio with him eating MK's pot roast. Eww creepy but so good.
In an instant just when Lex feels he has control of the situation Lionel pulls the rug up from under him everytime!!!

I LOVED that scene!!! The great details Lionel went into. I wonder if he told Clark to memorize what "he had for dinner" in case Lex calls.

i love it that Lionel is such a wild card. He's helping clark by helping himself to Lex and 33.1. And in the end he could screw them all.

Seeing the look in Lex's eyes was a double blow to lex because Lionel was covering for clark and stating he was having dinner with the kents....

could this be the breadcrumb that starts the final wedge between Lex and Lionel?

hmm =)

The question is- Did Lex know that his father was feeding him a line of bull? A part of me felt that Lex suspected that his father was covering for Clark and another part of me felt that he was just shocked to learn the Clark wasn't there. I am just not sure how to take his reaction.

It should be easy for Lex to verify whether Lionel, Martha and Clark indeed had dinner together, no? I am sure Clark's alibi will crumble sooner or later... And then: poor Lionel...

hehehe... "Martha made pot roast.. with new potatoes and TIIIINY little baby car-rots, it was delicious!!!" I was cracking up!!! Who in their right minds would say something like "TIIIIINY little baby car-rots"!??!?!? HEHEHEHEH

Who knows the behind the scenes plotline or scenes cut. Maybe Martha and Lionel did have dinner, and all they would have to do is tell Clark if it comes up to say on this date, he had dinner with his mother and Lionel. (I do have a hard time picturing Lionel eating pot roast though-more filet mignon). I wish Lionel was on more, I love his lies, its almost like a comical relief. I would like to see in a future episode Lionel taking Luthercorp over again and deciding he wants to live in the mansion and telling Lex to find his own place/job, its time to stop sucking off dad and take your bimbo with you.

He should fly Martha to Paris for a good meal, dammit.

PaulNeb

I think who cooked the meal added, or would have added to Lionel's enjoyment. We don't know if Lionel actually had dinner with Martha and just added Clark to the table or made the whole thing up.

I thought it was clever on Lionel's part. He deflected Lex's suspicions of Clark by hitting a nerve. All of them sitting together for a meal like a family and Clark seemingly taking the place of the son would paint an unpleasant picture for Lex.

01-19-2007, 07:55 AM
Yeah Lex gotta earful of "the family I always wanted". Shut him up real good...

I agree though about Lionel, he's most likely in it for something only HE can gain from...

I couldn't stop laughing about "TIIIIINY little baby car-rots" during my Algebra II midterm, and I started cracking up as quietly as I could, which does NOT work!! Then I thought about lex and how he wants a ponytail, and I imagined him as a samurai with that long ponytail thing but no other hair, and I was giggling even more!!!

01-19-2007, 09:44 AM
he's been covering for clark since he found out his secret. i'm not even sure this is the first lie he's told lex. he said stuff before, i think in the episode when lionel and martha were trapped in the elevator. I like lionel playing the middle, and i agree he's one of the best characters on the show.

but i do think lex knows he was lying. just let it go until he figures out why. sometimes playing stupid is a big information grabber.

GooN
01-19-2007, 09:45 AM
i don't think lex knew he was lying, i think he was so mad at the fact that his dad was having a family dinner without him that he didn't even think about that,......which im sure is the reason Lionel made up THAT story.

Ticket2theMoon
01-19-2007, 09:48 AM
Lionel is soooo smooth, any time we can have an episode with him is fine with me. I think one reason he would've kept what he knew from Lex is that as long as he knows about Clark and Lex doesn't, he has something over both of them. That's a prime piece of information, and he's not going to let Lex have it before it can be useful to him. Part of me wants the good Lionel to win out because I like him so much, but where would the fun be in that?

As for the excellent quality of his dishonesty, I'm reminded of the quote from Gone With the Wind (in your best Scarlet O'Hara impression): "What a cool liar you are, Mellie."

I think LIonel is on Clark's side and has been since he was possessed by Jor-EL. But I also see an unhealthjy curiosity in him to know more about Clark and the alien connections. He is probably the one who put Chloe and Clark onto the 33.1 problem. If you remember, he came to see Chloe about her getting dirt on Lex. Of course, he's in love with Martha, but is afraid to go further with that just now for fear of losing her.

I also think that Lionel is deeply concerned about Lex's thirst for power. That was the reason he gave for helping with Jonathan's campaign. While I think he's always out for Lionel first, I also think that he is trying to keep an eye on Lex and possibly some control over him. Wish him luck on that one!

Actually I saw this as being resolved. Lionel figured the black box was power and wanted it destroyed and helped Lana pass Lex's test and now it is gone.

And yes, since Jor-el's connection with Lionel was lost, I feel Lionel is slipping, but for now he's playing both sides. He desperately wants to protect Luthorcorp being his baby and all, but also wants to protect Clark from Lex who he sees as no good.

I'll probably get yelled at for this but--anyone consider the possibility that maybe Lionel wasn't lying about Clark--and that it was actually the Martian Manhunter disguised as Clark.

I mean it would actually be a good setup for the upcoming episode.

I'm saying is that if it was a lie, then it can too easily for Lex to find out opposite.

Though I doubt the writers would ever consider that.

The Kents are not Lana. They are the salt of the earth type workers who don't do extravagent things. I would love to have Martha's cooking. Yum!!! I wonder if he even joined her for dinner or if she was by herself. If he did, I'm surprised there was enough food after all the stuff Bart ate.

I never realized that Bart ate a lot in Run also (though not as much as in Justice). I now remember his starving comment when he grabbed that cookie. I remember Barry Allen in the 1990 Flash show ate a lot due to the massive calories he burned up. Man, I loved that show.

I was thinking something similar, but Martian Manhunter as Chloe. If next episode, Chloe would have no recall of any of the stuff in Justice, then that would be cool since MM would have been part of the team. It would also explain how Chloe knew how to operate that satellite. MM seems like he's been on Earth for a while and has picked up a lot on technology since his race probably had much more complex technology.

All he has to do is show a photo of Clark to the guy who gave him Clark's description. I wonder what his next action would be. He would definitely know that Lionel is covering for Clark and probably knows his secret.

I think Lionel is on clarks side

he is just trying to fix the whole "father son" thing with lex. and is trying the only way he knows.

but other than just trying to mend that relationship, he is on clarks side
