Don't get me wrong, I love to read fantasy filled Fiction books, but I sometime get the urge to read about real events. True occurances can be very interesting, so that is why I am making a suggestion thread for these books!
I recently read The Massacre at El Mozote and it was very shocking read for me. It dealt with an incident in El Salvador in the 1980s where a whole villiage was murdered for a political statement. If you enjoy history, you will enjoy this. (there are US connection to this event...and not good ones)
Any one have any other favs...like true crimes, etc?

Mein Kempf was actually a good read, and it's nonfiction. If you like historical texts, find old books written by Napoleon. :]

I like old texts to a certain extent. I can only read them in increments for they give my brain a very large ache ;) due to the use of language. I want to finish Helter Skelter, since I never got to finish it and maybe re-read the autobiography of Malcolm X (explains what his views were and why they were like that...very smart gentleman he was.)

There were other stories of Malcolm X, as well as MLK, that they were womenizers, 'pimp' if you will.

Malcolm X could of been when he was younger..I know he was with a white woman for a while, but after he followed Elijah (spl?) He wouldnt have been. Elijah's womanizing is what broke him from the Nation of Islam (Malcolm disapprovale/him feeling betrayed and lied to) and ultimately his murder.
MLK I am not too sure of, he could of been, but I dont know.

Totally off of the History text subject, I am curently reading Lucky by Alice Sebold. She is the author of The Lovely Bones (which is going to be made into a movie by Peter Jackson), but Lucky is about her experience of when she was raped. I was apprehensive with the subject matter, but her writing captures your attention and so far I really am enjoying the book.
