View Full Version : Did Justice make you want a JLA spinoff?

Did watching Justice (after it airs) now make you want TPTB to create a Justice League of America spinoff? Do you want the same characters & actors portraying them? Do you want to see certain heroes cut and different ones added? Which ones. Discuss here.

It's going to depend on how many times AC says "Bro."

Yup. Put those 4 in a series, and add a supporting cast and they have a ratings winner.

I wasn't screaming for a Justice spinoff before this, but after this episode, holy crap YES!

ETA - One problem, I think one of the things that made it great was Chloe as Oracle. Without her, it might not work as well. And Clarky-boy definitely brought a lot to it. I dunno if I wanna watch a JL spinoff without Clark, but man it'd be great to have one with him.

A little history........

The "Golden Age" JSA [back in the 1940's] had all of the DC heroes together, but the big 2 [Superman and Batman] came and went either as they pleased, or when a case needed their skills.

A "Justice League" series with those 4 guys, plus Clark making a recurring appearence would work wonders. We don't need him every week, just maybe once a month or so if the case warrant it.

I hope and I pray that the powers that be at the CW take notice of this and start the wheels in motion to start up a series. With "Smallville" in its stretch run we need another action series to balance out the CW's estrogen-laden schedule.

This was definately a test episode for a live action JLA series. Not sure if they would try to work it for next season as a replacement for SV or to run along with it if SV goes into a 7th season.

I WOULD DEFINITLY WATCH A JUSTICE LEAGUE SPIN OFF!!!!!!

Even if it’s a show abut the JLA without Clark, that‘s fine with me. When the show ended and Clark said he can’t join the JLA just yet, I was really disappointed. I said to myself “Who cares about watching Clark fight more and more made up Phantom Zone villains? I’d much rather watch episodes about these JLA members!”

I just really want to see a JLA show next season. I’d be so psyched if it really happened.

Would a JLA show be instead or in addition to a 7th season of Smallville? Honestly, as long as Clark isn’t wearing the costume, I don’t care….. I’m really beginning to lose interest in an endless show about Superman before he becomes Superman.

Yes. I want to see the next episode of Justice. No. I wouldn't change the actors. If anything add an actor. A guy to play J'onn J'onzz MMH. I'd hold off on the actor in next weeks episode until I see him in the part.

A series might be hard though. If the stories are done right and followed a main arc throughout it could work. Im sure some will make comparisons to Heroes. Which is fine. I just want to see the comicbooks come to life. I want to see the guys/gals in costumes flyling around saving the day. Base some of the series off comic storylines. Bring those comics to life. Im sure everyone has their favorite comic storyline. Now just picture that live action oriented. It rocks huh? LOL.

I say it did. You could have CK go off for his training for most of it's first season. Then have him come back as the full SM (maybe not in the suit tho but still SM) in the final ep of the 1st season of Justice to join the others.

With all of them in it they could carry a season by themselves. Then think of the huge publicity(sp) it'd get when CK comes back.
So I say HELL yeah spin it off.......

Heck, why not end Smallville this season and next season do a Justice League series including Superman (TW is probably ready to move on, so Superman would have to be recast - maybe
Brandon Routh?)

I agree….. At this point, I wouldn’t care about Smallville being cancelled if that meant a JLA spin-off.

Tom Welling has repeatedly said he refuses to ever wear a Superman costume, so the JLA spin-off would need to be without Superman…… But that’s fine. If you have Green Arrow, Aquaman, Martian Manhunter, Cyborg, the Flash, and add another hero or two, that’d still be great! If Welling changes his mind and says he’s willing to put on the Superman costume, great! He can also be a regular on the JLA show. But they could do just fine without him.

Singer was a big disappointment to me. I fell asleep on SR and it couldn't end early enough. TPTB were the 1st to have the balls to involve other heroes in a live action Superman show/movie, so they should be the one who reap in the rewards.

As for me, I would watch it since there will be no Chloe involved. That was the biggest turn-off for me.

1) Singer did a fine job with SR. Anyone who didn't feel interested in SR was looking for tons of action. Me? I'm more interested in some good old fashioned superhero plot
2) Singer nor Routh would ever do a TV show Superman
3) I'm not so sure about Welling turning down a spinoff, at least in the end. He might resist for awhile. He said in an interview he thinks it would be really interesting to see the League working "in the city"

I love SV but TW needs to realize that this is it for him as far as his career goes....he'll never live down the Clark Kent role....too bad he doesnt get any American Express commercials or something...he's not making his mark for a lead role portraying the man who'll become Supes. Or people aren't recognizing him for it...

But then we'd prolly get a backlash here against some new form of the suit. But it may be the key to spinning off the JLA and pleasing TW.

TW is a good actor for the amount of experience he has but if he thinks he's the next Johnny Depp he's mistaken. Plz Tom stay where ur bread is buttered.

I thought Superman Returns sucked. The plot was stupid. All Singer did was re-use the same ideas from Superman: the Movie, and also create new ideas that were just plain stupid.

Brandon Routh made a surprisingly good Superman. But he wasn’t enough to save the movie.

If there’s a JLA spin-off, it would either need to have Tom Welling as Superman or no Superman at all…… Welling has meant enough to Smallville so he can’t be replaced.

It would be horrible without Clark/ Superman. Just like Smallville episodes without Clark are horrible.

I think they need to work on making Smallville a good show. The JLA should visit Smallville sometimes just like they have in the past.

They already do not focus enough on Superman/ Clark the way it is. They hardly show his powers or let him save people compared to prior seasons. I really miss watching Clark throw people around, lift heavy stuff, and superspeed. And I really miss those high jumps from last season.

I think it'd be neat if they made him a pre-Superman suit, the way Bart has a pre-Flash suit. Bart is definately my favorite JLA member. I'd love to see him visit again.

Can you tell I'm a Superman fan?

Yes, but with budget restraints, the overall product wouldnt be very good because with a JL show, youd need alot of special effects and fights IMO. But it would be awesome if they could pull it off and id watch it.

Id love to see a JLA spin-off dealing with the whole 33.1 army. How kickin would it be for Smallville and a JLA spin-off to coincide with the same main season plot. Little hints can be thrown in each show to keep up continuity wise with the other; then you can throw down with a HUGE 2-parter season finale with the two finales directly intertwining with a final take down of 33.1. Thatd be amazing. A JLA spin-off in general would be amazing but I just think it would be smart to play off the 33.1 story due to how much this Justice League was into preventing this superhuman army/war.

I hope so too. But if he’s a bad actor, no problem - Al & Miles can easily pick another actor for the next episode Martian Manhunter appears in….. Martian Manhunter is a shape-shifter, after all.

I don't understand Tom Welling's attitude on the costume. I just ordered and am watching the live action series of Sailor Moon in straight Japanese, with the actresses talking in Japanese, and not one of them had a problem wearing the Senshi outfit and displaying 'very good fighting skills' to say the least the way they did flipping moves in the air. I don't see why Tom is squawking about a Superman outfit, maybe he should watch the other version of 'Justice League' in the Sailor Moon series to learn about being a hero instead of a pretender. Tom has to have the character embrace the legacy of Superman like each of the Senshi embraced her legacy, not have Clark continuing to run away from his potential and putting the world at doom! We need to have a Superman, Tom shouldn't look down at the person he is playing. Dean Cain looked great in the suit, why not Tom? Somebody needs to put Tom in a Superman suit to see how he looks.

As I was saying in another thread, It'd be so awesome like in the Season finale if u have a shot of Lex standing on this balcony inside a warehouse and down before him all alligned in almost military formation u have like 50 to 100 33.1 Freaks all looking up at Lex as he makes a speech about choosing them to be the heroes of this planet to fight against the true terrorists: the Justice League. It'd be an early version of the Legion of Doom.

Then maybe later on, like somethin out of X-men 3, u'd have like Clark, Aquaman, Impulse, Cyborg, Green Arrow, Martian Manhunter, and Angel of Vengeance all standing in a line beside each other before Lex's army of Super Freaks. That'd be sweet

I mean when Zod came out all they did was put Lex in a trench TPTB didn't go over board on any1 elses costume I wonder why TW would think the SM suit would be overboard and corny. I liked Chloe's codename of "Watchtower", although judging from a recent intrview with Allison Mack, I doubt she'd be willing to play Chloe as-is for another whole series (she seems to be getting a little restless after almost six years - well, wouldn't you?).

As for the possible series itself, I'd love to see itm, so long as they kept all the actors from "Justice" on a regular basis. I loved the banter between Aquaman and Cyborg: "Put on a shirt, man!" I laughed my head off at that. The dynamic between Oliver & Bart was cool as well. You can tell that Impulse really hates taking orders, but deals with it for the better of humanity.

A spinoff would be good and I'd watch it. I don't imagine you would ever get TW to be in it on a regular basis unless the money was dropped and kept dropping in his lap. If they did do one, I hope that eventually you would get more heroes added to the show and it would become like the JL cartoon, where you can have a revolving door of heroes each week.

^^That is what I also think. I think putting the first 12 minutes on yahoo was another sign that they want as many people as possible to see this episode. I like the Justice League and the characters & actors that were in Justice, but I want it off Smallville and on its own show since it made Clark look bad. So, I definitely want such a show. I do however want them to fight fierce challenges and not just roll over the villians as they did in Justice.

I also think adding Martian Manhunter would be great. But one thing I would advise TPTB is to take their time to make one. Maybe introduce it halfway in the next TV season (maybe air it while Smallville is having a break from new episodes). They need to set it up right so it can be successful and not rush into it. And they should take a lesson from Supernatural and eliminate the angst since angst in a show about a superhero team would suck and drag it to its death.

I'm wondering--what would be a cool location for the JLA in the JLA spin-off? Star City?

Also, would you like Michael Rosenbaum to appear every now & then as Lex? What about other freaks from Smallville?

STFanatic
01-21-2007, 03:11 PM
Star City would be OK.
Star City was briefly mentioned by Lex Luthor in the Smallville sixth season episode "Reunion", so it is in the Smallville universe.
In one 1970s reference, it was stated that Star City was in Connecticut. Currently, northern California has been settled upon as its location, specifically in the coastal regions north of San Francisco Bay.
So that would make it easier for the "Team" to be filmed near hollywood, of course it will really be filmed in Canada cause it is cheaper.

xrayvision
01-21-2007, 04:35 PM
Did they say that Star City is in Kansas in Reunion? I thought Lex said he's a couple of cities away from his home.

I definitely think that if the spin-off does live to production, that Black Canary will show up as GA's love interest as she is in the comics. I think she's also from Star City.

I wonder if Nightwing would be allowed. I know they said no Bruce Wayne/Batman, but does that include Dick Grayson's Nightwing ID (as long as it's not Robin)? It would be weird having Grayson on without or before Batman and without the prior history of being Robin.

What I would think would be awesome is if they could have Jason Todd as Red Hood II. Having a member of the team who has no problem killing criminals to prevent them from striking again would create tension and result in interesting episodes. That is what intrigues me so much of what the future is between Batman and Jason Todd in the comics. I don't think Jason Todd will ever be in a movie, so Warner Bros should definitely be fair and allow them to use him if they want (as long as he's Red Hood or some non-Robin character). Something tells me that if/when they do a sequel to Batman Begins, it will be about the Joker since we saw the Joker card at the end of BB. And before he becomes the Joker, Jack Napier may appear as the Red Hood, so maybe they won't let them use the Red Hood ID. I'm not sure.
