View Full Version : Hydro Proved we don't need Lionel & Martha

I didn't miss them one bit. Martha should stay on the farm and disappear from the show and Lionel should die a particularly nasty death. We're moving the show to Metropolis and now we have Jimmy Olsen and Clark and Lois are tolerating each other and Chloe and Lois are advancing in their journalism careers. It's time to say goodbye to Lionel and let Lex be the heavy. The scene with Lionel being Martha's date at the Thanksgiving table was the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen on this show with the exception of the FOTW that tried to eat Pete.

We don't need Lionel? Lionel is the best character on the show. He is still and will always be the master MB. He wouldn't put up with the crap Lana is giving Lex. His dealings with the Kryptonian symbols is the most interesting thing, and the thing they spent no time developing. Who knows how much suspense they could generate by giving us small hints of what's to come. I'm hoping that Lionel is building the Eradicator.
I don't want Smallville to be without adults. It's ridiculous like that. Just another teen soap opera. Might as well change the name to One Tree Ville (or Several Cows Ville).

Sorry galatians221 I have to disagree with you as Lionel sure is needed in Smallville. There is definitely something planned with his character as he wrote down the word Power in the episode Zod yea? Maybe he is still feeling Jor-el's presence?
I think Clark would be lost without Martha and sure has missed Jonathan Kent! Lionel will never replace his father, try as he might though.

Well, all actors in Smallville are adults. ;)
I could definitely do without Martha Kent because I don't think that she has anything important to offer to the plot at the moment ...

I am surprised that we haven't seen any Mionel recently. I thought AlMiles really like that ship.

Speaking of Pete... Like what the?? How many Christmas's and Thanksgivings have gone by with not one word from Pete. He didn't even send a simple can of corn niblets to the Kents. His family owned a corn farm it would be the least he could do... but nope.
Clark's dad died... nothing. No corn on the cob... not even a crappy husk ornament to hang on the wall in his memory.
I'm pissed off at Pete. He's up to no good with his knowledge of Clark's secret.

The Eradicator is a tool/weapon that protects Kryptonian culture in the comics. It has in recent years taken the form of a human-like/Kryptonian being who wears a suit that slightly resembles Superman's.
The weapon I think was what first created the FOS in the pre-Crisis continuity. There was a storyline where it made Jimmy Olsen malleable and started turning Earth into Krypton. I think Clark had to go inside the Phantom Zone to meet an ancestor of his (Kem-El) to learn to control it.
But going back to SV, if Lionel wants power, then the Eradicator is *certainly* the means at which to get it. That would make the MB one dangerous SOB.
I think having the Eradicator responsible for creating the body of the Cyborg Superman, Hank Henshaw (an astronomer who died after a shuttle accident very much like the Fantastic Four of Marvel comics experienced; though it was a Lexcorp shuttle) would be a cool modification. He could be Lionel's own weapon and own version of Clark who he could use to control the world. In the comucs Henshaw used Superman's birthing matrix to create a cybernetic body with DNA portions identical to Superman. The birthing matrix is what Clark in the comics arrived to Earth in, since in the comics he was only conceived on Krypton & not born there. On Smallville, the matrix is replaced by the ship. Since the ship is supposedly destroyed (unless it re-materialized somewhere else for when Clark was ready to become Superman) having the Eradicator be responsible for the cyborg Superman or a cyborg Clark (for now) would be a good idea. But I doubt they would have Henshaw on this show since that would be skipping far ahead.
The story of Henshaw is an interesting one. You can read more here:

I have many of the Reign of the Supermen comics that he was in after Doomsday killed Superman.

I can stand an episode or two without the two, but I still need my fix of the Fab redhead and MB soon.

I like them both independently, but I hate them together. The whole relationship thing they have going on just disgusts me.

You took the words right out of my mouth. I'm looking forward to Lionel's role in Justice.

True. Not every 'possible' ship has to become reality on this show...

I love Lionel's character. he's ruthless, and does what he wants, but always has a reason for it, unlike some of the things lex does. I agree that the show needs him around.
I like Martha's character as a focusing point for clark. she's not as important as Lionel's character, but she still shouldn't be completely dismissed.
I absolutely HATE the idea of them having a relationship. i think it doesn't make sense from the way they developed her character over the first few seasons. she might trust him more than other people do, but i don't think it would go beyond that.

The closest thing we have seen to the Eradicator in SV was Lionel of season 5. In a way, he preserved the Kryptonian culture by protecting Clark and eradicated outside influences/invaders that were a threat (i.e. Milton Fine). Lionel claimed he was an oracle of Kryptonian knowledge, which could be an interpretation of what the Eradictor is. Lionel could have been infected with the SV version of the Eradictor's program. I wouldn't doubt it one bit. I think that since the water stone gave Lionel that knowledge and is also one of the building blocks of the FOS (since it is part of that crystal that appeared when all the stones were combined), the link to Lionel was lost when the FOS shut down. I also think Lionel knows where all that knowledge was stored and was given instructions to house it in some sort of device, which I'm guessing will be officially introduced as SV's Eradicator.
