View Full Version : Anyone else feel differently about Lois this season?

It's episodes like this that have helped me come around in my opinion of Lois. I still think she has some rough edges, but I thoroughly enjoyed Erica's performance tonight and the teaming up of Lois with Jimmy and Clark. I am starting to appreciate her as a character and I feel she was well used this episode. Pun intended.

Have I drank too much of the scotch tonight or does anyone else agree with me?

Like I said in another post a few days ago...I'm starting to like Lois more than Chloe now, which I never thought would have been possible back in season 4. I did like Chloe again in Hydro. I just wish she got a haircut or would style her hair differently in the front. It looks so friggin annoying (like a kid's doll). She should go back to her season 5 style.

But I liked Lois' plan and how she worked with Clark to "expose" Ollie very much. Very well done. I also liked Jimmy this episode. They're making him be more than just a clown, and I like that.

I think Jimmy has progressed the most out of the future DP staff. We're starting to see why he will be such a great photographer.

Yes it was very stupid as I have pointed out the same myself. The GA story should have been what got her into it, not a barn door.

I don't like her anymore than I did when she came to SV. The only time I can stand her is when she's with Ollie/GA and Chloe.

I agree lois is great when she bickers wit clark/show a softer side wit ollie/carin side wit chloe, but her journalism arc is annoyin.Plus its almost as if they gaveup on it since reunion and even then she wasn't real deep into journalism jus yet.But its a start so we'll see,I do think she's showin another carin side this season since dating oliver. And her not carin if he was GA or not cause she's in luv was cute, diff for her character but understandable cause she can't be so rough all the time.I like lois on sv jus not datin SvClark, they got that bro/sis vibe that I could never see changin even if its lightswitch I'd never like it on the show. But her character alone is much better this season than the prior 2

she's ok..contrary to popular belief, her best chemistry is with Ollie in my opinion....but she has improved since her early appearances in SV...which is to be expected.

"Rough". That's a great way to put it. I hate when Lois is "rough", like some truck driver. Having a sense of humor doesn't mean you have to talk like you're down at the bar with the boys sharing jabs over a beer. I like when Lois is busy and she shuts the hell up, that's all.

I actually like lois more this season compared to season 4 and 5. They are finally doing more with her character. Yes they way they brought her into journalism is a little bull but atless they are pushing it more and doing more with her then in the past season.

i loved lois in season 4 but since exposed she's been kinda blehhhhhh...sum good comic relief and all but not really a stand outcharacter that is easy to relate w/. plus the bro sis/ constant bickering vibe creeps me out...i like her j cant see her being w clark or ever leaving the inquisitor....and she says she's in love w ollie right now so who knows how long thatll last lol

I've always loved her character. :D But, I especially like parts of this season. I don't think she sees Clark enough air time though. She's a main character... and needs a reporter story. (Although Chloe-fans might disagree because they want to see a chloe reporter story.)

Cause, who else besides Lois would sing karyoke with Chloe? Lana wouldn't, Clark wouldn't and Lionel or Martha wouldn't. Maybe Shelby?

Well, I am one who disliked lois from her first stupid statements at the hospital with Clark when she first appeared.

I will say that she was not particularly obnoxious tonight, which means of course that TPTB soft-pedaled the disagreeable parts of her personality. Maybe it is a trend, or maybe it is a fluke. Time will tell.

But I am not ready to say that I like lois better this year until the year shows that she is a changed person.

Hey, Smallville!

Well, aside from SteveS, I am glad that more and more people are starting to like Lois.... She, Chloe, and CLark are my favorite characters.. I also did not like HOW she got into writing this season, but she's been written better in regards to journalism after that IMO, and before that she was always shown to be reat at investigating... so my only spiff was with the HOW she got into an actual job of writing..

i feel the same. she is a regular character now whether i like it or not. (more not). Each time she's on the screen I give her a clean slate hoping that one day she just fits in. 2 nite she fit in more than usual.

This was Lois' episode. She made me laugh, she made me feel bad and good for her... not to mentioned embarrassed.

Erica did a fantasic job with Lois tonight. She had like 5 different emotions throughout the entire episode! At one point I thought she was going to cry at the fact she was in love.

I love it!

I am warming up to Lois. I didn't like her when she first came to Smallville, but now I'm starting to appreciate her character as well.
Plus, I am also starting to see why Clark falls for her. I mean, she told Clark she'd be okay with Oliver if he said he was from Mars. When Clark asked Lana about aliens once, she said she'd probably freak out if she met one... Clark's gotta be attracted to someone who's a little more open minded from the get go, right? I'm not a guy, so I can't exactly know that he's probably attracted to other things too (but from a woman's point of view, I'd be attracted to a guy with an open mind) - that's besides the point -personality wise, I'm beginning to see why Lois and Clark are compatible in the future. (I still have a soft spot for Clana though...LoL :p)

They've taken some of the crassness and meanness out of her character, but there's still too much "tell" rather than "show" when it comes to her alleged journalistic dedication.

Lois character is getting bigger and bigger... I love that!! She's the only one that can make Clark act differently... I mean, she annoys him... she made him laugh... and he care for her...

What I love about Lois character is that the fact that she's close with the Kents... Mr. Kent even trust her enough to run the campaign...

I do feel differently about Lois this season... In a very good way...

Erica Durance is a very fantastic actress!! Bravo

Lois just acts the same in every episode. There is no range to her character. When she told Clark about Oliver, no emotion, just the same. When she left Oliver after she saw the cut, it was abrupt and silly. The real acting tonight was between Chloe, Clark, Lana and Lex. Lois, Jimmy and Oliver are pretty much the same each week. I think that's fine for Jimmy and Oliver but Lois is supposed to be a central character in the show and she's just comic relief.

Are you kidding? When Lois told Clark that she loved Oliver... I thought she was going to start balling out tears! We saw so many sides to Lois tonight. Erica did a fantastic job. She's really growing and playing into the character. This was one of her better not to mention best episodes.

I don't feel differently about Lois. I thought she was terrific in Crusade. I think she is terrific in Hydro. Nothing has changed for me!

Those who dislike Erica do it for the obvious reasons that they like other ships so it really doesn't matter. She has done a fantastic job. Hydro is a feather in her cap. Excellent Erica Durance!

That is sooo true... Ive come to realize at this board, that people hate Lois... so whenever she does something that makes her... oh I don't know, LOIS! People start complaining more about her, because maybe, just MAYBE... she is the Lois Lane!

Name one scene where she wasn't lighthearted and playful.

When she saw the cut on Oliver's arm, her exit was abrupt and silly.

When the kiss happened it was abrupt and how could she say the the green arrow kisses better than Oliver when all she did was smash his face with the kiss. She couldn't make it more believable?

In the barn, she was basically lighthearted and playful Lois. There could have been way more range shown there. At some point she has to act outside of the character. That's when an actor truly shines. She has to expand the character not act the same in every scene. Listen to actors and actresses, they always talk about things that they bring to the character. So far, Lois has been a one-dimensional Lois. Give me 3 examples where Lois wasn't playful and lighthearted since the first episode she was in.

Erica Durance has proved in Hydro that she was the best choice for the role of Lois Lane. Awesome acting! Every scene that Lois appeared in shined.

I usually keep myself subtle about expressing my views but Hydro simply made me fall in love with Erica, completely!! She was amazing in her performance as well as looked gorgeous.

Hell, I'd go to the length of saying that she made Chloe likeable for me in Hydro. The Lois/Clark/Chloe scene was too awesome!!

One of my big reasons of loving Chloe in S4-S5 was Chlo-Lo! Since it was gone in S6, I lost interest in Chloe. Now I hope Chloe plays a role in Clark and Lois realizing their feelings for each other. That'll make me love her! (And hey I started a thread about it too!)

2. When she was tied-up with Chloe as hostages in "Tomb".
3. When she was being water-tortured by the enemies of the Green Arrow.
4. When she discouraged Clark from killing Alicia's murderer.

6. The loft scene with Clark at the end of Aqua (where she told Clark that she's afraid she won't find another guy like AC)

8. When she confronted Lionel Luthor in prison about "Chloe's death."
9. When Lois was being forced to assassinate Mr. Kent during the campaign.
10. When Lois confronted Clark about making out with Simone while still being with Lana.

I strongly recommend that you watch Lois & Clark: The new adventures of Superman.

The essence of Lois is that she laughs through the gravest of situations. She doesn't believe in crying. She mocks at every situation that troubles her. These are the reasons why she is able to light heartedly share her life with Superman. Clark is emotionally fragile, Lois isn't. That is what makes them a perfect couple.

You forgot another one, which has always been a favourite of mine :)

11. When Lois looked over Smallville after the second meteor shower. You could really feel how much she has come to love and connect herself to this weird Kansas town and and the people she has come to know there.

Also, when she helped Lana and Chloe put things into perspectives again after both of them were totally bummed out after finally knowing about who Clark really is. It's very telling IMO, seeing how she herself is going to deal with Clark's secret in the future :)

How I do wish I could warm to Lois, I really do, like I eventually warmed to Teri Hatcher. However, no matter how hard I try, I cannot like her character and again, that has nothing to do with my shipping preference. Her flippant remarks bug me as much as some of Chloe's metaphors, both of which seem forced and unnecessary. Frankly, and please don't bite my head off for saying this, I think ED is not a very good actress and that's where part of my dislike for her character might come in since she just doesn't sell her character to me. Hopefully she will improve like KK and TW did, although she doesn't have as much time as they did.

I didn't actually start liking Lois til this season but more so - this episode. She was a tad rough around the edges, but now she's balancing out a bit.

But there's still room for growth (either way - I mean they could take a wrong turn and she could go back to being loathed by me) but overall - I think I like we're they're taking the character.

I've always liked Lois. But the writing in Hydro juggled the secondary characters of the episode exceptionally well. Lois and Jimmy weren't just clowns or absent. Oliver wasn't just the boyfriend. Jimmy wasn't just the dorky pseudo boyfriend. Despite the limited time, they managed to touch on all aspects of all the characters involved. Very well done on the parts of the writers, director and editing team.

I don't think any of this is new. IMO Lois has matured as a character but ED has always done a stellar job bringing what is written to life in an interesting way. The same with AA as Jimmy. from Wither on, I've enjoyed how much fun he has with what he's given. It's just finally the talent is lining up with the material in a way that showcases each to maximum effect.

I liked her scene with Jimmy and how they called each other out by their (Kryptonsite?) forum/chatroom ID's. I hope they collaborate more in the future.

It would be cool if there are people linked to SV who use the usernames Lois & Jimmy mentioned in Hydro on the Kryptonsite message boards.

Nope, my opinion about her has not changed. I hated her obnoxious, rude, lush, and slutty behavior in the beginning and feel the same way now. I would be happy to see her brutally murdered but I know that will not happen. How a bimbo like Lois manages to have great jobs thrown into her lap with no experience or skill is a joke.

She is the scum queen now and forever more!
