Chloe putting her hand up to Clark, "This is the best part." LOL, she was enjoying the revelation far too much. And poor Clark looked so confused by it all. Definitely one of the best Clois foreshadowing moments on the show.

It depends. If Chloe is over him, why wouldn't her want her best friend married to her cousin? It would make sense on this context, and considering Alison Mack last interview, Chloe is over Clark.
Hey, Smallville!

Considering the importance Chloe has in Smallville, it wouldn't surprise me if TPTB made her the reason for Lois and Clark hook up. It would be a one more tribute for her character: she is the one responsible for Lois becoming interested in journalism, she is also responsible for Clark becoming interested in journalism. I can see them making her the one that will push them to be together.

I thought the kiss was good. I liked the reaction from Clark after he took the hood off, he smiled which is a good thing. Hmmm...the fact that Chloe was so geaked up over the fact that Lois loved the kiss...could that mean that Chloe has actually moved on from Clark? It certainly looked that way in that scene.

As is so often the case on Smallville, there are always at least two ways of viewing these type of scenes. The Cloisers see Clark smiling as he pulls the hood off and immediately think that means he's smiling about the kiss itself. And that's certainly one interpretation. However, an equally valid way of looking at the scene is to view Clark's smile as one of satisfaction. He and Ollie pulled it off! They fooled Lois! That's the way I perceived it.
And the same thing with Chloe and how she was reacting to the scene at the end. I don't think she was pushing for a Clark/Lois hookup at all. I think she is secure in her belief that Clark doesn't care for Lois in any way, shape or form. He is still mildly annoyed by her and Chloe knows it, so she was enjoying watching him squirm in that scene. That's why she was smiling.
Again, it never ceases to amaze me how folks can see these scenes in such different lights.

This kiss made no sense. This is what I saw.
1) Clearly a closed mouth kiss the whole way.
2) Afterwards, Lois doesn't look thrilled about it at all.
3) Afterwards, Clark looks like "hehe, well alrighty then!" (i.e. he seemed to have a good time)
4) But at the end of the episode, even though Lois looked like she was not into it, now it's the bestest kiss evah? And despite being closed mouthed it was hotter than the obvious passionate french kissing she was doing with Oliver earlier? Uh, ok.
5) Also at the very end, even though Clark looked like he enjoyed it, his reaction to being told it was better than Oliver was luke warm at best.
So... it's like there was no consistency there. Lois starts out looking like she's kissing her brother, but at the end it's the best kiss ever. And Clark starts out looking like he really enjoyed it, but at the end was like "meh".
In any event, there was certainly no indication that anything romantic was even starting to bloom - not even close. Especially with Lois declaring her love for Oliver and Clark still whining about Lana.
Hey, Smallville!
01-11-2007, 07:49 PM

Exactly, what is Lois supposed to get all excited right in front of Oliver? Her reaction was just right, IMO, she was speechless at first and when Oliver popped up, she could barely say a complete sentence. And Clark's reaction was great too. Giving that smile after he took off the hood, for the people who claimed that Clark and Lois were like brother and sister to each other, do you think that Clark would give that kind of reaction after kissing his sister?

I like how there was only 1 positive choice and 3 negative ones.
Next time you want a fair reading, leave 2 choices.
Watching Clark kiss his future wife for the first time was awesome! And, having Lois unknowingly confide in her future husband what a great kisser he is was priceless!

I say Clark enjoyed both the kiss *and* the whole plan they pulled off. And I am neither a Cloiser nor any other shipper. The only relationship that everyone knows will happen in the future is Clois, so it's a fun foreshadow, but I couldn't care less if they get together right now.

Not a 'shipper here...
I thought it was very cute, and done in a highly amusing way. I didn't see much "hot", but I don't think thats what they were really going for. In fact, I think I would've liked it to be a little hotter, since that would make what Lois said later make more sense.
My impression of Clark's smile is that he was shocked, and amused that Lois just kissed him and he sort of enjoyed it. I don't think there's enough there to consider him "smitten". But certainly he found kissing Lois to be not half bad at all :)
The later scene between him/Chloe and Lois was very funny, and really well played by everyone. Again, I thought Clark's reactions ran more along the lines of embarassed, but a bit pleased with himself that Lois considered him a hot kisser. What guy wouldn't be digging on that.
I thought, overall, the scene played out very well, but was actually a lot less anvil-licious that I was expecting. JMHO

I agree. It was nice to see a bit of the old FRIENDLY Chlois back, but she seemed giddy that Clark and Lois kissed, that Lois thought it was awesome without knowing it was Clark, and that Clark didn't know what was going on.
Look everyone, it's match maker Chloe! lol
I expect that'll be forgotten the next time Clois and Chlark share an episode though.
Chloe wasn't even upset that Jimmy was taking pictures with Lois. She was oddly normal this episode.
The kiss itself was way too short, and I was laughing at Jimmy taking pictures like crazy. Reminded me of SR Jimmy when Superman was holding the globe. (I love the brother/sister thing with Jimmy and Lois, or at least that's I felt the two worked together as)
But I agree with Rand G, Clark's facial expression afterward was kewl! It more than made up for the short kiss. He actually smiled, when no one was looking so that means it was genuine. I expected him just to have that shocked look on his face, but then he smiled like . . "oohh yeah!" Very kewl. He smiled again later when Lois said the 'Green Arrow' ;) could teach Ollie a thing or two about kissing.
Too cute.

You know, I initially saw it as Clark just liking the kiss (Ausiello influence), but now that you mention it, his reaction could have been due to a combination of both reasons. I think it's great that you were able to see it so objectively. :) I feel enlightened.
As for Chloe's reaction, I don't know if she is over Clark yet (it's hard to tell sometimes, IMO), but I'd definitely agree that she enjoyed seeing Clark so uncomfortable.

Yeah, I saw his look at the end as him liking the kiss (mutual participation at least LOL) AND "the plan worked!". Either way, it's funny.
Deep, sensual hot liplock? Oh no, I don't think they're going for that. Clark's way too honourable and still very much a farmboy to take advantage over somebody else's girl even when he's all dressed up. A 7-sec kiss already cost him a slap, imagine what Lois would do if he went for more than that :)

If you've seen the expressions on Clark's face after the kiss and later on when Chloe and Lois discuss it, you'll know Ausiello wasn't exaggerating when he said that Clark will be completely smitten!

This is what I noticed: Between Jimmy's taking his third shot of them kissing and his fourth one, Clark was tilting his head and leaning into Lois. That's a big giveaway that he's really into the kiss. I mean, this girl IS the bane of his existence right? :D Makes you wonder why he'd be into the kiss if that's truly the case.
Of course, this is just my completely biased Clois shipper self talking. Feel free to disregard it :p

Since we're talking about subject to interpretation, I definitely interpret his look and smile afterwards as 'Clark Kent Has Been Officially Laned' :) I also agree with the interpretation that at the same time he got a kick out of being able to use his powers without having to worry about someone knowing his identity.

It was hard to interpret whether he wanted to wipe his mouth or what. There certainly was no, wow I',m in love vibe there nor did he try to grab onto her and hold her like he never wanted to let go if you insist on comparing it with other kisses. And it was a gross one, to be sure. If the writers meant ot suggest that one pathetic kiss would make a guy fall in love with a girk who has dissed him and treated him with disdain since he first met her then that would say nothing good about Clark. Are we to assume Clark only likes girls who mistreat him? Remember this is a girl Clark considers a loud mouth and repeatedly makes clear he doesn't much like to even be around her, for the most part. Is that the kind of girl we want the hero to like? I certainly think not. That weould make Clark look like a total looser. Not my idea of the world's greatest superhero at all.

It didn't do anything for me and that is not because I am a Chlark fan. I think some of the best kisses have been Clana kisses. The 'Red' one comes to mind.
Hey, Smallville!
01-12-2007, 07:53 AM
Yeah I will admit the one in Red was tons better, I said before the whole scene with CLois was so rushed, so I'm not really surprised if the kiss was, plus Lois thought it was Oliver, when she found out it wasnt she pulled back, but Clarkie did tilt his head and kiss her back, anyone can see that, and he did have a look on his face after and later when they were at the Talon..

Nobody is saying that Clark is going to fall in love right away just because one single kiss. If that happens, I'm very sure everyone would start screaming 'EPIPHANY!' all over again :) And I don't think he needed to grab hold of her or never wanted to let go or whatever, that would be taking advantage of the situation, especially when he knows Lois is Oliver's girlfriend. Which would make it more shameful and dishonourable for a guy like Clark.
There's nothing to indicate that these two are personally against each other anyway, even if they shoot down each other most of the time. In fact, I highly doubt Lois would confide in Clark about anything if she doesn't consider themselves as close friends at the very least.
I don't read too much into the kiss itself. Clark was taken aback and surprised initially, but he just can't help himself from getting into it. That's all :)

Agreed. It definately felt more like Chloe was amused at the fact that she had figured the whole thing out, including the fact that Oliver & Clark played a trick on Lois in order to keep Oliver's identity a secret, as well as the fact that Clark was so uncomfortable about the whole thing. It wouldnt' make sense for Chloe to be trying to set them up since Lois is still in love with Oliver and, even if Chloe is over Clark, it would still be pretty awkward to set your cousin up with the guy you've been in love with for 5+ years (I don't think I know any girl that would do that).

It might have not been long, but it served its purposes:
Hint the future (not a near future)
Have a Clois kiss.
Now it was also done amazingly, considering what that kiss could mean. But most importaintly Tom nailed completely the way it shoull have been done.
FIRST, the kiss was suposed to be hot, so intestead of showing us a hot kiss, the ligthing of the scene left a few parts of the scenes too dark (as in abscenese of light) thus basically leaving the kiss to anyone´s imagination, and i thought that was genious, caaue it made it hot or better yet, probably hot.
People may wonder why I said better yet, well, cause Ollie would show up and considering we have Justice around the corner having awkward tension between Ollie and Clark would be harmfull, so the kiss was done in such a way that it didnt seem that hot to Ollie or anyone else, but that (considering the darker parts of the kiss), might have been a hot one.

Agreed. There are opinions saying that the kiss should be longer, should have more close-ups or something, but I definitely don't think they're going for that. It would be awkward for Oliver and Clark considering Lois is still Oliver's girlfriend and it wouldn't be like Clark at all if he tried to take advantage of the situation.
For me, it's enough that they took care to show the Clark's immediate reaction after the kiss (could be interpreted as him being happy to use his powers in public without anyone knowing his identity, but definitely not the only reason) and also including that Talon scene near the end.

I totally agree! So awesome. I also agree about the Clark taking advantage point. He'd never knowingly take such an unfair advantage of Lois. That would be so un Superman like. Clark wasn't expecting Lois to kiss him. She completely surprised him, and boy was he surprised! The kiss was perfect. Very very sweet and not overly raunchy like some kisses are. Excellent directing by Tom Welling. Also I'm actually not surprised in the least that Chloe was so amused and insistent on Clark hearing about Lois and her encounter with her mystery "Super - man". In fact I am greatly relieved and overjoyed that Chloe was so giddy about his reaction to Lois kissing him.
Chloe was absolutely beaming upon seeing his reaction.
She is so on to them and their games now. Chloe is very sharp and she can definitely see some sparks now and it would seem that she doesn't mind in the least. She really liked seeing Clark get his ego boost from Lois. So awesome for Chloe to be ok with it. Great Great forshadowing. I absolutely loved it!

01-13-2007, 11:37 PM
I thought the scene played really great, but like FreddyO, my first impression was that Clark's smile was because he succeeded at playing the GA part (loved the fumbling with the arrows). But after watching it again, he looked content and then smiled bigger, so I have to believe it was 2-fold, he enjoyed getting away with the GA part as well as enjoyed the kiss.
I don't get posters saying about Chloe's matchmaking, it was simply a way to tease Clark and to let him know she had figured it all out. And I did laugh when Chloe kind of shoved him into the room so she could begin her teasing. And her "How romantic" was just priceless and I saw it as she knows they get on each others nerves from time to time.
Margroks, over time both Clark and Lois have warmed up to each other and helped each other, such as the task relating to GA. You may not like the ship, but it has improved over time and most really enjoy every nible they get, including me.

Clark absolutely DID put his arms around her. During the actual kiss scene, the camera was too high on them to show it. For those of you who recorded the episode, go back and look at the scene where Jimmy shows Chloe his pictures on his computer. Several clear shots show Clark's arms completely around Lois' waist, holding her up against him.
As for the look on his face when he takes off the hood and glasses, again, for those who recorded it, I challenge you to go back and play it in slow motion. He definitely looks like he's remembering something delightful. First, he looks off to his left like he's replaying the scene in his mind and smiles, then he looks more directly toward the camera, but up and to his right and then down into space, again like he's recalling it all, and he smiles again.
Those eyes and those smiles definitely have recall and remembering written all over them. That can only mean that he's either recalling the kiss or the heroics, but in my book, he's saved so many people with them unaware of it, that such a satisfied "recall" smile can't be for that reason alone. I think it is blindingly meant to convey that he really enjoyed that kiss and that his enjoyment of it surprised him.

Fabulously AWESOME first Clois kiss - it's sweet, funny, and totally awkward as it should have been!
A) it was flat out sponteneous and unexpected, Clark had NO idea it was going to happen - no time to prepare technique, etc nor would he ever have entertained the thought of kissing Lois that night.
B) Clark wasn't about to go tongue tangling w/ his friend/best friend's girlfriend - because he's too freaking honorable. You will notice though that as the kiss progressed and he got past that initial shock he snatched her close to him and really didn't want to let go or for the kiss to stop.
C) it was a closed mouth, chaste, and yet VERY wildly unexpected thing to happen between the two of them.
Just think if a somewhat seemingly simple kiss like that can cause both of them to get weak at the knees - what the HELL will a REAL kiss be like between them?

I'm glad I found this thread! Besides the amazing look on Clark's face when he pulled the mask off (he looked breathless, and it was nothing to do with superspeeading away!! LOL!), I loved how at the end of the show how CK was just at the edge of his seat when Lois was describing how he was holding her in his arms, and she kissed him, but best of all, "that Green Arrow, he could teach Ollie a thing or two". Chloe was was ribbing him which was hysterical!!
Loved it!!!;)

So Lois has a thing for Green Arrow aka Clark Kent. Its odd to see Chloe so excited about it though.
It's something she can make fun of Clark for!

That was an amazingly awkward kiss. That's exactly how it should've been considering the situation.
I agree. But I loved Clark's expression afterwards.
