Although there has been no news about the dvd box set i found some info that some may be intrested in.
Heroes fans that subscribe to NetFlix, the online video rental service, will be able to rent a special DVD that features a summary of the 11 episodes of Heroes that have aired so far. The DVD, produced with NBC, will also include the pilot episode of The Black Donnellys, and a look at the new Jeff Goldblum series, Raines. NetFlix subscribers can add the DVD to their queue now, and it'll ship out on January 9. The content will also be available on NBC.com on January 15.
Heroes returns to the NBC lineup on January 22

Hi there, I don't really know where to ask this question but how many episodes are planned for Heroes Season 1?
Drolfin
02-27-2007, 12:25 AM
currently there have been 23 episodes commissioned, i believe

Hey Drolfin
Thanks very much for that, I just hope there at least 20 episodes.

- The producers are hoping to release the Season 1 DVD in both HD-DVD and regular DVD. In addition, the DVD will include some exclusive scenes filmed for the DVD that will take place in moments following the season finale.
- The DVD will also include the 72-minute "Tim Kring cut" of the series pilot as shown at Comic-Con last year. The deal has just been finalized.

Any word on whether the graphic novels or deleted scenes are included in the package?
superhippie2000
04-11-2007, 08:10 AM
im pretty sure deleted scenes will be on there. i would guess the graphic novels would wind up being a dvd rom feature or something.
warriorrenegade
04-11-2007, 10:10 AM
So does that mean If we wish to see the graphic novels we would still have to download them off the net? If thats the case then that sucks. I mean not everyone has highspeed. *points finger at self*
I hope they put the GN on the episode disc's . Like say you finish watching an episode then you have an opition of reading the GN that leads into the next episode.
superhippie2000
04-11-2007, 03:06 PM
well there is only so much stuff they can stick on a disc so like 4 or 5 42 minute long episodes per disc plus deleted scenes and any commentaries they may not be able to stick 4 graphic novels too an each disc.
hey you never know they may also add a bonus disc that contains them so they are all stored on discs and no need to download. i really dont know for sure about the graphic novels cause most features havent been told yet so there is a good chance other features will pop up.
FUZZYWOOKIEE

I hope an official announcement comes soon. It should be at least six discs, but only if they chintz out on us. I think we could be looking at at least 2 extra bonus discs with making of movies, graphic novels and lots more extras
/crosses fingers and hopes for the best

On the wizard interviews they talked about what was going on them. I think they are on NBC.com. Smallville seasons are on 6 disc with 22 eps and only have a few extras. So if they had as much as it sounds like they may have to use more. But they also said that the HD disc will allow them to fit more on one disc. I will look for the interview in a little while and post the link. Its good stuff!

I heard them say that the HD version will have a whole lot more! But that is actually a pretty descent release. Only 3 months versus the 6. I wonder how long they will keep the vids on nbc.com? They must want all the $$$ from the dvd sales to kickoff season 2.

This according to an interview with Matt Grunburg.

Smallville could put more commentaries, but they are lazy. Heroes has a bigger cast and they are ding every episode. I'll bet its seven discs.
chrisxs5
05-13-2007, 06:46 PM
That would be OK with me. But that brings up another question:
How much would be too much? Most of the time series DVD release at higher prices. I would expect these will go for around 49 to start. Which I would pay but I dont think I can afford more than 65. I would prefer around 30-35.
chrisxs5
05-13-2007, 10:48 PM
In an interview with Tim Kring, he says that In His Own Image will be included on the first season DVD set.
Superboy2
05-14-2007, 12:10 AM
Its not a HBO or Showtime show, so I doubt it would be more than 50. Funny, I could pay 45 for 22 episodes of Smallville, yet pay 65 or probably more for Sopranos, Dexter or The Tudors. And those are all 12 episodes. Kind of getting jipped, but oh well.
chrisxs5
05-14-2007, 06:11 AM
Thats why I asked. When Friends was released you could pick them up for 45 and now 25-30. Same with SV, I got Season 1 for 45 and now my wally-world has it for 34. But my Best Buy has it for 48!
Superboy2
05-14-2007, 04:32 PM
Best buy has most shows on DVD, but they overprice most of it. I only go there if I have a gift card or no other place has a show I want.
chrisxs5
05-14-2007, 05:21 PM
I only go there to find stuff no one else has also! They had season 3 of 4400 for 38, but I held out and found it at wal-mart for 29.

Does anyone know if they plan to include the graphic novels on the DVDs? That would be awesome and pretty much cement me as "buying it!"
My wish list for Heroes DVD:
Graphic Novels
Making Of Documentary
Commentary on the major episode in each mini-arc (Save the Cheerleader, Are You On The List, Time to Save the World)
Interviews with cast and crew
Trailers
Music Video (I love DVD's that have a music video made for the movie, they need to do that for the first season of Heroes too)

The latest news dated today from tvshowsondvd.com makes it official that the release date will be Aug 28 for both DVD and HD-DVD box sets.
Universal hasn't provided box art or extras yet, but it will be a 7-disc set, 1.78:1 widescreen, english Dolby digital 5.1 audio, etc. Suggested retail price (SRP) for DVD set will be $59.98, $99.98 for HD-DVD.
Retailers generally sell sets initially at 10 to 40 percent off the SRP, depending on the retailer. After they've been on the market for a year or so, the price might drop to over 40 percent or more off SRP.
tvshowsondvd.com just added the artwork for the box cover on their news page.

The above are not necessarily all because this info came from TVShowsonDVD.com without official word from Universal yet. They noted that missing are the online graphic novels. Until they get "official" word of the extras from Universal, they don't know if this is all. Some of this info though was listed on the DVDEmpire.com website as extras for the pre-orders.

I will buy one just for this DVD!
I really hope the DVDs have all the commentaries that NBC has on their website.
The commentary for the Finale was just awesome. The creators were saying 'Yeah, we've seen those movies on YouTube' - meaning those movies that have Nathan and Peter being a little too brotherly. The creators did say that Peter and Nathan are Itallian - so there's a lot of touching in that culture.
Love the commentaries. :D
Going to need to get both the HD and the reg dvds.

So these are the prices I saw after the pre-order sale.
Regular set 69.99
HD Set 99.99
I saw this on site that had the pre-order sale and of course it said save this much and this much by pre-ordering. So the prices are after adding in the savings. Can anyone confirm or disprove this? I have had no plans on pre-ordering but if it will save me 30 bucks I might change my mind.
Amazon (the link provided a few posts back by the mod http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000QDLSR0/gijoevid ) has them on sale for $32.99 (that's the reg DVD set)

I'm betting that the prices will be around $35.99-$44.99 (reg dvd) when it is released on Tues. If it's released near a holiday then it might go on sale again.
And lets not forget that Target, Walmart, Best Buy, as well as other stores will probably all have their special edition discs exclusive to that store..........

So, the HD sets say the have PIP commentary, the comentary from nbc.com. Does this mean that regular will not have the web commentary, or that it simply will be only an audio version of the web commentary?

http://tvshowsondvd.com/newsitem.cfm?NewsID=7653
Honestly... I'm disappointed.
For one, the "comic book" font doesn't match Tim Sale's from the show, and the colors and the basic feel of the menus don't match the eclipse theme on the box.
But that's just what I think. What do you all think?
Wooderson_Grey
07-12-2007, 08:47 PM
I realy dont like the comic style. To me it attracts too much attention on Isaac or that one power.. But i know its meant to be broader than that considering what Isaac does, and the fact that Peter and Sylar also have his power. Still I would rather see real shots and pics of the cast, maybe even screen shots. But hey, I'll still buy it. I just dont see season 2 using the same comic style when it comes out, since Isaac is dead. But you never know, Pete and Sylar may end up using the power alot in season 2. who knows.
bottom line, i'll still buy it.
kcox6751
07-12-2007, 09:04 PM
I somewhat agree with you on how it's drawing attention to Isaac... but the producers have said the paintings guided everyone to where they ended up in the finale.

Things like that annoy me because i watch my favorite shows so much, that the introductions and menu screens get stuck in my head. I am actualy one of the few people who hates remmy zero. And its because i have simply heard him scream "saaaaaaaaaave meeeeeeee, let your warm hands.." too many times now.
As far as Heroes, i already have the episodes so i definatley want a good package, with good special features when i get it.

From what I read they will both have the commentaries (but not ALL the commentaries...which sux) but the HD set will have additional features etc.
They have their own website for the dvds http://www.nbc.com/Heroes/dvd/
They clearly list what the differences are between the DVDs and the HD DVDs. :)
As for the menus - I rather like them. They do match what the Graphic Novel looks like and really tie-it together. As far as the font - the comic font is actually the same font they use for the titles of every episode. So while it might not be the 'HEROES' logo font, the comic font and layout still ties into the episodes and overall feel of the show.

I'm a little scared about the availability of the DVD. I went to Wal-Mart and they had a clearly marked "Heroes DVD Season 1" price sticker with zero copies in stock. I called K-Mart and they told me that they didn't have any, but not that it wasn't out yet. If the main stores in my area have put it out early only to be sold out this quickly, I'm gonna be ticked. I'm crossing my fingers that they might've just put a few copies out early and the rest will be out tomorrow.

wal mart tends to put things out later then normal stores. i say go to best buy or circuit city or some other electronics store near you. they should have it.
I bought it at Target - knowing full well that it's going to go on sale later on today. But at least I can go back and get the sale price. They didn't have a lot of copies out which tells me that it's going on sale - Target always hords the copies in the back right before it goes on sale.
Reasons for buying it at Target for me - the DVD comes with an exclusive DVD and 4 mini posters and a different box cover.
FYI because it kinda got a little lost in the thread :)

looks like mini replicas of some of Issac's paintings. Not sure if they're the same in every box but I've got the one with Claire running scared, Peter ducking flying locker doors, Nikki/Jessica over the shoulder look, and Hiro fighting the dino.
They are postcard size, printed on textured canvas paper. Pretty nice actually.

I got it at Wal-Mart at 6 AM this morning, no problems. I haven't even watched any yet and I already love it. The packaging is just so simple and beautiful. It came with some interviews and an extended preview for The Bionic Woman (this might appeal to those of you who didn't download the leaked pilot, but wasn't really anything new to me). The bonus disc also had four episodes of Friday Night Lights, and the first episode didn't really do anything to make me want to watch it.
I'm gonna go home and watch the extended pilot. Oh and mine didn't come with a booklet either. They didn't have anywhere in the box to put it, though, so it might have been an HD-DVD exclusive if they packaged it differently for HD.
^^thanks for letting me know about the booklet not being in yours too - maybe it's on the dvd........

Has anyone found any easter eggs yet? There should really be a hidden gag reel or something on a DVD of this magnitude.

It has a price tag on it that says it's a Target Exclusive, but I haven't heard anything about a Collector's Edition DVD.

I heard there was a collectors edition available, but I never new where. I might run up to Target tommorrow and see if they have one.

Bought the DVD's last week, and I am VERY happy.
:)
What occurred to me is that the sound volume is very low in the deleted scenes, that's a little annoying.
Has anyone had the same problem?
MidgardDragon

I have that problem with most DVD deleted scenes. They usually don't fully edit the sound when they're just putting something in as a deleted scene so it sounds very quiet and unfinished.

Well why waste the money when it doesnt need final production? I fing them annoying also, but I do understand.

the target dvd is the same as all the other dvds except that target has a slightly different cover art and comes with post cards of issacs paintings. its only called a collectors edition cause all dvds tend to be called that. I say go to target and buy it dont get it on ebay.

Any news on when this season's DVD is released? Or will it end up a package deal with Season3, like I think it will.

Whoa! That mind-reading extra is so freaky! It worked 3 times on me, then my roommate and I did it together, and then she did it alone twice, and it worked every time!
HOW do they DO that? It's freakin amazing!

new dvd artwork.
Announced at ComicCon - Season 2 DVD will feature episodes not shown on tv because of the strike. Called 'lost episodes' - so even if you hated S2 it might be worth it to pick up the DVDs which have tons of features and extras.

well I have the UK DVD which has all the features announced by tvshowsondvd and while there are clips filmed that didn't fit in with where the new volume is going included with an introduction by jeph loeb and tim kring there are no full alternate episodes. they mainly revolve around the virus story where the vial breaks and in the end it was useless. They were filming episodes 12-13 at the time but stuff revolving around 'villains' will be reused.
i hope these scans are allowed

best buy has an exclusive set that comes with a kensi mask.

The standard edition is $25
Circuit City has an exclusive "film cell" which comes free.
Best Buy has the Kensei Mask in a box set for $35.
Target probably has the best deal, for $32 you get an exclusive Collector's Edition Cover, 30 Minutes of Extras and an exclusive Sketchbook.

I still REALLY hate store exclusives.
I still REALLY hate store exclusives.
Me too - because either you have to hunt for the different stuff or you have to decide what you want or if it's worth it. I opted for pre-order from Amazon at around $24 and so what if it doesn't have exclusives.
Target has S2 on sale now for $24.99 (http://www.target.com/Heroes-Season-2-Coleman-Jack/dp/B001B7CNZ6) if you guys are still hunting for a good deal.

It comes out this Tuesday. Aug 26.
And yes, there are supposed to be unaired episodes in the set as well as an alt ending (although that's on youtube right now - see the spoiler section of Heroes on this board)

It's also bad for websites who rely on Amazon pre-orders for revenue... it's kinda like "forget them, we'll go to Target!"

I hope I get a refund or something, Disc 4 has the Season 3 Sneek Peak :(

You should get refund. I had a disc damaged in one of the series I got earlier in the year - it really does suck though. What they did for me was mail me a new one and then gave me a return label for the damaged one.
I like the original cover instead of the Target exclusive - but hey if you're a Clairebear fan then it's right up your alley lol.... I actually have the exclusive cover from ComicCon so I'm not pressed about covers...... ;)

Dunno if you guys know this or not but I work at Walmart (Yes the evil empire) and they have there's special Heroes Season 2 Dvd Boxes.
What's so special about them?
Certain ones (exclusive to Walmart) come with a necklace on a black band with a helix symbol dangling from it, like the one Peter was wearing this past season when he woke up in the crate.
I managed to grab one today but they're hard to find and the Walmart stores sell out of them FAST so hurry!
