When Lex and his doctor friend talked, there was no mention of the kidnapped illegal laborers, Lex's only worry was murder. Lex seems pretty content kidnapping and it is my opinion that Lex brought McNally those workers to help him run the farm. The only thing Lex didn't know about was the murders, so I see Lex as guilty of what happened on that farm being he staged most of it. McNally running a farm would have no time or money to get his illegal workers.

Lex might of known that the workers may have been in danger. To me he basically used McNally farms the same way one would use an ant farm. He knew Mcnally was affected by the meteors, all he needed to know was how.
