Nope, just a guy trying to prove Lex wrong by showing he didn't need glasses. Of course, we didn't see the deleted scene where he bumped into the piano and tripped over the table afterwards...

No, no, you got it wrong. He bumped into Lana who tripped and took a nosedive into the fireplace and was taken to the hospital.
