Im one of the most unapologetic Smallville fans I know. I can usually stomach a lot of things when it comes to Smallville. But for the past couple episodes, Smallville has been just plain bad. One thing I hate is that the fight scenes are incredibly short now. If you combined Clark's fight scene with Batista in Static and Clark's undeground fight with the farmer in this past episode I still dont think you could come up with more than 30 seconds of total screen time.

But beyond that Im just really mad that they put in this filler episode that falls completely outside of the overall continuity of the show. The fact is this show was originally supposed to be the fifth episode and it shows. By the end of this episode Lana wants to use Lex's money to help the immigrants. This theme, Lana's desire to use Lex's money for good, was a theme that was developed in Rage (her desire to work with the halfway house) and then more or less destroyed in Static when Lana decided that something like 33.1 would be a good idea. I could totally tell that her desire to help the immigrants was supposed to set up her charitable efforts in the episode Rage. That scene was not supposed to come after Static, after Lana had already taken a darker turn.

Also the last scene in this episode was supposed to introduce 33.1 back into the show, not show that it had survived after the events in Static. You can totally tell that by the tone of the scene. This scene was originally supposed to air before Static to remind the audience that 33.1 indeed still exists.

The biggest giveaway that this show comes completely out of order is the weather. I mean we have already had a Thanksgiving episode and Crimson is supposed to be a Valentines episode. That means Subterranean, if it is to be in order, would have to take place between November and February. And since when do you have immigrant workers working in fully grown corn fields in hot weather in the middle of winter? Its completely ridiculous that they decided to air the episode when they did. The only attempt they made to make it seem like this episode fell into the right continuity was to put in a reference to Lex's proposal. Otherwise this show could have easily and should have easily been the fifth or sixth episode of the season.

I just cant believe the show can be that lazy about this kind of stuff.

Well, now that I read your full post I can understand what you are talking about. Definetely the producers edited this to make it seem like this episode was suppose to be in this order. As for the weather though, the weather in the midwest can be strange. I've seen weather reaching 70 degrees during the winter. Kansas, Oklahoma (go SOONERS), Missouri, and the other states around here have a strange tendency to produce some weird weather. But yeah, I can agree with the rest of what you said.
