I actually liked most of the episode, but the ending was great. The music fit well too. It suprised me when they said who the band was. I heard several of their songs, and it didn't sound like their other stuff.

sorry... no. i am beginning to view smallville as a sort of... experiment... AlMiles must be thinking something along the lines of "just how bad can a show get and still air." well so far they've been miracle workers, because a miracle is the only way i can explain why the show still airs.
the only good thing about the ending was the music, and that wasn't even one of AFI's better songs. Clana scene was pointless, the fight against the FotW was UNDERGROUND?!?! what the hell were they thinking? as soon as chloe said the words "guess what company bought blah blah" my friend and I spoke in unison "LUTHORCORP!" after which I immediately added... "i bet clark will now go to lex's mansion and tell lex he doesn't have the right to do any of this... to which lex will reply that he has no idea what clark is talking about." Yep.
Gopher-bully? I think that would work best as the nickname for tonight's FotW. What the crap?!
The only other good part of the episode was Clark's decisiveness... that was a first. When Clark pulled that tractor excuse out of his ... my friend just stared at the screen in disbelief "Did Clark really just think of something... smart to say?!"
33.1 is cool... hope they get something neat out of this specific storyline... but the ending? Pointless... we know Lex is evil... u didn't have to show us 5 minutes of him walking through a dark hallway of jailcells to prove that... yeah 33.1 exists.
Definitely no Smallville for me next year.
Oh yeah, I loved Jimmy in this episode though. The guy's hilarious. Chlo's face was priceless during that entire last scene. :D
Muhahahaha. I loved the ending better than the whole episode. Good ole evil Lex. lol. 33.1 Right there on the door. lol. Guess he worked a deal out with Lionel. :)

Anyone notice that AFI song was the same one in One Tree hill when peyton and her half brother are boxing in the ring? I love that song. But i thought the ending was sweet! I love when the directors, slow the footage in shows and in movies.

It was interesting. The music was pretty-good, and actually seeing this horrible place was freaky (no pun intended). :)
I'm just a little ticked that they advertised this episode as if it was about 33.1, and in actuality, it definitely was not. They just threw that little piece in there so they could spill it off in the previews and trick people into watching.
I've noticed they've been doing that a lot this season.

I thought the ending fit perfectly. Most of the episode was pointless - I mean since when does SV address the whole illegal immigration mess? It was a little preachy in my opinion. Mexican illegal immigration is not the same as an alien from Krypton. Eventually Clark Kent holds a job, pays taxes, etc... but I digress.
I think the whole episode was just to give glimpses of level 33.1 which will be the focus for the second half of the season.

The ending was one of the best by far! The episode could be considered a filler but I think it opened Clark's eyes to there's a bigger world out there beyond Smallville. The Clana had to be there to drive a wedge deeper between them and set things up for future episodes. Even though we know Lex has been behind a lot of "freaky" things regarding 33.1 we now know for sure (no more assuming) and he's got an army there not just a few guys. He's finally turned into the Evil Lex we've been waiting so long to see (again not just assume). So in my opinion this was a great character episode.

I loved it. It seems that every episode, Lana blindly trusts Lex more and more. TPTB are definitely setting their relationship up for a HUGE blowout. Think about it. Lana trusts Lex more and more, Lex gets worse and worse. They will NOT get married. Their relationship WILL end.

I LOVED the ending. I had pretty much stopped paying attention to the episode after McNally was revealed to be a meteor freak, but I saw Lex and the doctor around him, and I started paying attention again. Then Lex walking down the hallway paying no attention to any of the people he has locked up in cages, I about went crazy.
I think I'm gonna buy that song on iTunes since it will always make me think of that scene now, and I can just see Lex walking down the hall all badass like.:D

Firstly I have to say that scene was AMAZING! I really thought season 6 was going to let me down, but seeing Lex so cold was breath taking! OMG, I'm actually looking forward to the second half of S6, seeing as the first half was mediocre at best. But, am I the only one who saw some tuxedo wearing guy standing in front of the door? Last night I thought I was imagining things, but now I see that video in myspace and, am I the only one who thinks that guy can be Lionel Luthor? At first I thought he was just a body guard or something but now I'm not sure.....oh well....that scene was still AMAZING.

How do you know the people in there are mass murderers? Did you pay attention to the Vengeance Chronicles at all? Lex isn't just putting mass murderers in 33.1, he's putting all meteor freaks and super-powered individuals that he finds. He even had Bart in there for a while according to the Vengeance Chronicles, and Bart's definitely no mass murderer. Lex was, indeed, pure evil for that scene. Ok did anyone notice during the final scene, Lex walking down the hall. They cut to a shot of the door hes walking towards. In the window you see a man in a suit and tie. Call me foolish but could this had been a reshoot or deleted scene showing Lionel as the reveal when Lex opens the door? Then again its probably a security guard. LOL wishful thinking on my part.

Alright, the episode as a whole was filler at best. Heck even the fact that it was SUPPOSED to be later in the season and was reslotted here should tell us something. That being said:
Between the final 33.1 scene and the trailer for the rest of the season I completely forgot about the mediocre first 50 minutes and am salivating at the rest of the season. Is it 1/25 yet? THAT'S the one I'm waiting for, and with the trailer combined with the 33.1 time can't fly fast enough...

Did I like that ending? HELL YES. A below average episode, but that one scene is etched on memory. All I could think was, "there's Lex Luthor. Not Lillian's son Alexander, not Clark's buddy Lex, but Lex Luthor, supervillain extraordinaire."

This episode didn't show much, however, it showed some promise, let me explain.
Clark finally stood up for himself and hinting that Lana was Lex's puppet made me laugh and think Clark isn't emo mode around Lana as much anymore.
Second, I am happy to see they are doing more with Lex and his evil intentions instead of whining about Lana and his love for her. Screw that tramp, she has jumped on more men than I have finger's and toe's.
And last, just seeing that Clark is realizing his destiny and saving the world so far is making me happy.

The only way Lex knew where 33.1 was was through Lionel. That would lend you to believe that Lionel isn't as good as he's portraying. What is the intent here anyway regarding Lionel? We know he is guilty of kidnapping in the past, I guess that hasn't changed. At first I thought it was to keep an eye on Lex, but now I'm not so sure.
High votes for the song, too bad we didn't get more of it.

Well, that's one way to see it. And so 'was' Belle Rieve. But level33.1 is clearly a facility where Lex (and now Lionel) can study the meteor freaks. And knowing our two favorite bad guys, I guess we all know that curing the FOTWs is not the first priority...

The only good thing about this episode was the montage of episodes to come with the Justice League. I found this episode to be the most boring episode of the series and I hope there aren't any more to be viewed. I miss Lois and her smart remarks. She makes me laugh in every episode she's in. I hate how Lana is getting dumber by the second. I can't wait for the episode when she confides in Chloe about the proposal and her pregnancy. This was just a waste of film and filler time. Let's get on with the main plot already!

he's definitely evil- remember mxylpicalic(sp?) lex new he was a bad guy took him to 33.1 and brought his powers back- we found out subtley in season 4. He's not quarantining these bad guys- hes preparing to unleash them. I also think that when we saw cyborg and aquaman being tortured and experimented on- that was 33.1. they weren't bad guys.

Are you forgetting that aquaman tried to blow up Lex's laberatory just becuase he cared so much that a few hundred of his fishy freinds would get killed by leviathan.
He believed that a few hundred fish were more important than all of the scientists and matinence workers that would surely have been killed or maimed in an explosion that size. Not to mention all of the american soldiers that the leviathan would have saved.
Aquaman was nothing more than a radical, deranged, eco terrorist.

I didn't like the way Aquaman was portrayed in Aqua. I think they could have done without that terrorist angle. It would have been best if they exposed the true effects of Leviathan to the military & government and forced Lex's guys to tweak it so it didn't have the harmful effects it did. That way, AC wouldn't be portrayed as a terrorist and Lex & Clark could have another thing to push them apart since Clark would openly be the one exposing Lex instead of secretly destroying Leviathan without Lex knowing.

12-09-2006, 07:35 PM
The last show before the mid-season hiatus has traditionally had that kind of cliffhanger bigger-than-the-rest-of-the-show ending, so I don't think it was out of place at all. It wasn't meant to be a part of the episode-story, but a big hint at what's to come.
xrayvision
12-09-2006, 07:41 PM
It should have had a double cliffhanger ending, the one they had with 33.1 & one where Lana finds the room Lex has about Clark stuff. I think those 2 would have been a great way to set the direction of the 2nd half of the season (level 33.1 and what's going on there & the collapse of Lexana/Lana finding out Clark's secret).
warriorrenegade
12-09-2006, 08:24 PM
I'd have to disagree Xray. To have Lex still obsessed with Clark would be like Clark still obsessed with Lana. Its time Lex moves on , collecting freaks to do his bidding is a way of doing that.
Now if they did an ending similar to last years Cyborg: Lionel "Your secret is safe with me Kal-EL" , but instead show Lionel having the other piece of Brainiacs power source and using it to open the portal to the FOS. That would have rocked.

Well, I understand what you mean and agree that Lex should not be obsessed with Clark anymore. But I think he should still have that room, since it would be stupid to throw away all that evidence of him. I don't trust him for 1 second that he got rid of all that stuff. The last time we saw that room, it was all dark around the edges. Lex is obsessed with knowledge, and maybe he believes that one day he'll find the answers regarding the cave. So I doubt he would get rid of it.
I just think it would be the best way to propel Lana's learning of the secret, because her not knowing is really holding the show back a lot now. It has to move forward, and there are still so many things they can do before the show ends and I would like to see them.
warriorrenegade
12-10-2006, 09:20 AM
I agree its holding it back. I just don't know if Lana finding the room would be a wise choice for her finding out. I feel a better way is her witnessing him using his power, same as Chloe did. Instead have Lana angry for a time, mad at Clark for thinking she couldn't handle or accepting that hes an alien. It would be more realistic if she had issues with his secret. Just don't gloss over it like in Wreckoning, were shes over it in the span of hours. Also have Lana confront Clark, don't keep the fact she knows a secret.

I agreewith the first part of your post.
However, in reckoning, Lana's relationship with Clark was completely different than it is now. For one, they were dating and didn't loathe each other. Now, Lana's bitter. It'll be a nice contrast to see how Lana handled everything in reckoning (very nicely and easily) versus how she's handle it now that her character's done a 180.

I agree with pretty much everything you said. I should have pointed out that I don't think her witnessing the room should be what reveals Clark's secret to her, but something that starts the process, and also something that shows her how secretive Lex is and why not telling Lex about how Clark knew Lex was going to get possessed was a good idea.
I think it would best happen when Nam-Ek & Aethyr return. She should witness them & be put in danger because of them. Then, having no other choice, Clark would have to save her while using his powers in front of her. This would make it be somewhat like it was in Spider-Man 2 when Spider-Man saved Harry from getting killed by Dr. Octavius' equipment that was being sucked into the ball of energy. Lana would hate Nam-Ek & Aethyr and then upon finding out that Clark is of the same race, displace her resentment of them onto him, but not in a way that is as negative. She would mostly be pissed that he never told her and halfway into season 7 (maybe sooner), she would finally realize that she couldn't handle it back then, mainly due to her association with Lex and her mindset.

That ending ranks up there with "Your secret is safe with me Kal-El" and the Covenant ending (which may be the best one due to the shock factor). I also liked the Commencement ending with the Superman type music and the imminent formation of the FOS. Arrival's ending with the formation of Milton Fine while Depeche Mode was playing also rocked.
This was probably the 2nd best closing scene with Lex (best one being in Onyx with Lex's expression after the devil's work was done).

Lex is not evil...
In fact Lex sees himself as quite the opposite.
Smallville Lex is the best representation of Lex Luthor PERIOD.
Lex Luthor doesn't hurt or kill people because he likes to hurt and kill people.
Lex Luthor kills and hurts people because it is a means to an end. Lex sees himself as the savior of the human race. People like Superman and other super-powered humans are a threat, and Lex sees himself as the only one willing and able to challenge their threat.
Lex is an anti-hero in every sense.
MidgardDragon

Even anti-heroes can be evil. Heck, I see someone who believes the ends justifies the means as the most evil of people. Just because Lex doesn't believe he's evil doesn't make him evil. He's evil, he does things for the wrong reason and ends up farking things up in every sense of the word, but sure, he does things for the right reasons....*most* of the time. And heck, seeing yourself as a "savior" of the human race without backing it up by being noble and honorable is another good reason for someone to be labelled as "evil."

Does any one remember when Oliver queen told Clark that he believed that the end does justify the means?:o

Yes, Lex, build your army of mutated, deranged beings. One day, Clark will quake in his primary-coloured outerwear.
When Lex closed that door to 33.1, I think it's safe to say that he's effectively closed whatever hopes others might have that Lex is still sitting on the fence. We've seen how he becomes "bad" -- now, let him be bad.
Let him strut his bad-ness ... he's got a year and a half to do so. Season 6 is -finally- the time we get a glimpse of his megalomaniacal future.

"Does any one remember when Oliver queen told Clark that he believed that the end does justify the means?"
Yes, but by that, Oliver means occassionally breaking a law or two, not actually killing people or experimenting on them against their will. So it's a different form of "ends justify the means". Another instance of this is Batman. He believes the ends justify the means TO A DEGREE. But he wouldn't do anything that would jeapordize lives and hurt people. Lex, on the other hand, does just that.

Kryptonian Boy,
Same with me! Hahaha. Everyday I watch the ending. I also like watching the scene with Lex and Clark. Hero Vs. Villain! YAY! I love those scenes.

...Lex Luthor kills and hurts people because it is a means to an end. Lex sees himself as the savior of the human race...
And so did Hitler. I could say "Hey, I want to help humanity...I just need to murder millions of people to achive my goal!" Now, do you think that statement would save me from being looked at as evil by most people, instead of just saying "I do it becuase I'm bad"...nope.
The point is that in all great wars and so on, everyone believes they are the good guys. People don't go around shooting eachother because they think they are evil, they do it because they think it's OK and/or the right thing to do. "Evil" is really just something to describe _others_ with, and if Lex Luthor would exist in real life then most people would almost certainly see him as evil.
EDIT: With that said, the ending was indeed extremely bad-ass. I was going to make a topic about it after I had seen the episode, but then I saw this topic. ^_^ Best smallville ending so far for me, and I too have watched just that part more than once

That was definately the best filler-ending we've seen on the show.
But I think I'm strange.... Most people around here moan about Smallville.....
I love it.... Every aspect of it, the whole spectrum of Superman's early years. Yeah Lana is crap.... But I still like her.
Even the crappy dialogue at times, I love it.

I thought the ending was pretty good. I wish they showed us some of the people in the cells though. That would make it a little more interesting.

The episode was good but the ended was TOO SICK. The song DEFINITELY made the scene awesome. I loved it. i really enjoyed the scenes with Jimmy, he had me laughing and i started to like him a bit more than I had been all season. Then I saw the Lex seen and forgot everything that happened before it. Loved it.

I now watch more serious stuff with serious acting. Standoff is one..... Smallville is too basic. It insults my intelligence.

I gotta say - that despite Lex's evilness he is still working in that "these people need to be helped" mentality.
But yeah that was a pretty creepy scene what with the hand reaching out and Lex just walking blithely through it all.

Why I answered no was that there were so many fragments that needed to be closed. Such as the kiss, her devotion to Davis. She did not tell anyone. Jimmy lied.Clark never found out! Howmshe went away with Davis. That little blurp, at the end when she was talking to Jimmy. provoking Davis!:\

I think the ending of this episode and also in the episode Onyx is the closest we have come to the Real Lex.. for me Lex turning point to evil was this moment.. not in descent.. but here where he kept innocent people in cages and walked out as they reached out to him for help.. the way MR played it was soooo classic.. how he walked out as they were reaching out for help and he just ignored it and left.. and then the door closes and we see the name.. even right up to homecoming i think this was one of Lex's evilest moments..
