when she first said money is power i thought thats it shes gone to the darkside but when she said she wanted to help people i felt that shes like vader he thought through the darkside he could help the one he loved lana thinks the same way she belives with this power she can acully help people not knowing her boy friend is using it for evil, i belive lana can come back to the light

All they're doing with this is proving that Lana is not evil. Lex wants to use his money to experiment on freaks so he can make more money, and Lana wants to help other people in need with the money. Seems fairly cut and dry to me.

I agree 100%! In fact, I did bust out laughing when she said that, just couldn't help myself. And the way Lex looked at her made it even funnier. Like he was asking...Do you know me at all??

I agree with you in the contradiction they were trying to show. Lana wants to use their power to do good in the world. Lex's methods are clearly not the ones Lana has in mind. I also thought the final scene was a nice one to follow Lana defending Lex to Clark.

I have to disagree with you in one aspect though. Lex does BELIEVE he's doing good in the world. He thinks Kryptonians and meteor freaks are a threat to society (and to some extent, he's even correct), and wants to do whatever he can at any cost to stop them. It's the "at any cost" that is the problem.

In a lot of continuity, that's actually the source of his frustration with Superman (later on of course). Lex thinks any one individual holding so much power is too dangerous to allow. Adult Lex Luthor is obviously, on top of that, insane, and though his goal might in some way be a pure one, his methods put him squarely in the evil category.

But to some extent Lex's goals and Superman's aren't too terribly different. It's the nuances, and the tremendous differences in how they go about achieving their goals, that is so different. Lex believes that the best possible future for humanity is one where he is the supreme ruler, so he tries to achieve that end. Superman thinks that the best way he can lead is by setting an example of the best in man. It's great.

There was only one point that I thought was particularly funny in the talk. When Lana says "Think of all the good we could do," the look on Lex's face seemed to say "Good. Ah, yes, all the good. That's, ah, precisely what I was going to say. Good, indeed."

I used to change channel whenever Lana was on screen, but now I find her character way too funny to do it. I'm actually looking forward to a Lana spin-off. She could make a drama at a drive-through if she wanted to.

Lana: "I asked for a cheeseburger and you gave me a regular burger? I trusted you!"
Guy: "Euh Ms., we don't have any cheese at the moment, sorry."
Lana: "I can't stand all the lies. You lied to me you told me I could get cheese with my burger!"

Awesome isn't it? No it's not me that's awesome. It's Lana. She's that awesome.

I actually liked the scene, and this is coming from someone who HATES Lexana. I considered Lana's interest in power for good more of a naive "foot in the door" of corruption. The saying "The road to Hell is paved with good intentions" sounds about right... Lana isn't the type of person to immediately jump into being evil, it's being done gradually so that if she is going to realistically do things that could be considered bad, she would have to actually believe that she is doing good as a results justify the means sort of thing.

I think they were paralleling Lana to Lex from past episodes.

What makes Lex such a great villian in Smallville is that he actually has deluded himself into believing that he is helping people. He thinks he's the hero of the story.

Lana is starting to do the same thing. Of course she's not evil...yet. But that last scene was very similar to Lexmas. Lex decides that money=power. In this episode Lana decides the same thing.

She thinks with money she can save the world. She's slowly starting to delude herself into thinking that she's on the right side.

She's slowly turning darker and darker. Maybe they'll redeem her in the end, maybe not. Only time will tell.

Although, I find it interesting that in the new interview with Al Gough he says that he's leaving it unknown to the audience whether or not Lana and Lex will end up together or Lana and Clark will end up together.

Well, we all know Clark does not end up with Lana. He ends up with Lois. So was this his roundabout way of saying that she does end up with Lex?

It's very possible, and I would love to see Lana marry Lex. Together, they could become the villains of the story. It would be a fantastic tragedy.

Plus, I don't think Lana's as goodie-goodie as some might think she is.

When she said money is power, I was imagining the darkside music playing in the background. That would be cool to see lex corrupt Lana.

That was an awesome scene. I don't know where TPTB are taking Lana's character but I do hope it's over to the dark side before her redemption begins. I am of course flummoxed with regards to the Clana in the previews. Lana is carrying Lex's child and is asking Clark whether her still loves her? WTF?! Looks like Clark will be the one to reject her. Also, I think it's Lex who tells Clark about Lana's pregnancy.

That was one minor part in the episode that I liked. Her statement was so naive, but evil at the same time.

It's a nice twist that Lex wants power to rule, but Lana wants power to help...

Just bear in mind that she realized the whole, "money = power" concept after being treated like a queen and spoiled to death. NOT when she was trying to help anyone.

ps...She is Lex's puppet.

i wonder what the writers are thinking.
hey lets make lana like money and power.
that is such an original idea. its never been done before.
i am sure hardcore superman fans would love hours and hours of lana and lex together.
What were the writers thinking?

They were thinking that Lana's corruption by Lex IS original within the SV/Superman universe. You simultaneously bash doing conventional things and bash not doing things conventionally. They were also thinking that not all SV fans are hardcore Superman fans.

That said, I do disapprove of Lexana, but if they had to do it, I'm glad they did it like this. It's actually starting to work a little bit, now that we can see where it's going.

Man....I really hope this Lana turning business doesn't distract viewers from LEX'S turn. I mean, I feel like I'm the only one who thought th eline "Money is power" was just another one of tptb's desperate attemps to try to make the Lana character more interesting. And what's worse is that it might've worked. bUT i DO NOT want, nor can tolerate Lex to be with Lana. Lana needs to go far away from Smallville or better yet..let her stay while Clark and Lex move to Metropolis. I will always stick to my theory that after SV Lana will have absolutely no place in the rivalry that is Superman and Lex Luthor. I mean, she did date Lex in Superman: The animated series but....Lex wasn't MADLY in love with her. Come on now...

Lana decides to start helping people because her wonderful little boyfriend can't clean up his own pathetic messes? And she says she isn't Lex's messenger. Why don't we just gouge Lana's eyes out and make her truly blind?

Oh, come on guys, it's not like that's surprising! What's surprising is Lana not saying it sooner! I mean if she is going to marry an evil genius mastermind, she might as well get something out of the deal in return! And money isn't so bad to start off with, and the sad fact is, she is right, money is power! At least she is smart enough to get that concept!

On a serious note though, I was reminded of the Season 1 episode "Hourglass" in that conversation, when Lex tells Cassandra, "I don't want to do good things. I want to do great things." I was hoping he'd tell that to Lana.

I thought she was only with Lex bcause he had power. You mean she had to fly to Amsterdam to see how money w/power works? i don't mind her line but i do mine that this late in their relationship after staying in the castle and knowing how big his connections are, she just has an epiphany like that one.
And just to defend her on her first project in Saving the World-well charity first starts at home.
