He's a (magnificent) bastard and putting on an act for the Kents. All of it.

Well, they definitely showed that he has his MB ways intact. The main question is will he use those ways to help or hurt? This episode portrayed him as a potential partner of Lex (something I pondered about in various posts of a Rage thread). I'm not sure how Lionel will end up, since anything could still happen. But I think that if he wanted to stop Lex from hurting people, he could easily have exposed Lex and had him imprisoned in solitary and not need to waste any other energy.

I think he really loves Martha, but he also is still evil.

I really hope he has an internal struggle between his love for Lex and wanting to be a family with him again vs. his desire to want to be with the Kents since he has never had a family like that. That would be cool, and I would like it if he gives up all his power to be with the Kents when he is in a position to pull the trigger, but stops himself from doing it.

Everything Lionel has done lately could still fall under the umbrella of a 'good Lionel'. Clearly, he is 'partnering' with Lex over Level 33.1 to be on the inside of any potential threat to Clark where he can keep an eye on things. As much as he may love his son and want to be close to him, he's smart enough to realize the son he raised is a threat to Clark's potential and even a danger to the world. ...Keep your enemies closer.

I think he wants to be part of the experiment to keep a track on Lex and let Clark know whats going on. I believe that Jorel changed him.

Yeah, I'm totally confused. In his scene with Chloe I'm like dejavu. He blcked all of those files and then he accuses her of acting like she was still in high school, when he was doing the same he was doing when he was in high school.
But maybe he was doing that to protect Chloe and get closer to Lex. I'm so confused. From episode to episode he's so different. Last episode he seemed so sincere and that thanks giving scene was sweet and in this he's back to the MB.

He acted a bit shady in this episode, but I don't think he's suddenly "evil" again. He's no saint, either. He wanted to protect his company, or maybe he feels he can use meteor freaks to combat the likes of Zod. Though I do miss the days where he was the villian, Pete was around, and everyone Clark will know as an adult aren't dropping in for a visit.

I am the first to admit I am was wrong.
I thought all lionel wanted was Martha.
I am wrong.
I did not know how much I missed the MB when he said, "Make me your full partner".

That is what is so confusing about this whole thing.
Either Lionell is evil and wants a cruel/great father and son relationship.
Or he is 'playing' Lex, when he really just wants to be the inside to know of a potential threat as soon as possible.
Could really go either way. My head is spinning with confusion!!!

Well, Lionel's not 'angelic' good. His MB-ness was 'tainted' by the spirit transfer and the possession by JorEl. Everything he does is to protect himself and then Clark. So he deletes the corporate files Chloe stole ( to help of course, but stealing none the less ) to protect HIS company at the expense of helping find Lex. Stuff like the necklace is minor. He could have obtained that necklace long ago as the true MB.

I think he loves Martha, and is genuine in wanting to get close to the Kent family. I believe he will keep Clark's secret
But still evil

Good to see him acting like his old evil self. I don't buy the previously-evil-but-now-good act. He might want to change but not enough to actually to go through with it fully IMO.

I voted for "My head hurts. I don't know what to think anymore." It's weird, one episode he acts good (Rage), and then the next he acts like a MB again (Static).

I liked that line where he said to Chloe she's not in highschool anymore after she called them freaks. I think there's a possibility it could relate to what she went through with Lionel when she was in highschool. Maybe that was his way of saying "This is round 2...I have upped my game, now let's see what you have".
Ooh I would love to see that. If Lex is too much of a lovesick punk to do what he should be doing, then let Lionel do it.

Last week, I would have sworn up and down that Lionel was completely reformed, but now, I really have no idea. However, I'm really hoping that the MBness is just an act to keep Lex in check because Lionel knows how dangerous he is and he really is a worthy friend of the Kents.
Because that would just be awesome.

I think Lionel is just being very protective of Luthorcorp, his legacy. I think he's using 33.1 to work his way into Lex's dealings so that he can keep an eye on Lex, as Lana would say, to protect him from himself. I think his conversation with Chloe was just saying BACK OFF.

i am not certain he wants to be partners with lex to keep lex in check.

^ Me too. If Lex is going all lovey-dovey then I want to see Lionel back to his evil, MBish ways. Doesn't make Lex look good though. :\

I guess he just didn't like Martha's cooking, and decided to turn.

I think that highschool line was basically his advice to her to stay out of it, unlike what she did back then.

He was never good in the first place. Besides the time Lionel was actually physically taken over it has all been a lie
