View Full Version : Did Clark Defy Gravity?

Hmm, before he jumped down he was suspended in the air for a fraction of a second ...
EDIT: He had to have been flying..come on even with superspeed you can't FORCE your body downwards (because of gravity) ..you have to IMPEL yourself and therefore FLY or glide..whichever you like..but I think that he DID fly, somehow..

Just like they didn't explain how he got to the West Coast, I suspect that he is flying or semi-flying at this point, they just don't show it. That whole "no tights-no flights" credo is just total B.S. It will actually hamper the show, if they can't move forward at a quick enough pace.

Umm, he ran, just like he does everywhere. We've seen him run further distances than from Kansas to the West Coast, why is him running unbelievable? :x

yea I assumed he ran like him and bart did when he went to florida, its nothin for him to run to the westcoast. But I did like the jump he made when he came down.Jus wish there was alil more to that scene
yeah that was awesome plus the whole static thing..there special effects budget was probably a lot in this episode although they could have used it more productively IMO

LOL, the TPTB are loving this right now, all of us hanging on that one nanosecond where he was suspended in air. They've got us by the pants and it's so obvious !

i like to think he did. but i bet they'll just chalk it up to him jumping out and then gliding.

Are you really this slow? It should go without saying that he ran, he doesn't know how to fly nor will he until he goes through with his training at the FOS. Take notes, there will be a quiz later.

agreed... it's time to fly Clark- it would've been a nice advantage against the zoner... so you wouldn't get completely OWNED.

He *did* get completely owned, didn't he? And I loved the line, "I'm not a phantom..."

I only have one thing to tell: Why Running when you have the ability to FLYYYYYY!!!!!!!!
...I don't know for you guys, but if I knew I was able to fly I would spent hours and days just to discover how! Come on Clarky! You can do it!! ...No flight/no tights rules is a total crap! ...except for the tights! :P I'd love to see him fly for once as himself and by himself.

Was a great jump, to me it looked like he was flying at least for a short time!

You're on the forum just like the rest of us =). I'm of the opinion that it was a jump with cool special effects. The producers will make a very big deal about it if/when Clark flies.

I'm pretty sure that was still running. I don't believe he ever left the ground. The camara certainly seemed to, but you could still see the zipping red line that was Clark in superspeed at ground level. Again, I'm pretty confident the show will make a big deal about it if Clark ever flies on SV.

I 'm sure you are all overacting. It was probably just an edit mistake. No biggie. Besides if they wanted to make Clark fly it would be longer than that. Anyways, why would they break the "no flights, No tights" rule now?

That was definitely flight. I think the "no flights" rule refers more to Clark flying upwards with the intent of getting somewhere to do something. In this scene he just wanted to get to the ground quicker.

THANK YOU.. at least someone agrees with me on that
EDIT: Like I mentioned in my post .. Your body can't go down that FAST because of the gravity on Earth... It has to be IMPELLED downward.

Thank you for thinking about the big picture. I've said it numerous times before, if/when he flies, it will be a big deal. Seriously, y'all PLEASE THINK for one second. They had a show for X-Ray eyes, laser eyes, hearing, sneezing, injury proof (series opener)....yet y'all seem to think that they wont give flying (Clark Kents/Superman's single most famous attribute) it's own episode. You honestly believe that? He has not flown as Clark Kent. I promise you, when he does....IT WILL HAVE IT'S VERY OWN EPISODE.

I agree when he flies we'll hear all about it,jus as we heard of Zod flyin in the premiere. It was a nice jump down tho,but no flight

When clark does start flyin he wont be Superman when he does coz he needs to master flying at different speeds n so on, but its doubtful that will happen

Who thinks that he DID fly or at least semi-fly?
jack1487

I think that he did fly because of the way he hovered coming out of the crane. One thing is that maybe he is just starting to fly and still does not know that he is doing so.
I feel that the TPTB may have started to give us a little bone here and there and when they want him to fly for real we will get a whole episode to do it in.

He thought about it (instead of just doing it), got performance anxiety, then the bottom fell out.;)

I think he was closer when he super-jumped onto that Nuke.... which you'd think would have brought some suspicion onto Clark.. but no one notices nuclear blasts anymore these days.

Its not That hard to REALIZE that if many of us here watched the epp and the scene and if most of us agreed he KINDA FLEW then so did TPTB. I mean think about it, TPTB did go over this epp in editing and you cant tell me NOT ONE person there said "GEE THIS DOESNT LOOK LIKE HE FLEW DID IT" ?????? they caught it if it wasnt written in that way... the writers know they are TEASING us with this nonsense...

That sure looked like flying to me. I think it's past time Clark just got on with it.

It definitely looked like flying. But until the show comes right out and has at LEAST an episode devoted to it, Clark can't fly. It was a huge deal when he flew as Kal-El after being brainwashed by Jor-El in the Season 4 premier. The show clearly made a big deal about it, having cut scenes of him flying throughout the episode. It will be just as big, if not a bigger, deal when/if he flies as Clark. It won't be something they just slip into an otherwise average episode like Static. He'll fly, he'll talk to his mother and/or Chloe about it, they'll have every character on the show making flying comments, Clark will tell Lois that he'll just "Fly by the seat of his pants," and Lois will say "No offense Smallville, but you're not the flying type." The episode will be called "Flight" or "Super" or something like that. Clark flying will be the 800 pound gorilla in the room. If/when it happens, it won't be debatable. You won't need a thread to discuss whether it happened or not. It will be definite.
Now, regarding the fact that this looked like he was doing a little flying, you're right, it did look like he was doing a little flying. It was just the effect they used though. Is it physically possible for Clark to propel himself downward without some sort of flying ability? No, of course not. But that doesn't mean he flew; it just means that they used a special effect that didn't make sense. I'm not using this as an opportunity to nail the special effects guys, because they're awesome on this show, but it wouldn't be the first time an effect or a Clark power didn't make total sense.
As much as most of us (myself included) would like to see Clark flying around, I'm afraid that this just wasn't it.

As someone else mentioned, he was falling with style; he definitely exhibited some type of control.
It reminds me of the really old Superman comics, where it started with him being a super-jumper, then eventually we starting seeing scenes where it looked as if he was blatantly gliding/landing in a flight stance, then to just outright flight. I think there's similar going on here.
Yes, he flew. He hovered for a second before propelling himself downward at a speed higher than he would've been able to if he would've just went with gravity. I don't know why people are making such a big deal out of it;he's flown at least two other times, personally I think it's more like 3 or 4.
