What did you think of Manhunter? How did he compare to the other Justice league member apperances? He only appears for a short time but discuss him here.

Anyone know who is playing Martian manhunter in this episode?

The interpretation of his character seems to be the most creative of all the JLA guests so far. Flash seemed ordinary, Aquaman just had a surfer look but the special effects of his powers were interesting, Cyborg was cool but they could have shown more bionics, Green Arrow's voice was cool but that tight leather looks a bit uncomfortable. I think the look they have for Martian Manhunter is very believable and i'm sure they will pull off his abilities well in comparison to Clark's. I doubt he'll be very green but i think their color choice for his skin will work well. Can't wait to see more.

The Martian Manhunter (J'onn J'onzz), alternately known as the Manhunter from Mars, is a comic book superhero appearing in DC Comics. He first appeared in the back-up story "The Strange Experiment of Dr. Erdel" in Detective Comics #225 (cover date: November, 1955), written by Joseph Samachson and illustrated by Joe Certa.

J'onzz is a native of the planet Mars who possesses abilities similar to those of Superman, including flight, heat vision (sometimes called "Martian Vision"), super-strength, and super-stamina. He also possesses the powers of invisibilty, telepathy and shapeshifting; related to shapeshifting is the power to alter his density or phase, thereby becoming intangible and able to pass through solid objects. His usual public appearance is of a tall, hairless, green-skinned humanoid with a pronounced brow. He is highly sensitive to fire; in some stories this weakness is a physical weakness, and in others it is purely psychological. Fire can affect him much as kryptonite does Superman, making him sick and weak, unable to use his various powers.

I hadn't read the pre-show hype, so I wasn't expecting the Martian Manhunter. As soon as I saw the Oreo, however, I KNEW it was him. Fantastic, totally fantastic. Now if only sombody would shoot all the freaking lawyers we could get Bruce Wayne there as well!

Yeah that was a pretty cool scene there. I can't wait until his next appearance - I think the K-site spoilers say Labyrinth! As for who played him, I'm not sure they even hired an actor - that could have been all CGI.

Oh, and I love his flying, but he should probably learn to be a little more subtle about it - people are going to start noticing bright red streaks in the sky! :p

Why does MM just take one bite and leave the cookie?? Littering is bad.

lol littering lol. he has a lot to learn in order to be a hero. maybe he left the cookies for clark to later make the connection

MM has what you might call an addiction to oreos.
At least a great infatuation with them.

Martian Manhunter although not that popular has the closet story to Supermans than anyone in the DCU. I am glad he is here....he knows what CK is going through!

He owned, I creamed in my pants when i saw it, ya know the little images made it seem cheap, but seeing it tonight was like WOW he is so badass looking.

The flying was even cooler then I thought it would be...as said we just need batman. Though Ollie's Green arrow is very similar to batman...cough cough....

Anyway it was the only part of the show I enjoyed.

If only they would have not wussed out and showed his true form in the last 5 minutes instead, I would have been "breathless"!

Best. Scene. Ever.

wraith808

Funny thing is he owned using nothing but powers that Clark already has... CK could have easily used his heat vision on Batista... or even super breath. But no... has to pull out the symbol and get the smack down...

Boy needs some serious tactics and strategy lessons...

In the Justice League animated series, his addiction to Choco/Oreo cookies is referenced in the Holiday special Comfort & Joy where he pretended to be Santa Claus for a young girl, coming down a chimney and snatching one of the familiar cookies so that she'll believe Santa had eaten them (and he clearly enjoyed eating it).

Well it didn't look like MM used Martian Vision on Batista. It looks more like he shifted his hand right through Batistas back. If you look there was a giant handprint.

I was a bit unclear on how MM killed Batista. And I didn't like how Clark was essentially a wuss who needed to be saved. Superman is the top dog of superheroes. I want to start seeing a bit more smarts and confidence out of Clark.

I wanted to see more of MM, and to be honest, I think this arguably was the worst episode in the series but this isn't the thread for that.

jimmyolsenblues

Clark is not ready to be top dog.
Clark is not ready for superpowered aliens.
I mean clark is not even catching regular human criminals yet.

ya its like ummm what you forgot you were kryptonian for a second lol.

also like someone in another thread stated that chloe in the loft could have been martian manhunter. thats why we saw the oreo and how she knew about the other heros in the world. and clark was acting strange maybe he was getting some mental vibe for manhunter or he could have always just felt like a loser that he isnt as powerful as he could be.

i dont know how he exactly killed him basically cause we didnt see it lol. maybe manhunter has laser fingers or something like fake kara at the end of season 3. ya i would have liked to seen clark use some of his other powers but maybe once he found out the crystal didnt work and he couldnt punch him he paniced. but i do want to see clark man up a bit. use his full stregnth not just the strength he uses on metor freaks.

i didnt think it was the worst episode it was better then wither. i do wish they did use clarks stuff as the sub plot tho. they could have made 2 episodes from this one. A plots and B plots take away alot from a show like this. like i said before the best part was martian manhunter. actually that 5 second part was the best of the whole series lol. maybe not the whole series but it was one of the top 5 moments.

How did he find out about KAL EL??? I mean why didn he save the poor humans???

Was he freed from the FOZ????

Where has he been all this time?? What is going on?

Okay, as a comic book aficionado, I had to say that the appearance of MM sucked along with the rest of this episode. Again, it ends with Lex and Lana and their misplaced relationship. Martian Manhunter only appears for like 10 seconds and then it is a red stripe. The oreos on the ground got more screen time to indicate MM. Batista was short lived and taken out way too quickly. Then was just a thrown together episode that really focused more on Lex and Lana, but the writers have to fit all the Phantom Zoners into the season so they squeezed this quick one in there. I really like Smallville but come on, they could do so much better.

im thinking either manhunter read clarks mind in order to know about him or martian manhunter knew clarks father and agreed to look after him. only not to interfer. maybe this time knowing clarks situation and stuff manhunter had no other choice cause if clark was dead he wouldnt come back cause the fortress probably isnt fully working.

i dont think he was ever in the phantom zone. he is a good guy so he wouldnt have been put there for being bad.

like i said before in a different post he may have always been those shooting stars that everyone assumed to be so other ship or something and everyone is like no its just a shooting star no need to look into it much. anyway wasnt there an episode a while back with a red shooting star? could that have been manhunter?

11-17-2006, 08:30 AM
Ok, so maybe Clark isn't ready to be top dog. WHY NOT?

6 years. It's time for the writers to stop holding Clark back.

They brought Clark to a certain point and then hit a wall. Clark hasn't developed nearly as much as he should have by this point.

If anything, Jonathan's death should have moved Clark to really get his butt in gear toward the path of being Superman.

Of course, I also think killing Jonathan was a HUGE mistake, and possibly a shark jumping moment.

I don't understand the fascination with martian hunter dude. I've seen all the SV episodes and his appearance drew a "who-da-f*** was that" from me. Did he come from the Phantom Zone? What is he doing on Earth?

How the heck am I suppose to take Smallville seriously (given the treatment from S1) when TPTB throw in all these superfluous dudes?

Seriously, when Zod inhabited Lex (of all people) the series has gone downhill ever since.
