but I am waiting to see Lex kill someone directly for other reasons then self-defense

Yeah, but he killed Nixon to save Mr. Kent. In this situation, it didn't seem as necessary. Lex could have just taken the knife anyway from Bronson.

However, Bronson did threaten Lana and the baby, which probably pissed Lex off, and gave him enough reason to kill the guy.

Lex would have been killed if he hadn't killed Bronson first... self-defense nonetheless.
